Mark Wahlberg’s “simplified” life of ponies and “poopie diapers”
A lot has happened in Mark Wahlberg’s life over the last two decades, but nothing was more important than the births of his children, Ella Rae, 3 1/2, and Michael, 12 1/2 months, with longtime girlfriend Rhea Durham. The one-time bad boy has traded in late-night partying for quality time and a "simplified" life with his kids, leaving his old buddies disappointed and confused.
[They think my life is boring] because I don’t take them out anymore. I don’t hang out. I’m home being responsible.
So responsible is Mark that when he does go out to dinner with friends, he comes home straightaway and will "be in bed by 9." His own Entourage – Mark serves as an executive producer on the comedy – has morphed too as his posse has been replaced by "maybe a nanny," he says. Their nanny doesn’t have to do too many things as the actor gladly and proudly changes diapers.
I changed a big poopie diaper this morning. My son had woke up, so I went down to get him and smelled that big bomb…
When he’s not tending to Michael, Mark reads Superman and Ninja Turtle books with Ella and goes all western at the request of his little girl, who loves to pretend to be a pony.
She goes, ‘Neighhhh, neighhhh.’ She wants me to be a mean cowboy and drag her around on a leash.
Mark has been fielding a number of offers coming off his first Oscar nomination and while his kids don’t know he’s a movie star yet, Ella does appreciate everything he does.
[She] says, ‘Daddy works really hard to buy [me] a princess bed.’ She has a bed with all the Disney princesses on it. She loves it.
