Little Miss Diddys’ Pretty in Pink baby shower
Who puts an $88,000 R-class Mercedes Benz on their baby registry but thinks a $17,000 diamond-encrusted pacifier is outrageous? Sean "Diddy" Combs and his girlfriend Kim Porter of course! At Sunday’s "Little Miss Diddys’ Pretty in Pink" baby shower Diddy and Kim feted the mid-December arrival of their twin girls at the chic 230 Fifth in New York City.
Guests included Jay-Z (who gave them a changing table), Denzel Washington (who gifted them with a pink and white Ga Ga Designs chandelier), LL Cool J (who gave them two cream colored cribs), and socialite Denise Rich. Wonder who brought the Silver Cross Toy Rose doll carriage (pictured below) which retails for $995 at FAO Schwarz? The party included customized pink M&Ms, pink cocktails, and Perrier Jouet champagne in pink floral bottles. Unique block-shaped Partyblock invites (see below) were by Egba Originals. Earlier this week, we exclusively told you about other gifts the couple were going to receive including all pink Skip Hop, Inc. Pronto Mini Changer, the Toolbox, Dash, set of Saddlebags, ModernTots.com Moses Basket packed with Soft Animals, Imma Dress-up Doll, Dots Boudoir Pillow, Fuzzy Booties, Minkee Diaper Cover, Leather Bib AND a Maclaren Twin Techno stroller and Pause and Embrace Starter Kits from Beginning, Maclaren’s new line of holistic mother and baby personal care products. (I’d like to point out that Maclaren and Skip*Hop are two of the vendors participating in our 2006 Holiday Project- donating over $450 of their products to disadvantaged families at Good Shepher Family Services.)
Diddy said, "This is the greatest party I’ve ever had. I’m so excited to have girls, but I know I’m in trouble now!"
He also shared with guests how Kim broke the good news. "It wasn’t something that was planned. Kim and I were sitting down at Nobu and she had told me she was pregnant and I was happy. And she was like, ‘That’s not it.’ And I was like, ‘What else could you possibly tell me?’ And then she said she was having twins, and I was like, ‘Get outta here!’ Then she told me we were having two girls. My life just started changing right at that moment. God has truly blessed me to the fullest."
Something seems off about this story. Either he’s not telling the whole story – or maybe is exagerating for effect – or she waited at least 8 weeks to tell him she was expecting because that’s around the time you go for the first (external) ultrasound. I can’t imagine keeping that secret for so long. I told my husband the second he came home from work by showing him the pregnancy test. He knew right away and hugged me so tight!
About.com’s Pregnancy Guide Robin Elise Weiss tells us, "Perhaps Kim had an earlier ultrasound for a problem, like bleeding and therefore knew she was having twins earlier than 8 weeks. Because it is not standard to have an ultrasound at 8 weeks at the majority of practices without some issue. It may have been easier to keep the news from him if they were not living together or if he was away for an extended period of time. Since the new birth data for 2005 (released this week) says that 4 in 10 women are not married at the time of birth, this can actually play into the waiting to tell."
How long did you wait to tell your husband/partner that you were pregnant? How did you tell him?

She looks great.
He was told she was preg when she was far enough along to know she was having two girls? Weird.

yeah, I thought there was something off about that too when I read it. I think he was probably exagerrating! I wish I could see their registry. I love to see what people ask for.

i told my hubby the minute i knew!! maybe he said about the different times that she told him these things but chinese whispers has got in and its all melted into one. also maybe she waited to tell him because he was away? and she wanted to tell him in person?

Inelegant I know, but I told my husband when i was sitting on the toilet having just seen the 2 lines on the test! He hugged me as I sat there! I was just so excited I had to tell him straight away!

I thought the same thing. I can’t believe she was able to keep a twin pregnancy secret for that long. ODD.
While I think it’s lovely that their friends got together and showered them with gifts, I find it disturbing that someone of his wealth would register for a car. Seems a bit too greedy.
I really wish celebs would have showers like this where the gifts were given to charity. THAT would impress me. Not an expensive stroller.

Some doctors choose to do vaginal ultrasounds to accurately detect the due date based on measurements. I had one done at my first appointment when I was about 4 weeks along and found out I was pregnant with twins.

My husband and I had some trouble getting pregnant, so we were eager to find out as soon as we possibly could. Two days after a missed period I took the home pregnancy test and when it turned out positive, I ran to bed, woke up my husband and told him he was gonna be a daddy. We were ecstatic!
Why hold it in for so long when the news brings so much joy?!

I have never understood the whole baby shower thing! I live in the UK and feel it is unlucky to someone to buy you a gift for a baby that isnt born yet. I know that my friend is due to have a c-section on Monday and that she is having a girl but wont buy her anything until I know that both she and the baby are safe.
Does anyone else feel this way?

All three times we took the test together.
I agree that his story sounds untrue. It reminds me of when Julia Roberts was on Oprah and told the story of calling her mom on the phone to tell her she was pregnant, and that it was twins. She never admitted to IVF which would be the only way she would know that she was pregnant with twins that early on so that kind of gave away that her pregnancy was assisted.
Maybe Diddy’s wife had IVF, too?

That timeline does seem weird. My hubby knew as soon as the 2nd line on the pregnancy test showed up!
November 22nd, 2006 at 11:59 am
She could have gotten an ultrasound early for various reasons. I had my first one at 5 weeks because of extreme pain. (everything was ok) So, every situation is different.

My husband was told right after the preg. test came back positive! Now we are expecting a little girl…Peyton Elizabeth in March!

Congrats to them! When I found out I was pregnant, I told my husband right away! I can’t imagine waiting 8 weeks! I was so thrilled. I wish Kim and Diddy two beautiful, healthy babies!
November 22nd, 2006 at 12:11 pm
I always told my husband I was pregnant as soon as I found out. Well, the same day, I didn’t call him at work or anything. I waited until he got home and surprised him with the test and a card.

