"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

Yay for big baby boys!!!!! I had a 10 lb. 3 ounce turkey myself!

  9. Campbell Says:

Mariska has been even MORE gorgeous during her pregnancy. It seems that the majority of women we’ve seen in the final weeks of their pregnancies appeared to most to be “huge”. I don’t really remember seeing any particular celeb what I would call huge. I’m sure that in person they would appear to be tho. I am 5′2 and my first child (20yrs,son) weighed 9′11. I had him vaginally and I could fill pages with info about THAT experience! I hope that Mariska isn’t feeling as tho she were run over by rush hour traffic!… I did for 4 long months! Congrats to her and her husband, and prayers for a speedy recovery and healthy, happy boy!

  10. Cherish Says:

Congrats to them!! I can’t wait to find out what they named him!

  11. Emily Says:

I am so glad she had him today and not tomorrow. Tomorrow is the anniversary of her mother’s death. Jayne Mansfield died in a car crash 39 years ago tomorrow.

ANYWAY. He IS a big boy. I can’t wait to find out what his name is.

  12. Karmellah Says:

  14. Lorus Says:

That’s great news! Can’t wait to hear the unique name they’ve been hinting at.
I agree that Mariska has looked just gorgeous while pregnant.

  15. melanie Says:

She is the only celeb who really needed a c-section and did not have one for cosmetic reasons here lately..Congrats to her, I just hope she has enough 6-9 months clothes to bring him home in..LOL..

  16. Rachel Says:

Congrats to Mariska and her family! I can’t wait to hear his name and see some pictures!

  27. Laura Says:

    THEY NAMED HIM AIDEN!!

    How cute

  28. Candice Says:

Laura, where did you find the name they chose? I can’t find it anywhere!

(I hope that doesn’t sound catty. I’m just curious!)

  29. Jennifer M Says:

Forget the other celebrity babies…THIS is the baby I have been waiting for. Anyone that doesn’t find Mariska’s joy contagious is crazy! :) She is so beautiful and just glows…can’t wait to see pictures of the gorgeous (and big) baby!

  30. Shauna Says:

I wouldnt believe anything about a name unless its been ‘officially’ posted either here, or her website or another reliable source. Unless Laura can name her source, I wouldnt believe it.

  31. Michelle Says:

YAY!! I have been waiting to hear this one!! I love her! I love watching SVU too! Congrats to them can’t wait to hear his name!

  32. Amy Says:

Congrats to Mariska and Peter! 10′9. That’s a big baby. I was 6′6, which makes me looks really tiny compared to him! Yeah, I would also like to know where you heard that they named him Aiden. It’s a cute name but I’m not believing it. Last rumor I heard was also proven to be wrong. (Stated that she had given birth last friday and baby weighted 6’something. 6′10 I think they claimed. They couldn’t remember where they had gotten in info) Anyways, much congrats to the happy family! Now all we need is pictures of this cutie!

  33. Tams Says:

I can’t wait to see any pics they release…and that is a big baby…my oldest cousin was 11′11 when he was born

  34. Lu Says:

That is a huge baby! I was convinced she would give birth earlier than her due date, actually. And I just knew he would be a big one. I never imagined that big though.

I can’t wait for information to come in regarding his name. And maybe a picture or two also. Guess we’ll find out when the announcement comes onto the blog.

  35. Jen Says:

I am so happy for them! I admire her so much and think she’s gonna be a great mom.

  36. GraceGirl06 Says:

Wow big baby! Congrats to them!!

  37. Anita Says:

Congrats to her! She is one of my favorite celebs. She seems so nice and down to earth!

  38. Amber Says:

Congrats to her!! She has my son beat by 2oz!! Yay for big babies. I hope she recovers well from her section.

  39. DancingMom Says:

    WOW! Thats a future linebacker!!

  40. Jane Says:

Whoa. Big boy! I wonder what they’ll name him – Something arty I heard. I love her on L&O: SVU, so I’ve been waiting to hear that she’s had the baby! :) I bet she and her hubby are happy!

  41. Ali Says:

I hope the Aiden rumor is false.. because Aiden is not artsy or unique at all. It’s on the top ten list now! Uber trendy.

  42. Aleah Says:

    COngratulations!!

  43. eabdeb8176 Says:

Personally I don’t think some celeb moms give birth by c sections for cosmetic reasons. It takes longer to recover from, and there is a higher risk. All the recent celeb moms I have heard of having their babies by c section had a vaild reason for doing so.

Anyway I don’t believe they named him Aiden, she was interviewed for a magazine and they quoted her as saying she was naming her son something unique/artsy/european and Aiden although a great name doesn’t fit that at all.

  44. Karen Says:

That is a huge baby. My brother worked on SVU and said she is a very nice person. As for celeb cosmetic c-sections. She needed one, Shiloh was breech so Angelina need one. As for anyone else currently I am not sure. But after two vaginal deliveries and one c-section why would anyone opt for surgery? Major surgery? I recovered so quickly from my first two deliveries and the c-section has changed my body forever. Three years later and I still do not feel right. Anyway best of luck to Mariska, Peter and their new son.

