Yes the baby is pudgy....her little legs are big. However as many have said SHE IS A BABY. My daughter is 2 1/2 yrs old and only 24lbs. When she got sick earlier this yr it was serious because she was so tiny. My daughter is very active and has her dad's metabolism. I would much rather have her weigh a bit more.

Stats show that obesity....especial morbid obesity has genetic links. For that reason Carnie needs to be worried. I am sure she is aware of that. I am sure she worries about her child inhereting her wt issues. Healthy eating, an active lifestyle should be encouraged and hopefully if the little one has a wt issue later in life it will be manageable without resorting to surgery.

As for Carnie's wt gain. I am sure it just crept up on her. Wt gain can be so sneaky lol. I am more worried about her mental health. Food addiction, replaced by booze addiction.....to gain 70lbs during a pregnancy you have to consume a heck of a lot of food. Maybe she will go back under the knife and have the surgeons tighten up her bypass.

I am surprised she is considering another prgnancy without having lost a fair chunk of the weight she gained.

But give her credit she lost a lot of wt and looks beautiful. I am sure 200lbs is a lot healthier than 300lbs.

Iternity26, when did I ever voice that a "BABY needs to lose weight"?? You need to read more carefully. All I said was that I didn't think she should be that chubby at her age. Which means--she seems to have inherited some of Carnie's genes.

Research on obesity has found that "Overweight mothers are more likely to have overweight babies who become overweight children." I'm sure she's in the 99th or so percentile for weight. She is obviously not very mobile yet. They are holding her up in both pictures so she probably can't stand on her own.

I don't have anything against overweight people and their children. I just think Carnie & Rob have to be extremely vigilant with Lolas eating habits, i.e. eating healthfully NOT starving her, because she has inherited Carnie's genes.

If you get this heated from people voicing their opinions, maybe you should just stick to commenting on the posts and not other's comments.

Personally I think Lola's fine the way she is right now. She's really cute, just like Britney's son Sean.

When I mentioned cautiousness about possible future weight issues, I was think 10, 15+ years from now. More along the lines of TLC's show "Honey We're Killing The Kids" where they film families with overweight or undernourished kids who are seen chowing down on bags of Doritos while playing video games all of the time. (Then they even "predict" what the kids will "look like when they're 40," which is really crazy.) Most often the kids' parents (or even grandparents) are a bit overweight, so it's obvious how those kids ended up the way they are.

Somehow I doubt Carnie will let her family get like that, but still people can only do so much to possibly combat genetics.

Where have I judged anyone? I just started commenting on this blog yesterday. All I'm asking you to do is be a little more sensitive. She's 12 months old, for crying out loud! You're entitled to your opinion, but why on earth would you want to voice that you think a BABY needs to lose weight? Would you say that to Carnie's face if you met her on the street? I highly doubt it.

Oh please....

Just for the record I was well over 300 pounds when I had all of my children. I actually loose weight while pregnant.I still am overweight. I was SO SO SO scared that my children would be heavy that that I would actully lose sleep over it. I would purposly right out everything they ate and have the ped look at it.

At a year My oldest who was born at 7 pounds was a whopping 15 pounds. I was accused of starving her by a mom on a message board. I wondered if it was true because maybe I had a deep seeded issue to keep my kids from being fat. Well the ped assured me that she was taking in the right amount of calories and she would be fine. At 2 she weighed 20 pounds at 3 she was 24 pounds. At 4 she FINALLY began to grow. On her 4th birthday she weighed 28 pounds and on her 5th birthday she was 40!!!!! A mark I never thought we would see.

On the flip side my 2nd child who is only 18 month younger than my first was also born at 7 pounds even. At a year she was 25 pounds she outweiged her older sister. They shared diapers and clothes. I worried that I was overcompensating and thought I had a deep seeded reason for making her fat. The doctor once again assured me that everything was ok and that all babies are different. Well by 2 years old she was DOWN to 22 pounds and by 3 she was only at 24 pounds...she is 3 and a half and only 26 pounds right now. She is also under medical treatment for SID and her refusal to swallow food. We have to take her to occupational therapy twice a week because of it.

I know this is long winded but BOTH of my children were just kids and we weren't doing anything wrong. I'm sick of society telling everyone what a child should weigh or should look like. Maybe people don't think they do, but the comments on here are testements to how people feel about chubby kids...believe me I have heard more of my share comments regaurding my weight and I want to spare my children everything I can. But somethings, we have no control over.

Iternity26, no need to be so hostile. This is obviously a touchy subject for you. I was simply expressing my opinion by saying "I don't think" and "I believe" which, as an American citizen, I am entitled to do. Isn't that what people are continually doing on this blog-- commenting on other's children?? How can you say "But that doesn't make it okay for you to judge others and their children", when you are doing just that?

How is it correct to say that she "should have lost some of her baby fat by now" and "I don't think a 1 yr old should be that chubby"? No two babies are alike and unless pinkorangered is Lola's pediatrician, she has no room to say that. You may not realize it, but that is offensive. Good for you that your baby is skinny already. Feel blessed that you obviously have good genetics and have passed them onto your son. But that doesn't make it okay for you to judge others and their children.

As someone who struggles with weight, my doctor has flat out told me that weight issues are a combination of habits and genetics. So in my opinion, pinkorangered & Corriev are both correct.

I read the entire article that this comes from and in it, Carnie says she doesn't want her daughter to struggle with her weight like she has. She said she was going to be very careful about teaching Lola healthy habits and attitudes about weight. She also said she hasn't introduced refined sugar to Lola's diet yet. So with that being said, I think Carnie is doing all that she can do. Beyond that, it may come down to Lola's genetics?

Personally, when I read the article, I was more concerned with Carnie and her 70lb weight gain during her pregnancy. But again, like Carnie said, she has learned her lesson and next time she is pregnant again she will be more careful.

Corriev, As I stated in my post that you responding to---YES, I have a 9 month old child. He has already lost his baby fat because he is so active and I was very thin as a baby. I do believe some of it is genetics.

Lola is a cute little chunk - just look at those squishy baby legs! But, IMHO, I think she's the spitting image of her father and doesn't really look like Carnie at all. Maybe Wendy is just seeing something I'm not seeing and as babies get older, you can see their features emerging better. But, I think she looks like Rob right now.
