I’m a protective mother and would definitely dress my little one in one of these.

To everyone who’s spoken about paedophiles- that’s not really what I was talking about in my earlier post. I was thinking about what I personally think is generally appropriate for little children to wear, regardless of whether there are any sickos lurking on the beach. I just think a bikini is an adult clothing product and- as other people have said- looks silly on little girls. I wouldn’t put my child in a floor-length ballgown either.

I personally don’t like seeing these little girls wearing bikinis. It’s just weird. In many popular clothing stores, they make the teenager fasions in smaller sizes for the elementary-schoolers, including way-too-short skirts. There is a company online, Wholesome Wear who makes modest swimwear. While their designs seem really bulky for swimming, I’m sure there are many young women who would rather feel more covered up in public.

I hate to bring up a semi-obvious point, but little girls aren’t the only children predators look at-they also look at little boys, who have their entire upper bodies exposed when wearing swimwear. But nobody ever says anything about whether they are too exposed. I agree that some companies make bathing suits for children that are far too revealing (the bikinis Cindy Crawford’s daughter was photographed wearing a few months ago were absolutely inappropriate for a 5-year-old), but this one on Zahara is adorable and completely appropriate for a girl her age. And I’m usually one of the most conservative people on this site!
Think about it this way: would you rather see your 2-year-old in a bikini or your 12-year-old? I’d be far more worried about predators regarding the latter.

I’m from the south of Europe and I don’t understand what’s inappropriate? The child is wearing a two piece! Big deal! When I was a kid I wore bikinis and most of the time only the bottoms! How can a bikini be over sexual? It covers up the private parts. Imo she could still go to the beach with her bottoms on (and a lot of the time here, you see children wearing nothing).

So I have a question. For those of you who are parents to girls, what do you suggest girls at that age wear to go to the beach? Bathing suits? Because they cover up their stomachs? They aren’t sexual organs… The sexual organs are covered in bikini’s too.

Paedophiles can only see limbs and stomach in bikinis. They will always imagine sick things no matter what they are wearing. They are sick.
Although ultimately it is the parents decision.

I am really interested and would appreciate it if someone would answer my question because I really am baffled! I don’t understand it. Maybe because of wear I was brought up?

My daughter never wore a bikini at this age, it’s just too JonBenet to me–you know, small town’s idea of what’s cute and adorable. When they’re small, it’s either just a diaper or a swimsuit (I just looked at a LandsEnd catalog and the tankinis look good too.. easier to go to the bathroom too . I’m not a big Reese fan but she’s raises her kids right. I’m sure Denise Richards her her toddlers in string bikinis already.

If you really want to talk about inappropriate swimsuits check out that Baby Phat kid’s line. I recently purchased a bathing suit for my 6 year old and when I got home and had her try it on, I almost fell out of my chair. The suit had a plunging neck line down to her belly button. I could not return it so I had to alter it by inserting an extra piece of material to cover her overexposed chest. At the time when I made the purchase I looked at it twice but thought that it will at least cover all her private parts.

But that’s just what I meant. The bikini tops suggest there’s something there to cover up, so that’s what sexualizes it (imo).

That said, I’m fine with toddlers wearing whatever swimwear their parents think appropriate.

I don’t know what adult would wear a frilly pink two piece bikini like that but okay…

It’s a very age appropriate two piece and like someone said, it doesn’t matter what your child is wearing, child predators are sick and therefore they think a certain way (that will not change based on what a child is wearing).

I personally don’t like seeing young girls/babies in bikinis either.
My daughter wears a tankini because she’s slender with a long torso. I can’t find a one piece that fits per properly because of this.
