Introducing Bluebell Madonna Halliwell
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell welcomed her daughter on Sunday, May 14th, and has named the baby girl Bluebell Madonna. She weighed in at 5 lbs, 12 oz at birth. Geri, who will be raising the baby as a single parent, had previously mentioned that she would like to name the baby Stella if it was a girl. This is quite the change – her first and last names actually rhyme!
According to Geri, she chose the name because during the last weeks of her pregnancy, she saw bluebells everywhere during her walks in the park. Says Geri, "What clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it’s a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter." She also cites Scarlett as a later-in-her-pregnancy name choice, as Scarlett O’Hara is "her fictional heroine."
The middle name was chosen to reflect the baby’s dramatic entry into the world. When the doctor pulled her out of Geri’s c-section incision, Bluebell had both arms in the air and was screaming her head off, "as if announcing to the world, ‘I’m here!’"
Geri describes the c-section procedure as "Not painful, but you can feel it. [It feels] like [they're] rooting around in a handbag."
As a reader at another board points out, many Brit celebrities name their children after flowers – Popppy, Daisy, Rose, and Lily, to name a few. Perhaps Geri is just continuing the tradition!

Mom and Bluebell look great!
Hmmm … Stella is such a cute name, why switch to Bluebell? It must be for the rhyme. LoL!

How cute she is! Wonder if she’ll call her Blue or Belle for short, if at all?!;-) Either way…she is a beautiful baby, and her mama looks great. Comicbookchick, Stella is a cute name, but rather common these days, no? Maybe she wanted something a little “rarer”, as the article states.

Cute baby! Still what a name! Bluebell Halliwell has an interesting ring to it! lol!
And Madonna for a middle name? Knowing Geri I’d imagine that it came more from the singer than Jesus’ mother. Yeah I can definitely imagine Geri’s probably a Madonna fan to some degree. (And at least Geri’s old enough to remember Madonna’s early career from the mid-1980s, unlike BS…)

Good point, BP.

With a frilly name like Bluebell Madonna, one thing is virtually guaranteed; in 15 years’ time she’ll be a hardcore Goth!

Interesting name choice, but I don’t hate it! Baby Bluebell is beautiful! Congrats to Geri!

Not too crazy about the middle name, but I actually love Bluebell. I tend to like most flower names, but I think it’s really special that Geri chose a unique name that can actually be found in nature (well, as opposed to Pilot Inspektor or Audio Science
They both look great.

Bluebell is actually the name of a very popular ice cream brand in Texas, so the first thing I thought was “She named her daughter after ice cream? Man, I guess she must have really been craving it.” But then I remembered that Bluebell is definitely a Texas thing, maybe a Southern thing as well, and it was unlikely she named her after the ice cream. It is really good ice cream though.

I’m from the UK (currently living in the US), and while flower names may be quite common in England, the name Bluebell definitely is not.
I’m not sure if I like the name yet, but the story as to why she chose it is very cool…8)

Congrats to her. They both are beautiful!
I have to say though, that I really hate the name. Why, oh why, oh why do celebrities do that to their children?!

Oh I love the name Bluebell. I gave my daughter a flower name, carrying on a tradition that runs through the maternal side of my family.
