How Bryce Dallas Howard found out she was pregnant and more
Spider-Man 3 star Bryce Dallas Howard stopped by The Tonight Show withJay Leno and revealed how she discovered she was pregnant with Theo,now 2 months, and Jay’s connection to the birth.
Bryce and her husband Seth Gabel tied the knot in June and she learned she was pregnant a week later on a Turkish cruise ship. Inlieu of a honeymoon, the two went on a family reunion with Bryce’sfamily in Turkey, during which she started to feel ill and decided totake a pregnancy test. Her father, Ron Howard, Seth, her uncles andgrandfather purchased a test for her, but she hit a roadblock when shefound out the entire test was in Turkish.
I proceeded to go around to every single staff member of thisboat and say, you know, ‘Do you speak Turkish?’ And nobody did. So then itdawned on me, I should call the Turkish tour guide and try to get him to translate it.
Bryce called him up and recited each letter to him.
We got to the end of that phrase and I was like, ‘Okay, so what does thatmean?’ And he said, ‘Put the stick between your legs and urinate.’ Finallywe got down to the bottom and he figured out and said, ‘Congratulations,you’re pregnant.’
As previously reported, Bryce had planned for a homebirth, but eventually gave birth at the hospital with Jay’s indirect help.
[Myparents] were at my house when I went into labor. The midwife barelymade it. They were walking upstairs with tea kettles full of hot water,thinking they were in some kind of John Wayne film, and the last minutewe had to transport to the hospital. And the midwife was like, ‘Ok,hurry, hurry. Let’s go right now. Let’s go.’ And I just started walkingoutside, not realizing, of course, that I was completely nude. And mydad actually grabbed a bathrobe from your show, so I gave birth in yourbathrobe.
Theo’s birth is documented, thanks to some co-directing from herparents. Although Ron is an Academy Award-winning director, hecouldn’t rise to the occasion in the delivery room.
You wouldthink he’s this amazing filmmaker and his composition would be soelegant, poignant. But he was totally freaked out of his mind, so itwas basically our feet the entire time. And then my mom grabbed it andshe started shooting. And so you see the birth and then pan to the leftand you see my dad hiding behind the curtain just, like, green, like,’Oh my God!’ And my mom’s hand-gesturing, like, ‘Get over here rightnow! Your daughter’s giving birth!’

Lately CBB has been non stop Bryce Dallas & Tobey Maguire! I guess they know how to get publicity for their film – talk about their babies!
Yeah! It’s just because they’ve been making all the talk show rounds, which we write up.

Well, from that story I’d say the Howards are quite the close family. I’m not knocking it, no judgement here – to each his/her own. I just have to admit that the idea of laboring naked with both my parents in attendence is a little out there for me.

I watched her on Leno, it was cute. Personally, I wouldn’t have my father in my delivery room but I guess they’re REALLY close. I told my husband (who was with me when our children were born) never to look “down there” or take any photos of the “area”… We’re very close but some things should remain private, IMHO.

Whew! I agree with millie and madison…I love my father, but to have him in the delivery room filming while I’m naked…umm, unthinkable. I don’t think we’d be able to have a normal conversation for years afterwards. But hey, it take all types in this world…

Hey, all the more power to her for being so close to her dad, but I would definitely not be able to let my dad see me naked or witness me giving birth! He doesn’t even think I have sex. Which is wierd because I’m married, but he can’t think of me in any way other than his little girl!
But I guess she’s extremely comfortable. All the men in her family bought her the pregnancy test?! How unusual, but funny!

I have to agree with the other comments on her close relationship with her father, let alone the men in the family being part of the pregnancy test. I would think her husband would feel a bit left out with all this, but possibly not. I only wanted my husband with me when my kids were born (besides the medical staff) and cannot imagine having a birth like she did. I’ve had relatives that have given birth in a room full of parents, inlaws ~ you name it ~ and they have regretted the decision afterwards.
I’m sure her father is a blast and her baby beautiful!

I think that it’s very nice that she shares that kind of moments with her father. And husbond. I would be embarrased about it and I’m sure that it would be really awkwad for me – but that’s just how I am.
I don’t know if it’s just me… But how many of you thinks that Bryce looks blind? And not just because I’ve seen ‘The Village’ – isn’t her eyes beautiful? I’m so facinated! I love her in all the M Night Shyamalan-movies. I think that she’s fab.
