“When the pain hit the roof, I had the thought that in a matter of moments I was going to be sitting and holding my baby with a big fat smile on my face - a thought that seemed ridiculous to me at the time but I knew it was true. And there we were, moments later.”

Introducing Henry Walter Mailman Coonan

Australian actress Deborah Mailman (The Secret Life of Us, Rabbit Proof Fence) and partner Matthew Coonan welcomed their first child together six weeks ago. The new parents spoke to Australian OK Magazine this week about their new baby boy, Henry Walter. They also posed for some gorgeous photos.

Like any new mom, Deborah, felt total relief once the birth was over and she heard Henry cry.

I heard his cry first, before I saw him, and I think because my body was going through so much already, and my mind was sort of, running on empty, but it was such a relief to hear his cry! And then they popped him straight on my chest, and just holding him, it was beautiful! That moment of knowing that everything was alright.

Dad, Matthew, is over the moon and content with their little family of three.

Yeah, I just sort of ducked around the blanket, had a quick look and then ran around and told Deb that he was happy and healthy and he was beautiful, and then it was just all three of us, which was great, but it just happened so quickly.

Henry has grown so fast, and is not stopping.

Well, just knowing how fast he’s grown in the last six weeks…like before long he’ll be walking and talking and we realise how quickly time is sort of passing, so we’re just going to hold him as tightly as we can before he starts running away from us!

On his name.

Walter is named after my dad, he was always going to have Walter as his middle name, Henry was one of many names that we had but he sort of chose his own name in a way. [Matthew adds] A little bit! We’d had a big list of names but by the end he just looked like a Henry.

    He’s beautiful!

What a fabulous family. I’ve been wondering how they’ve been going. Not very often we see an Aboriginal baby! He is divine!

Man, there are alot of Aussie baby updates lately!

Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

  3. Lilybett Says:

Sorry Karleigh but Deb Mailman is actually of both aboriginal and maori descent (she just calls herself ‘black’) and dad Matthew is as white as they come. So I don’t think its right to label Henry as an “aboriginal baby”- although it will probably be an important cultural influence in his life.

Here in oz she supports the aboriginal flag along with cathy freeman they made a big statement about it so u will most likely see the baby labelled as part aboriginal part white.

great to see so many aussie celebs appearing on here!
maybe u should start a aussie cleb baby blog!
