"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Liv Tyler and her struggle with baby weight

Liv Tyler, celebrity mom and also a celebrity baby in her own right, spoke to Britain’s You magazine about dropping the baby weight and what her diet consisted of. Liv and husband, Royston Langdon, welcomed their first child, Milo William in December 2004.

While, some women lose the pounds due to breastfeeding, Liv did not.

I was not one of those women who just dropped pounds instantly when I was breastfeeding.

What cravings did she have?

Actually, I got so homely I was ravenous for things like doughnuts and cakes.

Liv says that she was determined to be a stay-at-home mom for the first year of Milo’s life. However this didn’t mean that the press left her alone.

I can remember walking down the street one day – I was going to the nail salon – when … a photographer took my picture. I was wearing a very unflattering shirt that I had worn when I was pregnant and a pair of sweat pants, and when the picture appeared in a magazine they ran a caption asking if I was pregnant again. When I saw it I said, ‘I think the holiday is over.’

What did she try to shift the weight?

I did a million different things. I would be on a strict protein diet and then a raw diet, and then I would do colonics and fasting. And I did Pilates, yoga and working out with my trainer.

The unusual topics she and her celebrity dad talk about;

My dad, Steven Tyler, and I always talk about creams! (Liv is the face of Givenchy)

Her one weakness.

I’m afraid I smoke sometimes. I did give up for a long time when I had Milo, but on my last film my character smoked and that was bad for me. I don’t like it, but I secretly love it. I know it’s terrible.

I’m so glad someone else is admitting that breastfeeding didn’t help her lose any weight. That was something I didn’t expect because so many celebrity moms were attributing their weight loss to nursing. I just stopped breastfeeding (child-led weaning) and I dropped 5 pounds this week alone without trying. For some strange reason, I guess I held on to extra pounds while nursing? I’m excited about next week! I feel like getting myself a new pair of…smaller…jeans. Well, Liv is lovely. How annoying that the press questioned whether she was pregnant again. I’m so glad I’m not famous because I would have been the cover girl for “Is she expecting again?”

  2. P Dawn Says:

I never lost any weight with breastfeeding either, and I did it for 13 months. Unfortunately, I didn’t lose it after I quit either. Guess I will have to try and do it the old fashioned way :)

I’m guessing she means “homely” in the British sense (like about staying home and nesting) not the American English meaning of the word (ugly).

I’m disappointed to read this. In past interviews, I found it so refreshing that Liv said she didn’t care about losing the baby weight (same with Jennifer Garner). Now, Liv admits that she felt pressured and tried all sorts of diets (including unhealthy methods) to lose it. I just wish we’d get to a place in our culture where we could celebrate the beautiful gift of *life* and not obsess on what we are not, or what we don’t have. Liv gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy, and naturally her body changed because of that. A woman’s body is *designed* to bear children and to carry more fat. I am thin and stay fit, and I believe people should exercise and eat well, but that doesn’t mean every woman has to be a size 2…

I never lost weight breastfeeding either. I’m not sure about after weaning b/c I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding for almost four years now! But, I think it has to do with my ravenous appetite for things like doughnuts and cakes too!

He is such a cute little boy. He looks like a Golden Book baby.

  7. Callen Says:

Im so sick and tired of hearing about Celeb mom baby weight. Jeez they should talk about their children. How their growing up, New developments. NOT WEIGHT!!!

  8. PSB Says:

Callen, not everybody feels that way. I can understand how annoying it is when celebs are skinny 2 minutes after giving birth and talk about their weight loss regime, but I really like when Liv talks about her baby weight. It makes me feel much better about struggling with mine, because other celebs make it look so easy and it can be demoralizing. Liv is a real person.

I didn’t lose while breastfeeding either– weaning only helped in that I was able to diet more and wasn’t starvign all the time. I’ve lost 15 lbs so far and still have a lot to go!
