Gillian Anderson expecting second child
Update: Gillian’s rep confirms the news to People. The father is her new boyfriend, Mark Griffiths, and the baby is due by the end of the year, making Gillian at least 4 1/2 months along, not three as previously reported.
Originally posted July 23rd: X Files star Gillian Anderson, 37, is three months pregnant, claims Britain’s Mail on Sunday, which features a photo of Gillian wearing a loose dress and apparently displaying a small bump. The article claims that Gillian has begun telling friends that she’s expecting now that she’s passed the 12 week mark. It is unclear who the new baby’s father is, as Gillian just split from her second husband in late April (around the time she became pregnant), but it is assumed that it is her new boyfriend Mark Griffiths, who recently moved into her home. Gillian has a daughter Piper, 11, from her first marriage.
A rep for Gillian would only say, "It is not our policy to comment on a client’s private life. We know, however, that you would like to congratulate her on her Emmy nomination for Bleak House and great continued professional success."

It is hard to tell. Her website has not been updated since the beginning of July, but she was talking 3-4 months ago about wanting another child and she talked to Chris Carter supposedly wondering when filming would begin for the next X-Files movie because she was not ready to go into that kind of film schedule while pregnant or with a newborn, again. I know she nursed Piper, so I am sure that is on her mind as well. With the second X-Files movie on hold due to some contract stuff between Carter and Fox execs, she definately has some time now to have that second baby. Hopefully she will find happiness with the new man in her life.

One other thing, Gillian is not 35, she is 37 and will turn 38 on August 9th of this year.

We do post photos, but only from certain photo agencies. It’s actually illegal to post most pics other blogs do (since they are not paid for), so we just link to them instead of posting the photos ourselves.

I guess now we know why she seperated from her husband in April. She was cheating and got pregnant. Oh well, my husband has her action figure and I love the X-Files so I wish her the best.

I’m sorry. I’m so tired of unmarried celebs getting pregnant and the world is supposed to think this is a wonderful miracle and the star is so deserving. She may be, but whatever happened to marriage first. Why do I come here? Good point.

Nymiranda – she’s been over here in the UK for a while now (permenantly??) She was in a Charles Dickens serial Bleak House and has been doing theatre.
I’m very excited there maybe be an x-files 2 movie. I used to be such an x-files geek!!

Hello! I’ve never posted on here before. Just wanted to say how pleased I am that Gillian Anderson expecting her second child. I’ve met Gillian a few times and she’s really nice, very grounded and natural and I think a bit reserved and embarrassed by her fame. She’s very good and very gracious with the fans though.
Anyway, I’m glad she’s expecting. She seems in the last year to have hit that really broody can’t-stop-thinking-about-babies stage a lot of women get to. She spoke in interviews about wanting more children. In a radio interview over here (UK) last October that she did, I think the previous item had been some theory about smaller women getting broodier…. I can’t honestly remember…. Something like that…. But anyway, she concurred and could not get through the interview without talking about breastfeeding and weaning. It was very funny.
Anyway, I just wanted to say, in light of Bethie’s comments about Gillian cheating on her husband and getting pregnant and that’s why they separated, that well for a start that’s just pure gossip and speculation based on absolutely nothing and is rather judgemental. Secondly, I don’t know why everyone thinks they split in April. What happened in April was that it wasn’t so much announced as it was confirmed through their lawyers in a very brief statement that they had separated as rumours had abounded in the UK since January/February that they had.
I recall Gillian and her first husband separating in October 1996, but no-one knowing until early 1997. She just doesn’t publicise her life.

One more thing, it’s a little intolerant and narrow-minded to think everyone ought to be pregnant in wed-lock. That’s not always the way it happens, it’s not always the way individuals want it to happen, and why should it be so? We all have different lives and beliefs, how boring if we all thought the same and how sad if we had things like this imposed upon us. Thankfully, most of us on here, I’d think, live in societies where that is not the case. But it’s still sad when we’re judged for not fitting into someone else’s ideal and idea of how things should be.

Marie, what a great first post!
I personally think she’s a good actress, and seems to be a nice person – And keeps her private life private (Nice in this age of MVT shows, ect.) So I’m glad that she’s having another child and I’m sure her daughter will be a great older sister, and a little helper.

I checked the link that Marie provided and interesting to see Gillian was smoking in May…considering she’s 4-1/2 months along then she must have known at that point that she was expecting. That’s just unacceptable, even if you have no problem with her other issues.

jessica bird – that interview was done in April, a month before it was printed. So for all we know she may not have known she was pregnant. I do know, from past interviews, that she stopped smoking once she found out she was expecting Piper and has gone through periods since then, some quite long I think, when she hasn’t smoked because she chose not to for whatever reason. She seems quite capable of not smoking so let’s not jump to conclusions.

Karen – I agree with you that everyone is entitled to their opinions. But sometimes some opinions effectively persecute others for appearing not to have the same ideas, values, beliefs, lifestyles, whatever. I personally hope to be married before I have a child, so, for myself, I agree with you and A there, too. But I’m not about to judge those who don’t think the same. If you don’t know the full story and if no-one’s committing a crime, then, generally speaking, I try to let myself let others be.

In my opinion, it would be great if people would allow celebs to live a private life. Some can’t wait to do the math so they can pass judgement. Miss Anderson dedicates much of her time and money to various charities as do many other celebs you love to gossip about. I wish her the best, for once and hope her man is willing to work his ass off to keep her happy and in love. From what I can tell, he’s one lucky B@$#*rd

Can people leave gillian anderson alone! She did say in tv guide, that she would love to have another child. So she is not married to Mark, well alot of people are not married. I just like to see the baby she will have. And love to know what she is having,and going to name the child. But why is no one saiding what Piper thinks about this new baby! I bet she happy for her mom and she has a new playdate to play with. Dose this mean Chris Carter will be God child to the new baby! well whatever happens wish her the best of luck, and alot of sleepless night. Well she said in her last newsletter she can’t sleep, but she has Mark and Piper to help her out. But what bugs me looking at the pictures of her at the emmys is, that her mother in the background or someone she knows from work. The one in the white shirt that you could buy the pictures on e-bay, with her posing pictures with.