  45. Simone Says:

Well congratulations to the new parents, cant wait to see pictures :o )

I had to push out 10 lbs and a few oz myself she can be lucky she had a C-section ;o)

  46. Ali Says:

Just FYI: a 10-pound baby does not automatically mean you “need” a c-section. Thousands of women give birth to large babies vaginally every year. I wouldn’t say she needed it until you know the facts. For all we know she could have just requested one because the baby was big. To me, that’s not a “need” unless she tried to deliver vaginally and couldn’t.

  47. jashmom Says:

Glad to hear she FINALLY had her baby. Congrats to the proud parents!!! Can’t wait to hear what his name is and to see a picture. I bet he’s absolutely gorgeous!!!

  48. Fynn Says:

Other recent celebs who’ve had necessary C-sections include both Gwen and Angelina, whose babies both were breech.

And actually, I don’t necessarily think celebs have C-sections for “cosmetic” reasons–unless they’re getting tummy tucks at the same time (ouch). My babies were breech too, and while I’m grateful for the C-section option, it certainly didn’t do me any cosmetic favors :) .

Where I live in non-celebville, it seems like older moms have more of a chance of having a C-section for one reason or another. Perhaps the reason it seems like a number of celebrities have C-sections is because a number of them are over-30 or over-35 first-time moms.

  49. dave Says:

Do we really need to do these C-section battles again? There are other places to debate this.

  50. FC Says:

I’m so happy for Mariska and her husband Peter. I was wondering when the baby would get here. I’m glad she finally had her son. I can’t wait to see him! ♥ :)

  51. haylie Says:

thank you for the information surprised it isnt on her official site yet

  52. Paula Says:

I am so happy that the baby is here! That is so good. I hope they are all doing well.
I had a 10 lb 14 1/2 oz GIRL without a c-section. It’s nice when the first baby is big because then you don’t have to be as worried about “breaking them”.
Can’t wait to see a photo!

  53. Melissa Says:

I just read in People Magazine that the baby’s name is August.

  54. Lisa Says:

I love the name. I am so happy for them!

  55. giadana Says:

Congrats to her & hubby! Big babies are great for first time mothers.
My baby girl was 1 oz heavier & my doc said C-section.
Anyway, now I have a 13 year old daughter that’s 5 feet 10 inches. Big babies usually grow into big people.

  56. KittyTaurus Says:

Wow, I thought I was the only person who totally adored Mariska and couldn’t wait for her to give birth!! Emily, thanks so much for pointing out the anniversary of Mariska’s mother’s death coming so close to her son’s birth. I actually think it is in some way a nice symbol of the circle of life. I just posted something about Mariska & her son on my celeb astrology blog and gave credit to you and CBB for that insight and the birth time, respectively:

    http://media-darling.com/2006/06/mariska-hargitay-has-baby-boy.html

I wish her lots of happiness – she obviously has had to get through some dark times and she deserves to be as joyful as she appears to be!

  57. Molly Says:

    August. I love it. Perfect.

  58. Hilary Says:

I finally get to post something, yeah (great new comment system). I love the name. I thought they might go for a name like Romeo or Roman…

  59. brianna Says:

thats neat she named her baby august. I thought of that name about a year ago from a perfume and i thought it’d make a beautiful name, and low and behold someone has finally used it lol! I was thinking it’d be a good girl name, but the boy version is great. congrats to them!

  60. elle Says:

Congratulations to them! Nice name, too. I wonder what the middle name is.

  61. Stefani Says:

Love Mariska, but not too sure about the name August for a boy. It’s more of a girl name to me.

  62. Michelle Says:

Ah I was hoping she would name him something semi normal!! August for a boy? I think it is better used a girls name. I believe that is what Garth Brookes DD name is but I could be mistaken. Just a girly sounding name I still love her though :)

  63. kelly Says:

wow, big baby… :) Can’t wait to see pics!! I love her

  64. Stacey Says:

Maybe August because he was possibly conceived in August? :D

  65. yogadaisy Says:

Love the name August – it seems very masculine to me.

Also, I wanted to point out that Mariska went about a week past her due date so she was probably hoping to have her baby naturally (vaginally). I hope the cesarean wasn’t too hard on her physically and emotionally. Congratulations to her for growing such a big, healthy boy!!

  66. Lu Says:

    I searched August on babynames.com.

It said it IS a male name, it’s German and means revered and exalted.

It is a cute name. I thought it would have been Miklos, but I guess I was mistaken.

  67. Doreen Says:

Yeah!! Finally!!! :) I don’t know about the name, ‘August’ for a boy though.

  68. dolphin 47 Says:

August is a German name — Makes sense to me since her husband is German.

  69. Karmellah Says:

AUgust is cute. it could have been worse.

  70. Candice Says:

August, huh? That’s so Mariska. It’s very unique, but not really out there. I think it’s adorable.

  71. Kip Says:

August is a MALE German name.

  72. creamers Says:

Congratulations to Peter and Mariska on the birth of their new big baby boy August!! Can’t wait to see pictures!!

  73. Suzy Says:

My nephew is named August. We all call him Gus. He was born in 2003.

  74. Natalia Says:

That is going to be one gorgeous baby boy!! I’m so happy for Mariska and Peter.

  75. Punk_of_a_Tomboy Says:

August is a cool name….by the way i was 8′14 and 22 inches (and born a week and a half early) and i’m only 5′0 so big babies don’t always mean big people at least in sence of height….although my youngest brother was 9′5, he’s almost 7 and stands just under my shoulder.

  76. Jane Says:

Love the name! It’s so cute, and it is kinda arty!

  77. Shannon CBB contributor Says:

Love it! I think its nice without being unusual!!

August is also the middle name of Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix’s little boy, Indiana.

  78. say Says:

I love, LOVE the name August. It’s on my short list if I ever have a boy.

  79. Hoother Says:

I love the name August, for a boy or a girl.

August is a family name on my dad’s side. He was named August Martin, but as a kid they called him Martin cuz August was his grandpa. As he grew up he just stuck with Martin and turned it around to become his legal first name.

When my first child was born, a son, I decided to name him after my dad who had passed away six years earlier from leukemia. I used Martin for his first name and my husband’s middle name for our son’s middle name. While pregnant with our second child we decided if it was a girl, we’d name her August Ann, after my dad and then use my middle name for her middle name. I had another boy so we went with August for his middle name and we came up with McClain for his first name. We call him Mac though.

I love Mariska and I’m very happy for her and Peter and their big boy Gus. :)

  80. katherine Says:

Im so happy for mariska and peter, there son is big! My older sister weighed 12lbs 3oz while I weighed 2 lbs 3oz because i was born premature. Im glad her son is healthy its much better to see her have a big baby rather than a preemie. My parents wish that I was born bigger because i was tiny and given a 20% chance of survival a few hours after I was born because I kept going into cardia arrest. My little sister weighed seven pounds so if Mariska has another baby it might be a bit tinnier. Also I think it’s not true that bigger babies end up being taller people cause I am 14 and am 6feet tall after being born at 12 inches long.

  81. sexy_lil_me Says:

congrats i actually had my daughter on the 20th of may and named her mariska so yeah but congratulations to mariska and peter on their newest addition i can’t wait to see pictures of him

    With all my love
    Kelsey

  82. Jaclyn Says:

Congratulations :) The name is very artsy and definitely has a European spin, I had only every heard of it as a boys name. As for the c-section, I have a feeling that it was not a celebrity requested one ala Britney or Angie Harmon. She was week late & it was a big baby, lets not turn every c-section into a big debate. Yeah, many c-sections are unnecessary and are often a result of needless intervention, but come on – how great is it to hear about a happy couple having a truly desired child! I bet the baby is going to be gorgeous and I hope she enjoys motherhood. Yey :D !!!!!!

  83. heather Says:

I am so excited for Mariska and Peter. I too LOVE the name August and think that it fits perfectly. I just adore Mariska, she is one of a kind and I know she will make an excellent mother. The way she held those babies on the show and interacts with the kids, I just know she is so excited to finally be a mama and that little boy will be very much loved and adored, he is so lucky. Congratulations to the new proud parents of August Hermann. What a cute little family they have. I just wonder about a middle name??

  84. megan Says:

congrats i’m sure he will be just as cute as his father

  85. anjela Says:

OMG finialy she had the baby i have waited along time to find out things about the baby i admire the whole hargitay family and now one more to admire.LOL and the baby sounds so cute and he has a wonderful name and he sounds very healthy .*****

  86. anjela Says:

i am happy congrats mariska is so pretty and she was even prettier during her pregnant stage and that is not even easy for most celebs to pull off but for mariska she has that down pat real easy and thats what makes her so special.and i love the babies name it is so unique and special and thats what makes mariska and her baby even more special!!!!!!!!*************

  87. Lina Says:

Congratulations to Marisk and Peter! I am sure the baby is as beautiful as they are and will have and even better looking heart. What saddens me about this is the need in the announcement to comment that she looked big. I think that was unnecessary and catty. When will we women learn?

  88. RubyDo Says:

Many celebs opt forr the c-section as “not to stretch or injure their vagina’s.”

  89. RubyDo Says:

I don’t think Mariska obviously had a c-section for other than medical reasons, but many celebs do like the idea of scheduled birth before they go into labor, use of pain killing drugs, and not affecting their perfect tight vagina’s. The incision can be very small and very low – almost hidden my thongs or g-strings.

  90. Sarah CBB News Editor Says:

We’ve heard that the c-section was a combination of stalled labor and the baby just being big and stubborn. This was not a planned cesarean.

They are also apparently pronouncing the name Au-goost, rather than as the month.

  91. Carrie Jo Says:

I am such a big fan of Mariska’s. Very happy to hear that her baby is healthy. I knew a boy named August in highschool. Everyone called him Auggie. He was actually pretty small but managed to get on the varsity football team his freshman year. It was a very small school, but still…

  92. kimberly bell Says:

    WOW what a healthy baby!
