Helen Hunt out with Makena’lei
Actress Helen Hunt, 43, her longtime boyfriend, writer/producer Matthew Carnahan, 46, (Dirt) and their daughter Makena’lei Gordon, who turns 3 on May 13th, were spotted out shopping at Lucky Kid boutique on Montana Ave on Thursday. Makena’lei also has a big brother, Emmett, from Matthew’s prior relationship.
Both of Makena’lei’s names have special meaning – her middle name is after Helen’s father. Of her first name, Helen says,
I got some help from a friend who had a dream. It means ‘many flowers of heaven.’
Makena’lei wears Crocs kids Mary Janes in red ($31).

Wow, gorgeous kid. But neither of her parents has red hair? Weird.
Matthew’s hair has a strawberry tone to it. Just hard to see in these pics. Definitely not that bright red though!

but remember, the parents don’t need to have red hair for your child to get red hair. It just has to run somewhere down the family line.
Maybe a grandparent or something.

i LOVE helen hunt-why she does not get more work in hollywood i do not know. maybe she’s slowed down coz of her daughter? i knew she had 1, but i’d never seen her,she’s so big for almost 3 but a cutie.and yeah, both my parents had brown hair when younger, but my bro has reddish hair(darker when he was younger) and i’ve always been a rather dumb blonde LOL.mum’s hair was kinda auburn, so i guess that’s where it came from.thanx for posting!

She is a beauty!!!
I am partial to her hair because my son has the exact same colour hair as Makena’lei. My hubby and I were shocked as he has black hair and mine is dark brown!!! But red hair runs on both sides of our families way back and it is a recessive gene.
What a beautiful family they make.

I agree – this gal is precious. Yes, redheads can have 2 non-redhaired parents… And many redheads don’t have one themselves – since it has to be present on both sides. I’m a redhead myself – took 3 babies but I have one now too!

I’d guess that one of them isn’t a natural blonde since red is recessive but not recessive to blonde. And it acutally only has to be present on one side. But that is some gorgeous red hair!

Helen’s friend forgot to add “lani” to Makena’lei’s name. As it stands her name means “many wreaths”. Makena = many, pua = flower, lani = heavenly. Still, she IS a very beautiful girl and her hair is outstanding!
Makena is a very popular place on Maui for visitors. At Makena landing one can swim out a few feet and see turtles swimming by the rocks. It’s just beautiful like Makena’Lei.

Beautiful name, we named our daughter Makena’lei Lahaina, only found out Helen Hunt had a daughter Makena’lei after googling the name. It’s truly a beautiful & an original name.
