RUMOR: Ellen Pompeo expecting?
Update: Karen writes back to tell us that this posting has made quite the stir. She emailed the tips box this afternoon to tell us, "Cindy from Northwest Afternoon told her viewers today that she has been swamped with calls since the blog came out and she wants to make clear that Ellen is not pregnant." Although Karen and her husband both thought they heard Cindy say that Ellen "would be needing a real life doctor," Cindy cleared the rumor up on-air today and asked that whoever originally passed the rumor on to us let us know the truth. Thanks Karen!
Originally posted December 24th: CBB reader Karen writes in telling us that Seattle talk show Northwest Afternoon reported yesterday that Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy announced she is expecting her first child with her fiance Chris Ivery. However, no other news outlets have reported anything, and where Ellen supposedly announced this news was not mentioned. Time will tell!
Ellen also talked about the possibility of having children in the December issue of Allure magazine. Further assisting the rumors is the fact that she and Chris got engaged just last month.
What do you think, is Ellen expecting?

I always thought she said that she never wanted to have children. Hmmm could be possible though. If she is, then I wonder how they’ll write it into Grey’s Anatomy!!

Mabey! She is getting up there in age. So I wouldn’t wait as long as these celebrities! If you dont have to- Iwouldn’t take all these drugs just to make sure I get pregnant. If you can concieve a child I think it should come naturally, I dont feel you should be druged up! 26-33 is a great age for celebs to start!!! If she is best wishes to her!

I read a spoiler a while back that someone will be expecting this season in Grey’s Anatomy I wonder if it is going to be Meredith? I hope so…I think that would be a great plot!

If it’s true then she needs to gain some weight quickly. I’ve read rumours that she has anorexia and she does look awefully, if not even sickly thin.

Ellen gave a radio interview two months ago and when the interviewer asked whether a baby was in her future, Ellen replied, “I don’t know” and laughed. She went on to say that because of her 16-hour days on Grey’s she and Chris weren’t planning a child, but she also said, “If God wanted it, we would certainly find a way to make it work.” I personally really hope she is pregnant; I would love to see her with a little one (Meredith too! She’s my favorite on Grey’s).
By the way, what is Northwest Afternoon? A talk show? I’ve never heard of it.

I hope she is pregnant and it really isn’t unheard of for a 37-year-old to conceive a child naturally, so maybe she did. But whatever the situation, I’m happy for her and Chris, if this is true.

I read a spoiler not that long ago on a website that there would be a pregnancy on Grey’s. So maybe she is and the writers knew about it and started writing it in. Who know’s, if it’s true, good for her. I hope she has a healthy and uneventful pregnancy.

I totally DISAGREE with Lissy. Grey’s Anatomy is the best show on television. Ellen does a fantastic job as Meredith and I hope she is pregnant. She is a major part of what makes the show so fantastic!
They don’t care if you don’t watch.

I am 38 and did not purposely wait to have a child, I just have not had the opportunity. Life isn’t cut and dry, not everyone has the opportunity to have children between the ages of 26-33. Its a big world, lots of variables, maybe she did not have the opportunity to become preggers, previously.

I read an interview that Ellen did–I think it was TV Guide–where she was asked about her weight. She said she’s embarrassed about being so skinny and said there’s not a thing she can do to gain weight. She said she eats and eats, doesn’t gain a pound and has been this way all her life. She also said she sleeps a lot, that people would go look for her on the set of Grey’s Anatomy and she’d be asleep. Sounds like Ellen has a real fast metabolism which will slow down eventually. Anyone besides me remember this interview?
I’m happy for Ellen and Chris and hope she has an easy pregnancy and a healthy child. That’s what matters, not how Ellen looks or her weight.

Well If she is pregnant congrats to her!!! I have twins. I had my kids at 26. I was married at 23. I have a boy and a girl. they will be 2 in feburary. All I have to say is children are wonderful!!! I cant wait to have more. My kids are great, and for people who try to concieve and they cant. I do wish them the best. because when Skye and Dylan were born my life changed forever. And it was in a wonderful way. Im not saying everyone will be happy being a parent!! But it truly is a diffrent experience and it depends on how you take it. So im showing respect for not just moms but women also!