“Then she told me we were having two girls”. I think he means she found out later in the pregnancy and told him but his joys about the pregnancy just kept getting better. First it was she was pregnant, then twins, then later on it was girls.
I’d love to get an $88,000 Mercedes at a babyshower! I can’t imagine the Silvercross doll carriage would be very easy for little girls to push since there are no swivel wheels. It looks cute though.

And then she said she was having twins, and I was like, ‘Get outta here!’ … Then she told me we were having two girls. I think later, maybe, she told him because part of the statement seems to be left out.

qhen I found out I was pregnant with my first son I waited 3 weeks..with my second son I waited 3 days…I was going to wait and tell my boyfriend when we were with our families but I didn’t get that chance since he had to go into training to go to iraq..but he was thrilled and carries my two sons pic in his helmet…

I just found out that I was pregnant five days ago. My husband and I just started trying earlier this month and we certainly didn’t think it’d happen so quickly. As soon as I saw the little plus sign, I called him at work and asked if he was sitting down!
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:20 pm
I found out I was having twins at 5 weeks. I didn’t take a home test and was tested at the doctor (no IVF involved). Some doctors do a vaginal ultrsound which detects twins early on. So I broke the news that I was pregnant and having twins at the same time.
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:51 pm
Both times it was him who pestered me to take a test. I kept waiting and waiting thinking the minute I buy a test I’ll get my period. He pushed me to find out for sure so I had him waiting there with me until the lines showed up.

I told my husband right away every time I have been pregnant. I can’t keep it a secret.
Does anyone else feel all this gifting of such lavishly expensive stuff to celebrities who can afford anything a bit obscene?? I mean, a baby is to be celebrated, of course! But, when someone like Diddy is having a baby, or twins in this case, and can afford aything in the world that they want, WHY register and do it all the way most of us do?? I can see gifting the couple with things like unique baby clothing or a really beautiful diaper bag, or something personalized after the babies are born. But for LL Cool J to give them 2 cribs?? I am sure they can afford cribs. I don’t know, it just seems, for lack of a better word, obscene! Its like Ed Norton trying to convince the Academy to stop giving out those expensive gift baskets to celebs who host and give out awards at award shows. Seriously, they can afford to buy all that stuff themselves!
That said, congrats to Diddy and Kim! Hope the twins are healthy and happy!

I’m laughing because it looks like she will not be able to push that stroller comfortably at all! See how the tips of her fingers barely reach the handle even when she is slouching and bending one knee?
November 23rd, 2006 at 12:56 am
Michele,
I agree with you. It seems like bad luck to buy gifts for an un-born baby. Like, maybe it would jinx the pregnancy. Also, in the event (God forbid) there were complications, etc. with the delivery, the gifts could be inappropriate. On a related note: my husband and I haven’t been able to conceive, and yet my mom sent her “future grandchild” a gift last Christmas. She was trying to be nice, and probably thought we’d have a baby soon, but so far, no baby.
November 23rd, 2006 at 9:59 pm
I called my husband as soon as the shock wore off. I had told him about a month before I took the test that something wasn’t right with my body. He kept telling me to take the test but I didn’t do it until I was about 2 weeks late. I called him at work and he was SO ecstatic. He made me go to his work so he could touch my belly!
November 24th, 2006 at 12:43 am
I hope they really have girls. It’s hard to be certain of both genders when there are twins. Kim does look like she;s uncomfortable in the pic. The stroller seems to be too short for her to walk straight. Either that or she’s just trying to pose cutely.

I had a feeling I was pregnant on the day my period was due, did the test and sure enough it confirmed what I already felt.
Because we had just started trying I’d gotten carried away with excitement a week prior and bought a gift to tell my husband with – an African carving of a family together. So I quickly wrapped it and gave it to him. He had no idea what it meant! Then I gave him a card which said “Honey, I think I’m pregnant” and his first reaction was a very worried look followed by “Have you been throwing up??”
Of course he was overjoyed afterwards but I still had to laugh.
November 24th, 2006 at 3:53 pm
I’m surprised only a couple of people have mentioned the fact that there is something a little wrong with someone as wealthy as he, being given and even registering for all of that baby stuff. It’s offensive and both the gift givers and receivers should be embarrassed.
November 26th, 2006 at 7:54 pm
the story he told there is different from what he first said on one of his myspace (youtube) videos in which he said they were in bed one day and she looked big for how far along she was. therefore they made an obgyn appointment and found out that she was pregnant with twins. but whatever, no matter which way he found out, I wish for the health of his babies and a smooth delivery for Kim
November 29th, 2006 at 5:18 pm
I think people do things various ways for various and personal reasons and we should be understanding of that. As for the person who laughed at Kim pushing the stroller that small, did ya read where the stroller is called a DOLL stroller? Not only that, a full size Silver Cross would never sell for $995 (try $2K and up)
January 8th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
Uh, people? Read the article. That’s a DOLL carriage, not a baby carriage.

Hello? He said the pregnancy was UNEXPECTED!! She was probably just as surpised as him. If they were not activity TTC, they could have been as late as 3 or mos in (she women are used to irregular periods ro simply don’t monitor their flow) without noticing that she was pregnant. It’s not uncommon for women to be several months w/o realizing that they are pregnant.

I am pregnant with twins only 6 weeks. I know that it is twins because I knew I was pregnant, but was bleeding one day and went to the emergency room. I had a vaginal sonogram/ultrasound and that’s how I found out this early. Stop looking for a rumor to spread people. You should just be happy that they gave birth to two healthy babies. Congrats Kim and Diddy!
