Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain to be a dad
Chef Anthony Bourdain, 50, author/novelist, host of the Travel Channel’s No Reservations and former executive chef at NYC’s Les Halles, is expecting his first child, a girl, in April with his Italian girlfriend.
Tony’s very excited to be a dad. He said,
I’m absolutely thrilled and taking it very seriously. I’m thrilled, delighted, excited and just dancing on the ceiling.
As the kind of dad he thinks he’ll be, he said,
Maybe I’m being a bit naive, but I always loved the idea of raising a little wild child. You know, somebody who grew up playing with Vietnamese kids and Indonesian kids. I love the idea of a kid who grows up speaking both Italian and English and maybe a little Bahasa. You know, a street smart, tough little ragamuffin with sunburned hair who suddenly shows up in the American school system with kung fu skills and multiple languages.
My husband (who writes the excellent food blog The Food Section) told me about Anthony’s recent diatribe against Food Network chefs. It’s typical Bourdain. Do not read if you love Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee! I am a big fan of his, having read most of his books including Bone in the Throat, Gone Bamboo, Bobby Gold, Kitchen Confidential and Typhoid Mary. Also, my dad has done woodwork for his mom and I’ve gotten signed copies of his books.

great news.. I like him a lot.. his comments on the blog made me laugh out loud. Love him more for hating Rachel Ray. I can’t stand her either.

I’m really happy for him. I’m a big fan of his, and currently reading “A Cook’s Tour” right now, and very much enjoying it. I just hope having a baby make him quit smoking, and perhaps learn to rollerskate (see LA episode of No Reservation).

You posted it! Cool! I am so excitied for him. I bet his daughter is going to wrap him around her finger. It’s the tough guys who turn to mush around little girls.

I have recently become an avid follow of Chef Bourdain! I’ll be interested to see him juggle his exciting career and the joys/woes of fatherhood!

I thought he was married forever, like twenty-something years. Guessing – being on the road for his series put a strain on his marriage. Whatever is good for him is fine with me.

Bourdain said in an interview somewhere that one of the costs of running around the world was his marriage.

Bourdain just had his baby girl – I’m still trying to get her name and DOB, though.
Yes, we posted it over the weekend.

I love Anthony Bourdain. He’s like a person who loves the world and the foods that the real people of the world love. He eats street food. Who hasn’t done that when they were kids and then we grow up. I met him at a book signing in Chicago an he was a doll. Even took a picture with me. Hope he’s real happy. I can barely wait till he introduces the baby to his audience.