Yes Carol, you are exactly right. Ellen has felt self-conscious about her weight since she was young and has been picked on regarding her weight since she was young. She has been tested to rule out a disease as reason for her inability to gain weight and even has to eat extra calories to keep her weight as it is. I don’t understand why saying “She’s way too skinny for a baby” is any better than saying, “She’s way too fat for a baby.” I can’t imagine people here saying that without getting called out. People seem to think commenting on her weight is fine because she is “too thin” as opposed to “too fat.” Well, I’ve got news for you-making snide comments about a person’s inability to gain/keep weight on is not ok.

If she’s pregnant, good for her! Also, I completely sympathize with her about the weight issue. I’ve had two children and weigh less now than I did before having them. It’s in my genes. I eat frequently, but to no avail. Some people are just born that way and nothing they do helps.

Carol – they ALL say this exact same thing. Even Nicole Ritchie (until recently) said she wished she could gain weight (when we all know she’s skinny b/c of coke, etc). I don’t know Ellen personally, but I have followed her career and she has not always been this thin. she looked great until she started grey’s Anatomy. I actually agree with the other poster who said she’s be surprised if Ellen’s body was able to house a baby. I’d be shocked if she got her period regularly. I hope it’s true though – if she wants to be pregnant. She seems to have a very close relationship with her fiance.
As for the person who said people should have babies earlier – lots of celebrities feel a lot of pressure in their 30’s to get in as much work as possible, because once they hit 40, it gets harder to get work. Also, Ellen Pompeo wasn’t even with her fiance until 2 years ago, so maybe she/they weren’t ready. I’m not an Ellen Pompeo fan at all, but I think it’s really presumtuous to make judgements on when other people choose to have kids. We don’t know what’s going on in her life. Maybe she’s been trying for 10 years!

I completely agree with you, Lauren. Everyone just seems to think it’s ok to say, she’s too skinny, she needs to gain weight. But calling someone too fat and needing to lose it? Whoa, for some reason, that’s completely different.
I love, love, love Ellen Pompeo. She seems to be someone whose just naturally skinny and working crazy hours, to me. I hope she’s pregnant! It would be fun to see what Grey’s would do with that!!!

In some ways I agree with the idea of “why wait if the opportunity strikes sooner.” (Mainly b/c of the whole biological discovery that the opportune time to have kids is between the ages of 25 to 35, with the “best” supposedly being at age 27.)
However from my personal experience life doesn’t work out that way. (Mainly trying to get a career on track and changing it several times, The guy you’re attracted to not being mutually attracted to you in that way, etc.)
Anyway, if Ellen Pompeo is pregnant then good luck to her and I hope she has a healthy pregnancy.
(Speaking of skinny actresses, I recently read that Lara Flynn Boyle suddenly got married at age 36/37, so I wonder now what if she’s pregnant? Now Lara would be an interesting one to see pregnant, especially since she’s so thin otherwise! Her and Callista Flockhart both, as well as Ellen P.)

I’m gonna agree with those who said that they doubt she could get pregnant. My first thought was that she probably is not even having regular periods.
And whoever said she hasn’t always looked like this – yes, I’ve seen pics of her from years past and she looked to be a much more normal weight.

i soooo hope she is pregnant! She would make such a wonderful mom. But if merideth got pregnant on the show who would be the babies daddy? Because her and derick have brocken up on the show!!! (thats so sad) But if they make her pregnant, i hope that Mark Sloan is the dad on the show cuz they would make a very cute couple! But maybe she will get back with derick cuz some way, some how she always does! So i really hope that she is pregnant on the show and in real life and that she starts to date Mark Sloan on the show

Ellen is not that skinny and she is NOT anorexic. Don’t get me wrong, i really want to see Ellen Have a baby but Meredith is not ready for a baby yet, i was hopping in would be in season 6 at least that she got pregnat. but if she is, best of luck to her. and this wont make me stop watching GA and for all you people who are all like i hate ellen and i will not watch Ga if she is in it.. grow up!! no one cares if u dont like it!!!

she is so a great actres! in Grey’s Anatomy is she so great.
if she would have a baby that will be nice but I hope than so that she don’t stop in grey’s.
I think the change she will be pregnant is not so big because of her age
like she in the allure said: the clock is ticking.
