Dave Grohl and wife welcome first child
Update: We’ve confirmed that the baby girl was born on Saturday, April 15th. She is in fact named Violet, after Dave’s maternal grandmother. People now reports that she’s named Violet Maye, weighed in at 6 lbs, 15 oz, and was 21 inches long. She was born at 4:35 pm at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Dad Dave says she’s "just perfect," and that he and Jordyn are "up to their ears in green sh*t."
April 18th:Jennifer at Baby Names has a friend in the know who reports that Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and his wife Jordyn welcomed their daughter "a few nights ago, and she’s adorable." They’ve apparently named her Violet – Dave previously revealed that it’s a family name. Anyone with more information, please email.

Congrats to them, but I’m not so fond of the name. At least not this time around. It was cute when Ben & Jen used it, but hey it’s their decision to make.

even though jen and ben already used it, i still think it’s a cute name…now if it’s Violet Ann Grohl that would just be weird!

I’m sure they’ll make wonderful parents and despite the rapid rise of Violet, I think it’s a lovely choice, on their part! Congratulations to them!

To be fair, if Violet is a family name, it was probably on their lists before it became popular. Some names I’ve loved for years have started popping up very frequently, and I’m sure I’m not the only one in that position. Granted, I think they’ve helped to start a trend, but I’d hesitate to label them followers.

Actually, in 2003 in Q magazine Dave said this “I’ve got some good family names. My grandmother’s maiden name is Bonebrake and her brother’s name was Harper. My other grandmother’s maiden name is Prince and her name is Violet. So, a boy would be Harper Bonebrake Grohl, and Violet Prince Grohl for a girl.”…so he had the name picked out before it started becoming popular.

Congrats to Dave and Jordyn – Violet’s a lovely name and I bet she’ll be a lovely little girl. In my opinion, it’s a good thing they stuck to their choice, no matter how other celebrities name their kids. And speaking of other celebrities, I also bet Violet and Camille will make good playmates.
