"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

Chris Rock has a paternity suit to deal with

Tags: News

Update: It was announced today that Chris Rock is pushing the paternity suit forward. Although Kali Bowyer withdrew her original papers recently (since by filing in Georgia when Chris lives in New Jersey, it falls outside of jurisdiction), Chris filed today to resolve the case. In the papers, a statement says that if Chris is proven to be the father, he wants to ‘contribute to the support, maintenance, and education’ of the boy.

A lawyer for Kali Bowyer said they are ‘looking forward to establishing that Mr. Rock is the father of their son and bringing the case to a swift conclusion,’ but would not say why Kali waited 13 years to file the original claim.

Originally posted March 29th: According to the National Enquirer, a 35 year old woman named Kali Bowyer is claiming that Chris Rock is the mother of her 13 year old son, Jordan.  She has gone public with the news now because her son has been suffering from seizures and she says that knowing Chris’ medical history will help them figure out what’s causing them. On March 15th, she filed papers in a Georgia court, demanding Chris submit to a paternity test and pay child support, medical coverage and attorney fees.

Kali says that she wants Chris to pay for child support, medical coverage and legal fees. She said,

I don’t want a dime for myself, but support for my son. My son’s 13 now and he knows what’s going on. He told me the other day, ‘I don’t need him in my life, just to take the test so I can find out what’s wrong with me.’

Kali said she met Chris in the 1990s at an LA nightclub, when she was 21, and the two hooked up "six or eight times."  She had been trying to get support from Chris, "from the time my Jordan was born until he was 3, I was talking to Chris’ lawyer, trying to get this resolved."  She said she kept getting brushed off, even after she obliged their requests for Jordan’s birth certificate, baby photos, and her pregnancy medical records. She said,

I complied, I was nice, and I was patient, but in the end Chris still refused to acknowledge paternity.  I just think that it’s rude that Chris just won’t respond. His attorneys exact words were, ‘This is going to disrupt his life.’

Kali would like to tell Chris,

Take five minutes, tell your wife you’re out for a cup of coffee, go to the doctor’s office and get the DNA test done. In five days we’ll have an answer.

Chris has two daughters, Lola, 4 1/2, and Zahra, 2 1/2, with his wife Malaak Compton-Rock.

Do you believe that Jordan is Chris’s son?

  1. Lissette Says:

I wonder if this is the reason there were rumors that his marriage was on the rocks?

  2. P Dawn Says:

I don’t know, and I actually don’t really care. I think it is very interesting that first she says is going public so, if the test is positive, they can maybe find out what is wrong with her son through Chris’ personal and family history, and then it says she is also asking for money for child support and medical and legal fees. I am not saying I don’t necessarily agree that she is entitled to those things, but I think she could have just been a little bit more honest…she wants money for child support and medical and legal fees, but she also wants to find out about the medical history. Especially since she has been supposedly trying for the money since the time her son was born.

  3. Yonni Says:

She could have came forward earlier. Why now?

  4. FC Says:

Too many things have this whole thing looking fishy to me. Her timing is damn near perfect, considering reports about him having some trouble in his marriage, then his new movie came out and he made one comment that she took to heart, the one about having a woman come knocking on his door talking about he has a baby with the said woman. She’s doing exactly that, only years later. Why wait so long?

I understand her son is sick and she wants coverage and support, but why wait 13 years to do this? She’s obviously been getting by with the bills and stuff somehow, since her son is now 13. I think she just picked this time because he’s in the spotlight and he made one little joke she decided to twist around and take advantage of. And it seems like she’s either told her son Chris is her father or she’s fed him lines to say to the media when they came around to ask him questions.

This just leaves a bad taste all around. And if this weren’t for money, she could’ve handled it without doing it so publicly. But she didn’t. Her waiting so long, going to National Enquirer of all magazines, and a few other things just cry foul to me.

  5. His Mother Says:

NO ONE IS GOING AFTER CHRIS FOR HIS MONEY OR EVER HAS , YOU ASK WHY I WAITED ALL THESE YEARS, WELL NOT THAT IT IS ANY OF YOUR CONCERN; MY SON JUST BECAME ILL. AND TO THE PERSON WHO MADE THE COMMENT ABOUT MONEY, NO I HAVE NOT BEEN TRYING TO GET MONEY FROM HIM FOR YEARS. AND THE SIMPLE FACT THIS WAS STARED PRIOR (MONTHS) BEFORE THE COMMENT HE MADE AND PRIOR TO HIS MOVIE.IF YOU ARE GOING TO ASS~UME THAT YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT A SITUATION YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. WELL YOU MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF.

  6. Nadia Says:

Why would this woman tell Chris to “tell his wife he is going for a cup of coffee”, but actually take a test? Why is she encouraging him to lie about it to his wife? Weirdo…seems fishy to me.

  7. sweetdiva Says:

I’m in agreement with you ladies. Why is she trying to play all coy and say it’s not about the money on one hand and then on the other hand is asking for child support? If it was really just about getting the medical history and nothing else, I really don’t think Rock would deny her that (pending proof of paternity)?

I have no idea whether he’s the daddy or not, but this lady’s credibility is already on shaky ground.

  8. latisha Says:

Why would she want him to lie to his wife?

  9. Sabina Says:

If the kid is Chris Rock’s son, then he owes the mother a lot of child support. That’s the way it goes, and the intent of the mother, whether honourable or otherwise, is irrelevant to the matter.

  10. Maggie Says:

It would be VERY interesting if Chris Rock was the child’s ‘MOTHER’. Sorry that made me laugh when I read it :) .

  11. Erin Says:

I don’t believe it for one second and if it were to be true, it’s not his fault that he didn’t know about the kid. No one wants to ever point out that it’s poor parenting on the mother’s part to not fight for child support. And the whole thing about his marriage having problems – this woman probably wants people to believe that this is why.

