Gwen Stefani talks to USA Today about Kingston and wanting another baby

Gwen Stefani is promoting her new album, The Sweet Escape, so she’s on the press circuit.  She talked to USA Today about her son Kingston Rossdale, 6 months old, and wanting to have another baby.

About wanting another baby, she said, "I pray that I can have another baby.  I mean, it’s such a miracle to have one. And there’s so much I stillwant to do, because who knows? Things could be a lot harder a few yearsfrom now. I mean, I’m not at the beginning of my career. I’m on aticking clock. And I don’t want to miss anything."  Gwen is 37 and is well aware that women’s fertility starts to decrease at 35, and then again at 40.

She says that Kingston didn’t influence her The Sweet Escape, "I didn’t have any major direction. I don’t feellike having the baby really shaped my intentions; he was just thismagical thing that happened to me."  She says that she didn’t write much during her pregnancy because "I guess I was already creating toomuch — I was on creative overload, you know? So I watched TV and ate."

Kingston is already a seasoned traveller and professional.  She said, "There’s this huge team of us always hanging out together, sohe gets to see the same people every day.  And he’s this very cool,chilled-out little guy. He’s just like another person, except that he’ssuper-cute and super-entertaining."

And on losing her pregnancy weight, she said, "That was one of the hardest things for me. The pressure of, ‘OK, I need to get into shape so that I can put thisrecord out.’ If I didn’t have that pressure, I don’t think I would havegotten the baby weight off so quickly."

She’s also still nursing and that definitely helps take off the weight.  You can burn up to 500 calories a day while exclusively nursing.  Gwen believes in the power of breastfeeding- "I’m still nursing and I think it gives you superhuman powers."

By the way, when you put the Sweet Escape CD in your computer, you can download a special video of "What You Waiting For?" from the Harajuku Lovers Live DVD.

  1. K&M Says:

Actually, fertility starts to decline in our late 20’s, with a sharper drop at 35ish and another sharp drop at 40. Most women aren’t aware of that but its vital information if one wants to have children. Don’t assume that the slippery slope to infertility begins at 35, as its a bit earlier than that.

  2. Natalie S. Says:

I can’t help but be in favor of her personally. Without naming any names in the music industry, it’s just nice to see a singer balance, being a mother, wife and entertainer. She always appears to be hands on, I only say “appears” because what I’ve seen. I hope she and Gavin will/can have another one. A little girl would make a wonderful addition their family. Good luck Gwen!

I just adore Gwen. Everything she’s done has been handeled with such grace, and I agree with Natalie, she seems so hands-on! I have my fingers crossed for she and Gavin, I think everyone is rooting for them, I know I have been since the beginning :]. They deserve such happiness, and I hope they all (Gwen, Gavin and little Kingston!) find it.

  4. Sabby Says:

I am listening to the CD right now! Lol! I think Gwen is a great Mom and I hope she does have another baby. Gavin and Gwen make beautiful babies! I also love how she manages to make it all work.

  5. Campbell Says:

We are big Gwen fans in our home…. She is one super terrific advocate for breastfeeding. Here is a woman with a super packed life, and seems to be finding balance, and true joy and enthusiasm. Couldn’t you just see Gwen and Gavin with a little girl??!! That precious Kingston would be such an awesome big brother wether to a brother or sister. Loving Gwen!!!!!

  6. Nancy Says:

She sounds like a great mom. And Kingston sounds like a great baby (they’re not all so cooperative!)
