George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth welcome baby girl Harper

Tags: It's a girl!

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and his wife, Ali Wentworth, welcomed their second daughter early this morning.  Harper Andrea Stephanopoulos was born at 2:42 a.m. today, and at 6 lbs. 9oz, 19 inches.  Her big sister, Elliott, was the same height and weight when she was born.

Three years ago, when Elliott was born, George and Ali had dined at the Austin Grill, a Mexican restaurant in Glover Park, DC, the night before Ali went into labor. Last night, George and Elliott dined there again and took a burrito home to the very pregnant Ali. She went into labor a few hours later.

It could be this one restaurant, or it could be Mexican food in general.  Have any of you or your friends gone into labor shortly after consuming Mexican food?

I will be serving Mexican food at my upcoming 30th bash.  If my friend Cathy, who is due the following week, has not yet given birth by the time, hopefully the Mexican cuisine will do the trick!

    I like that name.

  2. Ally Says:

I love the name Harper for a girl. Congrats to them, they seem really sweet together.

  3. Tiffany Says:

My sister in law had mexican food and went into labor too!

  4. Ashley Says:

I love the girls names! I’ve loved Elliot ever since I heard it for a girl on Scrubs. And Harper is very cute! Congrats to George and Ali!

I don’t know about spicy food, but a friend of mine says she went into labor with both her first and second child after drinking a glass of champaign earlier that day – the first time at the wedding reception of a friend, the second at the retirement reception of her father.

(I never saw her drink while pregnant apart from that first occasion – as I wasn’t at the second – but in any case: no need for you to go all freaking out on drinking alcohol while pregnant. Everyone knows one glass at one special occasion will not hurt.)

  6. Canita Says:

How funny! My mother went into labor with me after a night of Mexican food! She thought the labor was indigestion at first!

Harper is a fantastic name. Wonder if it’s from Harper Lee, the author of “To Kill a Mockingbird”??

  7. Rachel Says:

    Good for them!

Although, I’m not really into their style of naming. I just don’t understand why people want to give girls masculine names. Maybe it’s me??

Hope they have a happy life with their new daughter :)

  8. Lauren Says:

Congrats to them. Not really crazy for the choice of names for their daughters…seem more like boys names to me….just my opinion. :)

I have heard of several Mommies trying mexican food to get labor going. Has worked a couple times. :)

  9. Kim Says:

My mom went into labor after eating a bean burrito at “Bring Your Mother to Lunch Day” at my older sister’s elementary school. I arrived the next morning, 3 weeks early (although my sister also arrived 3 weeks early so it wasn’t a huge surprise… I’m sure they might have more accurate due date projections than in the 1970s and 1980s). I attended the same elementary school and the principal called me “the burrito baby” until he retired. Coincidentally, burritos have always been one of my favorite foods.
Oh, and as a native Californian living and working in DC, I’ve tried the Austin Grill… it isn’t as authentico as I might have liked. ;)

  10. Taryn Says:

That’s my middle name! I bet they named their baby after Taryn from the internet.

  11. Clare Says:

Nice names…but aren’t they boys names? At least they have gone with something more original :D

  12. Ashlee Says:

My friend went into labor a few hours after having Mexican food…there’s got to be something to that!

  13. Nancy Says:

We named our baby girl Elliott and a lot of people thought we were crazy. I’m happy to see there are other girl Elliott’s out there!