  12. halifaxhoney Says:

I don’t know what to believe when it comes to paternity issues.

If that child is his son, then I do believe that child support should be granted he should make sure that his child is well taken care of. If it’s true that the child’s mother had tried to have this process taken care of when the child was an infant maybe that is why she is going public with it, maybe it’s an effort to get him to comply and do the DNA test. At the same time I don’t think that she should suggest he lie to his wife. I myself am going through an issue with my own paternity and I encouraged this man that his wife should be 100% aware of all things going on.

  13. Susan Says:

“If the kid is Chris Rock’s son, then he owes the mother a lot of child support. That’s the way it goes, and the intent of the mother, whether honourable or otherwise, is irrelevant to the matter.”

Unless he knew this lady had a kid and then just walked away, he doesn’t owe her anything. It’s her own fault for putting off telling him for so many years. Why should he have to pay her if he just found out about the kid recently???

  14. Lori Says:

If she ‘just wants to find out what’s wrong with her son’ then why is she chasing him for child support?

  15. Erika Says:

are you all crazy. why wouldnt she seek support for her child? it is her responcibality to look out for the best interst of her child and that includes financially. if that is chris child he is supposed to take care of him. just because he is wealthy does that exclude him from taking care of his children… all of his children! it doesnt make her a gold digger for seeking support. that just goes to show how narrow minded people are and how they set different set of standards for celebrities. If Chris Rock worked at the post office would you still suggest that she is a gold digger and say that she should not seek support? Or if that woman was your sister or daughter would you still feel the same way? Or would you prefer for another fatherless black child apply for welfare to cover medical and living expenses?

Every child deserves to know their father and every father should feel honored to take care of his own flesh and blood.

    Check yourself people!!!!

  16. AllAngela Says:

Erika, with all due respect I have no idea why there was so much ire in your message. While I do agree that she should pursue a paternity hearing for her son, it does trouble me that she’s just now doing this for her 13-year-old who has some health problems. Where was she when her son was an infant and Chris Rock was on Saturday Night Live? And as a black woman I am offended that you chose to play the race card here. These posters were in no way implying that they want to see another black child on welfare.

  17. mindsuper Says:

lori is smoking crack……..first of all how this woman going to come out the wood works and say chris is the father after 13 years and then say oh yeah i want back child support. lori if you really feel that makes since then hell she must be your kin folk.

  18. Ada Says:

Um, am I the only one who is seeing this part?

“She had been trying to get support from Chris, “from the time my Jordan was born until he was 3, I was talking to Chris’ lawyer, trying to get this resolved.” She said she kept getting brushed off, even after she obliged their requests for Jordan’s birth certificate, baby photos, and her pregnancy medical records.”

So everyone please quit asking why she didn’t do this sooner. She has explained that his lawyers have brushed her off for years.

I think she is perfectly right to expect a lot from him and she deserves it for herself and her child. Apparently he has always been aware of his potential paternity of this child and he has chosen to ignore it.

I would take him for all he had if he chose to treat both me and my/his child with such callousness and disrespect.

AllAngela, you said “it does trouble me that she’s just now doing this for her 13-year-old who has some health problems.” I don’t quite understand what you mean. What better time to go public with a private struggle that has taken place for years than when your child is ill and being pushed aside and patronized is no longer an option?

  19. Tara R Says:

“Um, am I the only one who is seeing this part? She had been trying to get support from Chris, ‘from the time my Jordan was born until he was 3, I was talking to Chris’ lawyer, trying to get this resolved.’”

Thanks Ada – you are so right! Based on the responses, I thought I was the only one reading the original post in it’s entirety.

Kali Boyer is likely under tremendous financial pressure with her son’s recent medical diagnosis and if Chris is the father, he simply needs to step up.

  20. Loop Says:

She did not have to wait 13 year to find this out. This is what troubles me. If she really wanted to resolve this there really needed to be no negotiation – she could have filed a paternity suit, he would have been served and brought into court and the COURT would have ordered a DNA test. End of story – happens everyday. I don’t buy her story.

  21. Ada Says:

    Loop,

You don’t really have to buy her story. When the DNA results come back positive (as I suspect they will) she will have shown that she has not made this up or done this for publicity. I feel a lot of sympathy for a young 21-year-old woman who accidentally got pregnant and has recieved absolutely no help. The fact that she has raised this child without involving the media or Chris’s fame for 13 years speaks for itself.

Maybe she was trying to do the honorable thing and not ruin his “idyllic” hollywood life and family (as his lawyers advised) and not appear to be a gold-digger until it no longer became possible.

  22. sleep deprived Says:

I agree with loop. If she was so bent on getting him identified as the father, she COULD have done it within the first 6 months of the childs life. I did read the whole article- she tried for 3 years? Come on. No judge in this country would let a paternity suit drag on that long, weather his lawyer wanted it to or not.

Sure he should pay for the child’s care etc. if he’s the dad. It seems by the wording of the article that the mother hasnt been speaking too kindly about Rock from the start. I hope if he is the father she allows her child to develop a healthy relationship with him.

I feel she did a huge disservice to her son by not persuing this sooner, not neccesarily money wise, but not giving him the opportunity to know his dad.

  23. Chris Says:

I will be totally shocked if it comes back that CR is the kids son. I live in Statesboro, GA, I know this woman personally (unfortunately). Since meeting her 2 years ago, she has told me she is a claims investigator for a “major insurance company”, an attorney, a “well known” writer….lie after lie…. she WAS pregnant last summer and then all of a sudden no preggers and no baby….DUI while pregger, scam, evictions, BAD CHECKS….do a search for the Sylvania Telephone (local newspaper) and read her legal problems….

  24. hmmm Says:
