Gwen Stefani wears Kingston in a Rockin’ Baby Ring Sling
Update: The company tells us that since Monday night, they’ve had numerous orders and have since sold out! Hope you were able to get yours if you were trying!
Update: CBB reader JoJo tells us Gwen is wearing a Rockin’ Baby Ring Sling in Orange Zebra/Brown Flowers ($97) – she’s just got it on backwards! Thanks JoJo.

x17online has posted some great new snaps of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale at the flower shop before their trip to the Jolie-Pitts. Do any of our fellow babywearin’ mamas and nannies know what she’s wearing Kingston in? Danielle and I both babywear, yet neither of us can figure it out! Our best guess is a backwards ring sling – instead of the ring being over her shoulder and near her armpit, it’s in the center of her back. What do you think?
A great resource for mamas who want to babywear but want to make sure their positioning is safe is the Tummy2Tummy DVD ($25). It teaches you to wear four different types of baby carriers (pouches, ring slings, asian baby carriers, and wraps) correctly and safely, and is great if you want to wear your baby but are nervous about it – Danielle swore by this DVD when learning to wear Anya! Celebrity baby wearers Rachel Weisz and Kate Hudson could benefit from some instruction to tweak their carriers and make them safer for their babes. TheBabyWearer.com is also a fantastic resource and one that I use myself.
Gwen, always the fashionable mom, also dresses her son in Trumpette socks – in these photos, he’s wearing the Johnnies socks in navy, which are supposed to look like sneakers (pack of 6 assorted colors, $24). Last week, he wore the company’s Week of Dots socks (pack of 7 assorted colors, $24), both of which are available at BeanNewYork.com.

Definitely looks like some kind of ring sling. I bet she had it custom made.

Thanks for posting the info, Sarah! All parents can benefit from learning how to wear their babies safely AND comfortably.
I love the fabrics used for Gwen’s carrier but I think it’s not designed properly, or she’s not wearing it properly. She still looks hella HOT! Woo-hoo for her and her adorable baby boy!

She’s wearing a Rockin Baby Sling. I have one and LOVE it. It’s by far, the best sling I have ever worn!

Gwen looks gorgeous, and Kingston sure is a cutie. The leopard print skin, definitley matches Gwen’s style.

YAY! It makes me so happy to see more and more moms use slings and such.
July 4th, 2006 at 4:02 pm
Oooh so not only does Gwen have the same nursing bra as me she also has the same type of sling and socks! I swear she steals her style from me

Thanks for posting the link to purchase the sling! I’ve been looking for one and as soon as I saw the photo of Gwen I fell in love with this one.

It is nice to see her using a sling, but people who are just starting out with slinging their child need to be really careful because wearing one incorrectly, as Gwen is here, is extremely dangerous. I bought a beautiful sling from PSlingNY and they are very, very careful about making sure you are wearing it properly before sending you on your way.

Those are really cute!

paying 97 dollars for a sling is ridiculous. i bet she got that for free.
July 5th, 2006 at 10:39 pm
I’m sure she did! Most sling companies send out free ones if they can in the hopes the celeb will wear it.
Most baby carriers run $30-80, it seems. That one is on the more expensive side, definitely. Must be the silk!
July 5th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
I don’t think it’s ridiculous. These slings are quality and I wear mine every day. It’s reversible and so you’re pretty much getting 2 for the price of one, lol! Trust me, the material is awesome. It’s so much better than any other material I have ever seen on a sling.
I’m glad they sold out. I’m also glad I could let everyone know where her sling came from and how awesome they really are! I get asked about mine everytime I wear it in public.

I have a silk ring sling and a cotton one, and the silk is definitely much easier to get through the rings than the cotton! I have Zolos though, maybe I should try one of these also.

The material they use isn’t really silk. On their site it says “All of our slings and pouches are made out of cotton, breathable fabrics. The majority of them are made of either 100% cotton voile or 100% cotton poplin, the rest are either 100% cotton twill, 95% cotton / 5% stretch poplin, and linen / cotton blend. We pre-wash all of the fabrics before they are sewn, therefore you have no shrinkage or running.”
My pattern, which they don’t sell anymore, is made of a really nice blend and is super smooth. It doesn’t feel scratchy or rough at all like most plain cotton slings do. It is really easy to adjust and pull through the rings. Plus, it never slips or stretches so you don’t have to re-adjust it all the time. It’s warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Give it a try. I’m really picky because I use my slings so much and went through six different brands (talk about wasted money) before I found this one and I have never used another sling since. I talk these up because I’m such a fan and I’m so happy I found one I like. My almost 10 month old loves it too, although these days he seems to think the rings are chew toys!

Actually you don’t have to spend lots of money on a baby sling. I found these links which give patterns to sew your own slings
http://www.mammasmilk.com/pages/makeyourown.php
http://www.homeworksbest.net/art017.html
http://www.thebabywearer.com/lists/Sewing.htm
And these two patterns that require little sewing, if you have enough material.

Plus anyway, I’m sure that 99% of the women who wear their babies & young children in the rest of the world (esp. Third World Countries) don’t pay $94 for their baby’s sling.
July 6th, 2006 at 10:05 am
Yeah, I don’t see many women in third world countries paying that much either!
Last fall, a lot of women at thebabywearer.com found long scarves at Old Navy that they were able to tie up like a wrap or use like a pouch. I can’t sew, but I’d do that!
July 6th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
Yep most women around the world definitely have to improvise.
Your idea about the Old Navy scarves is great, as well as the one the women posted in the sleepingbaby.net link (above), where she just looped the material through a pair of rings a certain way and viola’ a sling!
You could probably find interesting materials at JoAnn Fabrics, etc., or even eBay to use for a sling, as well as Old Navy and so forth.

Why is $90 for a sling ridiculous if it’s something you use every day? I paid well over $200 for mine, which is a gorgeous linen, and I don’t regret it at all. I use it all the time. I don’t think I’d ever make one myself, I’m too worried about safety.

anyone know where to get the dresses she seems to wear in every photo you see her in now? and what nursing bras are you using?? i had a bravado but it is not soft..and she is also wearing a printed one in her photos..anyone knwo where to get it?
July 10th, 2006 at 8:17 pm
Not sure about the dresses, but her leopard print and red nursing bra is from Agent Provacteur. If you click on the “breastfeeding” category, a link to buy the bra comes up. It’s expensive though!
