Matt Lauer and wife welcome baby boy
Today show host Matt Lauer, 48, and his wife Annette, 40, welcomed their third child and second son this morning, November 28th, at 9:37am.
The baby boy was given the Dutch name Thijs (pronounced Tice). The name is shortened verison of Matthijs, which means Matthew in Dutch, therefore the name honors both parents. Thijs weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces and joins older siblings Jack, 5, and Romy, 3.

Congratulations to Matt, Annette, Jack, and Romy! I’m sure this little one will be as just as adorable as his big brother and sister

I actually sort of like that name, but I’m not sure I like the spelling (although that’s how it’s supposed to be spelled).

I like the way the name sounds, but it is a little odd looking when you see it spelled out.

I love the name, just unfortunate that he will be spelling his name a million times for the rest of his life. I will have to keep that name in mind if I have another boy…I would do Tyce or Tys, to make it a little easier. I love it.

That’s what we named our son! My wife and I are both of Dutch descent and we loved the name.
We were unsure of the spelling at first but every other way just doesn’t look right.
We liked it because it was unique. Well that’s no longer true. It’ll probably be in the top 10 next year. Atleast my son won’t have to worry as much about correcting people’s pronunciations and misspellings. =)

This happens to be the way it’s spelled. If you were to spell it differently it wouldn’t be a typical Dutch name..

That is our one-year-old son’s name too! We are Dutch and actually decided to spell it Tyce to make things easier for everyone. I would have loved to have spelled it Thys or Thijs in order for it to be a truly Dutch name but took the easy way out I guess. I have been surprised at the comments (not on this site but other places) saying how weird the name is. Everyone we have ever meet that have heard our son’s name think it’s very cool and unique! We love it.

That is my son’s name also! He is named after his grandfather who is from Holland. We spelled it Thys, to keep it dutch but not Thijs to confuse people too much. I love the name! I was so happy to hear that Matt Lauer named his son that also! I love the Today show!
