Introducing August Miklos Friedrich Hermann
Law and Order SVU’s Mariska Hargitay, Peter Hermann, and their new son August Miklos Friedrich are featured on and in this week’s TV Guide. August was born on June 28th, weighing in at 10lbs, 9 oz, and was 22 inches long. The first time parents did an interview with the magazine, and here are the highlights:
- Mariska thought for sure August would be early, because he was measuring so large. Alas, he was a full week late!
-Although she had hoped for a natural delivery, Mariska required a c-section. (Although she does not say why in the article, we were told it was a combination of the baby’s size and a stalled labor). Mariska says, "I’m not a fan of surgery…but I wanted a healthy baby."
- Mariska’s been waiting her whole life to be a mom – and when the moment arrived, she was overwhelmed. "When I first heard August’s cry, that’s when I lost it. You have so much love that you didn’t even know about."
- They chose all of their son’s name’s from family history – August has been a name in Peter’s family for over 200 years, Miklos is Mariska’s father’s given name, and Friedrich was the name of Peter’s paternal grandfather.
- The parents are using The Happiest Baby on the Block ($14) by Dr. Harvey Karp to help them with their newborn. Dr. Karp advises using the "5 S’s – swaddling, side/stomach position, shushing, swinging, and sucking – to help calm your baby.
-Mariska is breastfeeding, and recently started using an electric pump – which brought other things to mind! "I could not stop laughing because you see yourself in this new light. You feel like a dairy cow." So, she put a stuffed cow on top of the pump!
-Mariska will be attending the Emmy’s next month, but don’t expect a Heidi Klum style insta-slimdown for her. Instead, she’ll be "looking like a mom" she says, as August spits up on her leg! "It’s about being a present, conscious parent and nurturing a soul…It’s not about looking hot."

I am so glad we finally got to see pictures of him. I think he’s one of the cutest new celebrity babies. He looks like a baby turtle, I love it. He’s an adorable mixture of the two of them. I’m so happy for them!

I don’t think there is a single celebrity couple that looks quite as happy as Mariska and Peter. They are obviously totally in love with each other and with their ADORABLE son. What a beautiful boy… a perfect addition to such a beautiful family!

He is so cute, he looks just like his mommy. So cute to see a baby boy so little, looking just like his mom. She looks so happy, and she looks great for having a baby three weeks ago. I remember reading here, she wanted to get back into shape like other clebrity moms did. Well she looks great already.

he looks so tiny for a 10 lber. he is utterly gorgeous but how could he not be with gorgeous parents? I am just so thrilled for them. I know how badly mariska wanted this. *sigh* im so happy about this one.

He’s so cute! Is it just me or does he have Mariska’s eyes? Aww, and yeah he does look small for being a 10 pounder but i cant get over how cute he is!

What a sweet baby! Mariska and Peter’s full-on “life is good” smiles say it all. I love her comments on motherhood (LOL at the stuffed cow!) and I have to say that her husband is quite a fine-looking man!

That is one incredibly cute baby! The whole family is glowing. I love her realistic view of having a post-pregnancy body. I wish more celebs would embrace that type of attitude and not bow to the pressures of being super skinny so soon after birth.

I can’t say much that hasn’t already been said. He’s adorable, they look like such a nice, natural happy family, and I’m so happy for them because I’m sure Mariska has wanted to become a mom for so long.
To me, most newborns look plain and not really like people yet. August, to me, actually looks like a little person already, and he’s so handsome!
Also, I love his name. It’s a classic, family name, which I think is a great kind of name.

I am so absolutely happy for Mariska and Peter and their new son, who is absolutely gorgeous. I am such a big fan of hers
(and L & O : SVU)… she is a wonderful actress and seems like a wonderful person. I am only 23 but I completely understand that feeling of knowing that your life would not be complete without children in it. I also think that yes she and her family are the most beautiful family right now. The only thing I am concerned about it her usage of the side or stomach positioning… I know that lying a baby on its back it suggested b/c of the epidemic of SIDS, which scares the bejesus out of me. I do love her attitude on parenthood and losing her baby weight!

When I got the TV guide yesterday I was extatic to see who was on the cover! I love Mariska and was very happy to read the article and to see pictures of the new family. August is so cute and the parents are glowing with happiness. WTG TV Guide.
