"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta welcomes a second daughter

Tags: It's a girl!

CNN chief medical correspondent and neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta and his wife welcomed their second daughter in late January. She joins their 19 month old daughter, Sage Ayla.

Several readers have written in saying they heard his wife had triplets.  We know that she did not.  On his CNN blog, Sanjay clearly states "my wife delivered our second child. Up to the point of the delivery, wehad no idea whether the baby was a boy or a girl. She is definitely agirl. Very pretty, very mild mannered. Beautiful. We could not behappier."

We don’t know further details but he did say that they had a birth plan and that "everything went pretty much as we anticipated."

A birth plan is a written statement of your preferences for how you would like your labor, delivery and immediate aftercare to go. Of course, it doesn’t mean it will go according to your desires, but it gives the medical staff an idea of what you would like. Things that are often included are positions for pushing, no episiotomy versus episiotomy, cord cutting, where the baby goes at birth (e.g. you, your partner, the warmer), breastfeeding vs. formula feeding, and what happens with the placenta.  A birth plan is by no means necessary.  It is chiefly a tool for working out what you and your partner want and you should discuss everything with your obstetrician at your prenatal visits. Did you have a birth plan?  Did everything go as you hoped?

You wrote “A birth plan is by no means necessary.” I find that statement to be very wrong.

  2. P Dawn Says:

I did have a birth plan, but I ended up having to have an emergency C-section, so in the end, I didn’t end up following any of it. However, I delivered a beautiful and healthy baby girl, so yes, everything went as I had hoped as this was the most important thing, not how my labor and delivery went.

  3. Heidi Says:

I thought they were on a baby story or some other discovery channel show and she had had triplets? I could be wrong though.

  4. Heidi Says:

I found it on Google it does state that they had triplets. 2 boys and one girl.

I had a birth plan with my hospital birth that I had to fight to follow (most of it ended up being against their “policy” for how my labor went, but thank you EMTALA for the chance for the birth I wanted). I did NOT have a birth plan for my homebirth other than the loose one in my head, but my midwife was fine with whatever I wanted to do. So I didn’t need one there.

    Congrats on their new baby!

My husband and I prepared a birth plan for our son’s arrival in July of 2006. We wrote it with the help of our Bradley Childbirth instructor, after reading other birth plans. We covered all bases, even if I had to have an unplanned c-section.

Everything went smoothly and followed what we had requested in the plan. Because we’d already discussed it all and had our midwife sign off on it, we didn’t even have to pull it out during my labor and delivery. Not even for the nurses because I delivered in an ABC room that’s part of the hospital where they are accustomed to and encourage natural childbirth. I delivered our son completely naturally with the help of my midwife and surrounded by my husband, mother and two sisters.

I think it’s a great tool to help everyone involved understand what everyone’s goals are and get everyone on the same page. Though it might not follow exactly, it is a helpful guide.

About them being on a “Baby Story” on TLC. I watched that, I can’t remember if it was triplets, but they said it was Sanjay Gupta from television. I sat there and couldn’t really believe it because the guy didn’t really look like Sanjay. He also had such a thick accent that they had to put subtitles in a couple of times so that people could understand what he said.

I know people are different when on a newscast on CNN, than at the hospital having a baby, but I think they were imposters.
