Happy birthday to us!
This year’s Golden Globes marked the third birthday of the Celebrity Baby Blog. On January 26, 2004, I started the Celebrity Baby Blog on my couch watching the award show. I was pointing out celebrity pregnancy and baby trivia to my husband (such as Marcia Gay Harden’s twins, Mary-Louise Parker who thanked her newborn son William -with ex Billy Crudup- for her nursing boobs). He suggested I share these useless factoids with other people so I grabbed my laptop (enabled with wi-fi internet access) and started this blog. (Check out my first post here.)
I had no idea "celebrity babies" would become so hot nor that my site would be read by over 1.5 million people every month, nor that it would inspire so many copycats. The look of the site has definitely changed (use the Way Back Machine to see this lovely orange or this green or this nicer pink and blue), as has the tone. I was definitely snarkier in the beginning, but now the site is more objective. In October, we added a Reviews section in order to become more of a resource to parents, who we discovered were the majority of our readers (60%).
In the beginning, the Celebrity Baby Blog was just me. Some longtime readers will remember Greenie from the Baby Names board, then Sarah joined, and then Greenie left. Now we have a whole staff that includes a News Editor (Sarah), a Reviews Editor (Teba), Senior Contributors (Shannon and Nisha), Contributors (Kaisa, Christina, Angela), Correspondents (Joanna, Char, Ameena, Joselyne, Katherine, Sarah T.), and a sales team (Federated Media, who sell the ads at the top of the page, and Gina and Kristen who sell ads to parent-owned businesses). On top of big sponsors like Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS, and Nike, we also have a whole host of wonderful regular sponsors like Zutano , Diapees & Wipees , Bebe Au Lait , L’ovedbaby, No Slippy Hair Clippy, Artistic Sensations, and more.
To celebrate, we are doing the First Annual Celebrity Baby Blog Awards sponsored by Skip-Hop and launching a redesign of the site. We are accepting nominations for the Celebrity Baby Blog Awards now through January 30th (so nominate your favorite celebrity moms, dads, babies, siblings, etc. now). Then around February 5th, we will open the Celebrity Baby Blog Awards for voting for approximately two weeks. Winners will be announced in early March. We hope to launch our redesign in early February.

I have been a fan for over a year now and this website is the first I visit each and every morning, with regular checks during the day. You guys do a really great job.

i don’t think they’re necessarily copycats as there have been many websites, forums, boards, and Yahoo! clubs (RIP) dedicated to celebrities’ kids in general or specific for a long time. the oldest one I think was for Madonna’s daughter Lourdes which opened in 1997. congrats either way
