Preggatinis: Cocktails Even Mamas-to-Be Can Enjoy

Claire Barrett

One thing is for sure, you don’t have to be pregnant to enjoy a “Preggatini.” Natalie Bovis-Nelsen’s liquor-free creations — including the Cosmo-Not, Merry Berry Basil Mojito and Sparkling Sangria Cooler — neither taste non-alcoholic, nor disappoint. And, now, the drinks, which have sated celebrity moms and their guests alike are catalogued in Preggatinis: Mixology for the Mom-to-Be so you too can host a sophisticated baby shower!

“When I was writing the book, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani were pregnant. I created Preggatinis in their honor and those recipes are in the “Preggatini Party” (baby shower) chapter,” Natalie told us.

For the mom-to-be, this “bar book” contains 75 recipes made from 100% fresh or organic fruit juices, syrups and herbs. Not to mention the hard-to-tell-the-alcohol-was-removed Fre wines — a sampling of the Brut revealed it’s a dry and refreshing champagne alternative.

Recently the author fêted mom-to-twins Brooke Mueller Sheen, at a private baby shower in Los Angeles. The event was completely alcohol-free and even notorious party girl Paris Hilton and Brooke’s hubby Charlie Sheen enjoyed the drinks!

Next up for the mixologist is creating a signature Preggatini for the Bel Bambini store on L.A.’s Robertson Boulevard set to launch July 17.

Julia Ormond Laments Cartoon Violence

Tags: Parenting
INF

In the horror film Surveillance, Julia Ormond admittedly pushes the envelope — both in terms of subject matter, as well as in terms of her performance, a stark departure from the roles which made her famous. The film puts a humorous spin on violence; It is an approach bound to raise eyebrows, but one which Julia says is actually beneficial, for it makes viewers take stock of what they’re witnessing. “At the end of the day, when you step back, there is an extraordinary amount of violence in our consciousness that we just ignore,” the 44-year-old actress says.

“Look at kids’ movies. I have a five-year-old daughter and I look at a lot of them with her. Check out the number of cartoon animals that use force to get their point across rather than words. It’s penguins slapping each other, a cat throwing a mouse across the room — after a while you wonder how much of an impact it has on children.”

Still, the violence depicted on television and in movies is a far cry from the violence which befalls millions of children on a daily basis. Regarding her efforts with the United Nations to end human trafficking, Julia notes, “I’ve seen the results of some pretty horrific real-life violence.”

“And you do all you can, but you have to walk away from kids who are suffering. I’d take them all home with me if I could.”

Julia has been married to husband Jon Rubin since 1999; The couple have one child, 5-year-old Sophie.

Cash and Honor Warren: Brunch Buddies

MP/WG/Flynet

Honor Marie Warren, 1, enjoyed some cuddle time with dad Cash Warren as the pair — plus mom Jessica Alba (not pictured) — left Jack and Jill’s after brunch on Sunday.

We love her bright outfit and matching barrette!

Check out the family’s photo album here.

Prince Lionheart Click ‘n Go Stroller Accessory System: Switch Between Drinks and Snacks Easily

Need some accessories for your stroller? Check out Prince Lionheart’s Click ‘n Go Stroller Accessory System ($20). It includes two adjustable clips, one swivel cup holder, one snack cup, three bottle holders, a mesh carrying bag and 4 “S” hooks (for carrying shopping bags)! Just mount the two clips to your stroller and attach any Click ‘N Go accessory in or out as needed.

I really liked how all the accessories were interchangeable and simple to switch in and out. The cup holder was sturdy enough to handle any beverage I put in it. My daughter loved being able to snack when she wants (the lids slide open easily). The mesh carrying bag hangs off your stroller’s handles and is great for trips to the park/beach, when you run out of room in your stroller basket.

New Mom Candace Parker Returns to the Court

Candace Parker is headed back to the basketball court tonight after welcoming daughter Lailaa Nicole seven weeks ago. The LA Sparks’ forward recently rejoined her team for practices and admits that “it was great” to be playing again. “I was just really excited to practice so I treated it like a game almost because you miss it. I’ve been away from basketball for nine months, 10 months really, so it’s great to be back on the court.”

When she’s not preparing for her comeback, Candace has been soaking up time with her little girl.

“It’s been the best thing ever. My husband [NBA star Shelden Williams] and I really enjoy watching our daughter grow. It’s amazing how much they change in a short amount of time. She makes me smile every day.”

Making the end of her maternity leave easier is fellow teammate Lisa Leslie, who Candace has been going to for advice. Lisa, who is mom to two-year-old Lauren Jolie, knows what it is like to trying to get back on the court and juggle both basketball and motherhood. “We talk all the time about everything, the baby, nursing, nanny, travel, everything,” shared Lisa. “I feel honored to be a mentor to Candace. She has a great network of people around her like I did and that’s what helps you.”

Candace and the Sparks face off against the Phoenix Mercury this evening at 6:30.

Prince Lionheart The Complete Drying Station: Now Anti-Microbial!

Got bottles or sippy cups? Whichever way you clean/sterilize, you’re going to need to air dry them, and you might like Prince Lionheart’s The Complete Drying Station ($15). This drying organizer accommodates all sizes of bottles, cups, nipples, spoons, forks and cup parts. It also has accessory hooks for pacifiers, teethers and toys and an extra compartment for sippy cup valves/parts. It’s also treated with an EPA additive to inhibit the growth of microorganisms that can cause odors and mildew.

I liked the way The Complete Drying Station was set up — the organization was terrific. There was a place for all the bottle and cup parts that I needed to dry. I also liked that the flange on the bottom of the rack tilted down into my sink (giving even more drainage for the rack).

Denise Richards Says Daughters Think ‘Boys are Yucky’

Tags: Parenting
Albert Michael/Startraks

When it comes to looking out for daughters Sam, 5, and Lola Rose, 4, Denise Richards says that everything she needed to know, she learned from her dad; Irv Richards had a few tricks up his sleeve, however! “When we were teenagers, he used to tap our phones,” she quips to MomLogic. “He worked for the phone company, so he had all the equipment.”

While it’s unlikely that Denise will go that far, there isn’t much she won’t do to make sure that the girls are okay. “As a parent now, it’s harder to keep tabs on our children, but I will be vigilant,” she promises. From the sound of things — for now — she has little to worry about!

“They pretty much think boys are yucky.”

Although Denise continues to come under fire for allowing the girls to appear on her reality show Denise Richards: It’s Complicated, the criticism is unfounded, she says. “Everyone is so judgmental when it comes to raising kids: if you breastfeed or not, feed them only organic foods,” she laments. “The bottom line is, I’m not exploiting my children.” Noting that Lola and Sam are only on screen “for about a minute here and there,” Denise points out that “the show isn’t about them.” Instead, their participation is a good thing, she adds.

“I get to incorporate them into the show — which means I can take them to school as part of my job. How many single working moms can say that?”

Sam and Lola are Denise’s children with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.

Denise Richards: It’s Complicated airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. on E!
