Kate Beckinsale’s blingin’ bedtime stories and Scooby-Doo belly
Walking the red carpet and going to after parties are fun, but KateBeckinsale tells Glamour that doesn’t compare to giving her daughter,Lily, 8, a bath and cozying up together with a book.
If going to a premiere means missing Lily’s bath time, I won’tmiss bath time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to present atthe Golden Globes, come home, whipped the dress off and read to mydaughter wearing gazillion-dollar earrings. That’s how it goes in myhouse, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
It isn’t only Kate who tucks Lily into bed. Famously close, Kateand Lily’s two dads, her father, Michael Sheen, and stepfather, director Len Wiseman, often kiss their daughter goodnight together, atight-knit bond that Lily loves.
The other night my daughter said, ‘I’m so lucky I’ve got twolovely daddies – I wish your daddy was still alive. (Kate’s father, actor Richard Beckinsale, passed away when she was 5.) Then she gave mea little hand squeeze. I thought, ‘You’re eight!’ I was sofantastically moved.
Kate was fantastically large more than eight years ago though whenshe was pregnant, something she and her friends weren’t expecting.
When I was pregnant, everyone told me you’re going to be one ofthose women with a little football in front. And then thisâ¦thing, thisScooby-Doo monster belly arrived. I gained 65 pounds. Every single partof my body was thicker – even my scalp! But that’s the advantage ofbeing young – it went right back.
As for the future, Kate hopes to focus on her career a little more since Lily is getting older.
Now that my daughter doesn’t require me to put her to bed every night,I can be a teeny bit more selfish and immerse myself in a project in away I found difficult to do when she was younger.

I am not a fan of Kate Beckinsale and I have trouble believing the wonderful rosy family picture she paints, as if any guy would be totally happy spending time with his ex and the guy she left him for!
I remember seeing a photo of her a few years ago where she was full on making out with her husband (then boyfriend) with a cigarette in one hand and her daughter was standing right there. It seemed really inappropriate.
