Why does everyone pick on Liz Hurley’s son Damian?
You might not be aware of this because we try not to publish negative comments but it seems like whenever we post a photo of Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian Charles Hurley, almost 5, people say they’re creeped out by him.And now Perez Hilton is in on it!
Is it because of his name or how he looks? According to The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide By America’s Baby-Naming Experts, Damian, which in Greek means to tame or subdue, is a well-used upper-class name in England and is gaining popularity in the United States. In 2005, Damian spelled with an A was the 156th most popular name in the US. (Damien with an E was 199th most popular name.)
Baby Name Bible co-author Linda Rosencrantz tells us, "Damian began to get popular in the UK in the mid-1970s. Yes, around the time of The Omen and Alien. It reached #46 on their list in 1975, but wasn’t even in the Top 100 in 2006. A satirical book, You Called Your Baby WHAT?, put out by one of the British tabloids accentuates the negative with the comment ‘A name guaranteed to cause horrible deaths and scare baboons.’"

My husband and I really like the name Damian and thought of using it for our son someday. I don’t see why people have so much trouble with it.

I am not a fan of Perez Hilton and I think that site causes a lot of rumours and is just plain nasty. As for Damian, I think he is a cute boy but there was so much controversy over his paternity which caused a lot of people to dislike his father for disowning him. And, to top it off, he’s the spitting image of his dad. Maybe people are taking their feelings about his father out on poor Damian. For goodness sake, he’s just a little boy. Give him a break.

I think he looks kind of creepy, but he also doesn’t look very happy in the picture. Maybe it’s just a bad picture. The name thing doesn’t bother me, that’s just silly. Look, he is little now so I won’t make fun of him because I know one day he will grow up and be rich and handsome! LOL

When we were expecting my son, we LOVED the name Damien but we chose not to name him that because we got such a horrible reaction from people. I think it’s so cool, different and masculine. But, we wanted to spare him years of abuse from his peers!

It’s obvious from the pics we normally see of him that he doesn’t like the paps; and I can’t say I blame him. I bet these “people who are creeped out” would think very differently if they saw some family photos….ones where he’s smiling and playing.

I think it’s rude to insult the child (then again, I find Perez Hilton to be extremely rude with everyone but himself), especially since Damian is not creepy-looking, neither is Damien from The Omen. I think Damian has beautiful eyes but the haircut is not very flattering. But he’s a kid, he’ll grow up, his looks will change. It’s very low to insult a child.

I wouldn’t take anything Perez Hilton says – he is very snarky. That’s his thing. I actually look at his website often and know that you have to take some of his stuff with a grain of salt. He can be quite mean – I personally think you should leave celebrity’s children alone as well as people that are having breakdowns (ie. britney) and dead (anna nicole). But his scruples are a little low.

When my nephew was born, after much debate they named him Damon. I didn’t like the name because it was too close to Damian and to this day people tend to call him Damian instead of Damon which bugs me to no end. But we grew to be fine with it and I can’t picture him as anything else. People just have too much time on their hands to analyze everything into something horrific.

He does look a bit like the young actor from ‘The Omen’. But I thought his (Liz’ son’s) name was Damian (with an ‘a’), not Damien like the movie character? It is quite a coincidence but Damian/Damien isn’t such an unusual name. My brother has a work colleague whose five year old son is called Damian…

I think he looks like his father, but – unlike his dad – really adorable.
Anyway, what kind of “adult” picks on a little kid? People really need to grow up. And if people like that are trying to post here, I’d personally like to have them all banned. People who would pick on a little kid, call him creepy, etc., have no place on a site like this!

I had always associated the name Damian with thugs and bullies.
The negative comments could be more of a reaction to his parents not necessarily the boy himself. I remember seeing pictures of him as a baby and he had Steve Bings snarl already!
Other than that he’s a cutie.

Aww, I think that little Damian is adorable! He very much reminds me of lil’ Suri Cruise – their dark features are very much alike. And whats wrong with him looking like Damien from the Omen – that kid is a cutie!
