Bindi Irwin presents Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award
Two months ago Steve Irwin promised his young daughter, Bindi, 8, that he would take her to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Sydney, Australia. Sadly, when Steve passed away last month noone expected Bindi to show. But she did. Along with her mother, Terri, Bindi walked the red carpet and presented the night’s top award.
Steve’s best mate and manager, John, said that Steve would have never considered going to the awards if it was not for "Bindi’s sake." John also added that "Bindi was so excited to be going to Sydney to the awards with her Daddy" but when Steve tragically died last month John asked Terri to consider taking Bindi, and together they did it in Steve’s honour.
Beginning this weekend you are able to purchase wristbands in honour of Steve Irwin, with proceeds going to Wildlife Warriors. Alternatively, you can make a donation at the site.

What a cute picture. Bindi seems to a be a really special little girl. It looks like Terri has lost some weight – I can’t imagine how hard it would be to lose my husband.

Her mother has really thrust this child into the limelight since the tragic death of her father. I hope she considers this child’s needs and that this MUST be a terribly confusing and difficult time for her child. Yes, she looks happy in all the photos but are they file photos or are they current photos?

What a adorable little mini Steve. I can’t believe how much she looks like him. On a positive note Steve was able to pass so much on career related to Bindi due to her being a little older when he passed away. That little girl is going to do wonderful things and carry on her fathers legend!

I’m so impressed with little Bindi. Her passion and eloquence far exceed her mere eight years! I think both parents did an exceedly wonderful job at raising an impressive little girl. Terri is obviously a very strong woman and Steve helped Bindi realize her dreams, become an outspoken advocate (I applaud him for helping her know she has a “voice” and for really listening to his child) and teaching her that she can make a difference. He left behind a tremendous legacy. I only wish little Bob had been able to know his father longer! The loss of Steve still makes me so sad every time I see a picture of him. But, all you have to do is look at Bindi and you can see Steve right there in her little face. And for the person who mentioned Bindi being “thrust” into the limelight…I lost my son when he was only in his twenties and his little girl was seven at the time. The MORE she could be involved in honoring her father (and there were so many opportunities, for he touched so many lives, was a tremendously accomplished young man and had started projects with my granddaughter that meant a lot to both of them) the happier she was. She was given the decision as to what degree and/or how much she participated in each event, remembrance project and memorial, so she made her own decisions and was at no time forced to do anything she didn’t want to do. I firmly believe it helped her in the grieving and healing processes. With that being said, Bindi comes across as a child who knows her own mind and is given the right to her own expressions. Terri does not come across as someone who is “using” her daughter to do her or anyone else’s job or for petty publicity. I think Bindi has enough of Steve in her that she knows how she feels and what she wants to do and will be given the opporunity to carry on, with guidance. Maybe more children would be like her (or be more well-adjusted) if their feelings and opinions were taken more seriously and validated by adults. Oh, and my daughters CHOSE to give eulogies at their brother’s funeral and they both said that it gave them the opportunity to honor their brother, share a part of him (that only THEY knew from their own perspective) with the world and helped them heal by being able to openly expression the genuine love and admiration they had for someone they loved and missed so much.

I’ve fallen in love with Bindi. I think she’s a sweet girl with a very big heart. It’s great to see her out and about, going on with her life, still honoring her dad. I’m sure her dad would be proud of her. I think she’s one brave little girl.

I don’t think she’s done anything that Bindi hasn’t asked to do. I am sure if she felt her child needed to be kept in isolation for awhile she would do so but this is a family that is moving on and trying to keep their dreams alive of preserving wildlife. Bindi has her own show and let me tell you she’s made for the spotlight. She’s beautiful and intelligent and I think Steve and Terri have done a beautiful job raising this little girl. I hope they contintue to keep steve’s spirit alive through the zoo and continue to educate us all on the animals.

I think it’s great how Bindi wants to carry on for her dad. She’s way beyond her age, what a smart and graceful little girl. Steve would be proud.
