Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe split
The parents of two of our favorite celebrity kids, Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Phillippe, have announced they are separating. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe released a statement this morning that they are splitting up. We don’t usually report splits but they are one of readers’ favorite celebrity parents and couple.
The statement said: "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Aww, that’s sad to hear. They were a really cute couple and they have two beautiful children. Hopefully they are just doing what’s best for themselves and for their family. I wish them the best of luck.

Hi, IMDB said that they’re not splitting up as couple but as filmpartners. They don’t want to do films together anymore.

I’m so sad about that. They were the most beautiful couple. I love Reese, she’s so smart and beautiful.. and so is Ryan. I hope it won’t affect the sweet kids in a bad way.

This is the saddest thing ever. I am here in California just bawling my eyes out. Hopefully some time apart will make them realize that they belong together forever and then they will get back together. This is as much a shock to me as if, say, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were to break up!

I’m shocked but upon further thought they were very young when they married and I think they wed due to her being pregnant and that’s not the best way to start a marriage. Sad for the children…

I agree, this is a major bummer. I’m not a huge fan of either of them as actors, but they seemed like sweet people and they clearly adore their kids. I thought if any young couple in Hollywood could defy the odds and make it work over the long haul, it would have been them.

I’m sorry to hear this but I’m not surprised. Rumors about the split have been circulating for months now. This just shows that appearences can be deceiving. Everyone always comments about how lovey dovey they looked in public. People also said the same thing right before Brad and Jen split, and Hilary and Chad, and Nick and Jessica and… I wish only the best for them and their children.

To me, this was very unexpected. They were my number one favourite celebrity couple…I still can’t believe it. And I agree with Nisha- to me this is worse than Jen and Brad splitting up. I always thought that they would make it and they have the cutest children. I wish them all the best and hopefully, they can work it out.

It’s always sad to hear about a separation or divorce; especially with children involved, but it’s not a surprise. Marriages in Hollywood are magnified 100 times more than marriages outside of the limelight. It’s probably worse when both parties involved are major celebrities. It’s unfortunate, but it’s all too commen in Tinseltown.

YogaDaisy I agree with you. Sad to say, but I’m not surprised they are breaking up at all. Nowadays more than half of couples end in divorce, but with celebrities it seems more like 90% of them end in divorce. Plus rumors were going around for a long time they were having problems, and usually what celebrity magazines write about, turn out to be true to an extent especially about break-ups. Plus to be a young couple, they lasted longer than I expected. I just saw pics of Resse shopping with Ava, Ava looks just like Reese. While Deacon looks just like Ryan.

Very sad news. They don’t strike me as a couple who operates in haste so I bet that they’ve thought long and hard about the implications that this split could have on their personal and professional lives.

I really don’t know if the divorce is too sad, for me when the love ends, is better for all if the couple split.
I prefer to hear that Reese and R. Philippe split, than to hear they are fighting for the children, that they hate each other, that he is betraying her, hurting, beating her.

I am very saddened by this…I really thought they would be long-married like Jimmy Stewart and his wife…oh well. I kinda thought something was up when all I ever saw was, photos of Reese with the kids alone or Ryan with the kids alone, rarely photographed together. How sad for Ava and Deacon.

I am not surprised in the least bit, they were never really romantic or all that into each other, I think it was all about the kids, Ryan always seems pissed and pretty miserable, I am surprised they lasted 7 whole years, I mean she was only 23 years old, they married quite young. It is sad though.

I ain’t surprised. In fact, I was wondering how they could pretend to be so loving & bla bla bla. When Ryan was filming Flag of Fathers in Iceland. They were talking about how he partied in Reykjavik. I am living in Iceland. I mean seriously.. a loving husband wouldn’t be partying like that. I’m going to have to agree with the 99% of other comments. This is very sad news and mostly because of the children. I don’t come from a divorced family, neither does my husband, but we’ve always talked about our friends who do and as adults, they’re still not over the parent’s divorce. I can’t imagine that Reese and Ryan haven’t tried everything to stay together, especially for their kids. I once saw an interview with Reese where she explained that “divorce” was not an option for her. She said she was brought up to “work at” “fight for”, etc. her marriage. It’s a sad situation. I hope they can work out their differances and stay together.

Emily, Heidi and Seal are also normal persons with normal problems (with fame and money). Heidi was previously married and divorced, she did not, obviously, give up on marriage and family. This has nothing to do with anything except two people needed a break and are separated. We’re all the same.

I don’t understand why people are surprised by it. It was very clear to me that they were not getting along but Reese kept it together though sheer determination. Rumors were circulating around for a long time–he probably couldn’t handle his wife’s success and she (though I respect her as an actress and a parent) seems controlling. They put on a good act but the cracks were long visible. Now she really killed his Oscar chances–I’m sure the Minivan majority will blame him, no matter what really happened in the marriage.

The rumor floating around is that Ryan had an affair with a waitress while filming in Vancouver. He maintained the relationship the whole time he was there. Reese found out and it was the last straw. This makes me so sad for the whole family.

A bit shocked, here, I did not see this coming, although I probably should have. They got married very young, they were almost never photographed together and they are, after all, only human, while the pressure on celebrity marriages is enormous.
Like another poster said: I prefer to see them split up over them fighting over the kids in the media, him hitting her or her hitting him and other stuff that happens all too often.

Yes Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been long and happily married but their respective relationships didn’t start out in the best of circumstances. Both Paul and Tom were married with children when they met, fell in love and had affairs with Joanne and Rita. Tom even talks about it in the last Esquire magazine interview he did.

I completely agree with you, Millie. It’s been a long time coming. Also, Reese is not the sweetie everyone makes her out to be. I have known someone on the set of Legally Blonde AND Walk the line and they were shocked at her behavior. She acted like she was to good for everyone/bitchy. I wasn’t shocked because I was just talking about it a couple of days before they split how in interviews all he ever talks about is missing his children. He never brings up Reese or missing her. Ever! Supposedly he had an affair with an actress on the set of one of his new movies and Reese busted him. I’m not going to judge because I don’t know the story or why he cheated. He shouldn’t have but if they were having such problems then you just don’t know. Things happen. People don’t need to be making him out to be a horrible person because of it and Reese a saint. If they don’t want to be together anymore, that’s fine! It happens everyday but one thing is for sure and that’s that Ryan is a great father and you can tell he is so in love with them. He was basically Mr.Mom their whole life until this point.
