Sheryl Crow adopts baby boy
Songstress Sheryl Crow, 45, has just announced on her website that she is proud new mom. She has adopted a baby boy, born two weeks ago, that she has named Wyatt Steven. She writes,
His name is Wyatt (after my dad) Steven (after my little brother and Scooter [my manager]) and we are enjoying some very private family time.Just wanted you to be the first to know.
Sheryl’s rep confirms that Wyatt was born in the US, and says,
She’s just going to take some time off to be a mom.
The adoption was first rumored on Monday.

I hope this isn’t some kind of publicity stunt. Seems to me a lot of celebrities are jumping on the adoption bandwagon.

WOW! That is absolutely wonderful news! I am so happy for Sheryl and her little man…she will, no doubt, be an amazing mother and it’s obviously something she’s been wanting…congrats to the new mom and her baby boy =)) Not many people deserve that happiness more than Sheryl =)

I so totally don’t get the ‘publicity stunt’ comment. She is 45 years old, without a serious significant other (as far as the public knows anyway) and has several times in the past expressed a desire to have a child/be a mother at some point in her life. She has the financial means to do this on her own, is giving a child a good home and its a publicity stunt? If all she wanted was publicity, all she would have to do would be to date another celebrity, record an album or do a tour – all things that would be much easier than taking on the commitment of raising a child.

I remember being irked with her for a statement that went along the lines of ‘whether or not I have children of my own or adopt..’
Our adopted children are very much our own.
Regardless, I hope she has done her homework and ENJOYS being a new mom.
And, blessings to the very special birthmother who made this all possible, too.
Happy Mother’s Day, Sheryl.

WOW! I thought the rumors were just rumors so this came as a suprise to me. But a good one! I’m so incredibly happy for her. I wish her all the luck in the world for this new phase in her life.

CONGRATS! I am so happy for her!
May 11th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Awww, just in time for Mother’s Day! I’m so happy for her!
May 11th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
That is fantastic news! When she and Lance broke up, I worried that she wouldn’t get the chance to be a mom. Good for her for going ahead with her dream, regardless. She deserves much happiness.
Congrats to the new mama, and you are right, Principesa, blessings to the little boy’s birthmother. I am sure Sheryl is very grateful.

Congrats to Sheryl! I was a big surprised by the news but Sheryl will definitely be a great mother, no doubt about that.

I wonder how she was able to adopt so soon after her cancer diagnosis? I mean she was battling breast cancer just last year!
Am I the only one wondering about this? Was she able to adopt simply because of her celebrity status or can you really adopt so quickly after a disease like that?

You were wondering the same thing I was… How did she adopt so soon after her cancer diagnosis? I mean she was battling breast cancer just last year.
I think she was able to adopt simply because of her celebrity status.
Most adoption agencies and homestudy guidelines would not allow such an adoption to take place…
Especially many countries have strict requirements. The adoptive parents cannot have AIDS, any past history of cancer and have a certain BMI in addition to countless other requirements…
Well, good luck to her… And I wish all those Non-Celebrity couples who are in the process of adopting and WAITING, BEST WISHES as they wait for their phone call…

If her doctor has given her the okay, then I’m sure her adoption agency had no problem allowing her to adopt. My parents adopted both of my siblings shortly after my mother’s diagnosis with breast cancer.

Now that she is in remission, and if her doctor believes her to have a healthy future, adoption should not be a problem.

Kebechet & Jennifer:
I have a history of serious health problems and I’m looking into adoption, so i want to clear up some misconeptions that are floating around about adoption. It’s possible to adopt if you have serious health problems (including a history of cancer, even if it’s recent) provided your doctor feels you’re healthy enough to raise a child. I think the confusion comes from the fact that, even though it’s legal to adopt with health problems, some agencies still refuse to work with a person who has health problems, so you have to kind of hunt around to find the right agency. Unfortunately I know people who went to one agency and that agency told them they wouldn’t work with people with health problems and the prospective adoptive parents mistaken assumed that it was going to be impossible for them to adopt. The state sets the adoption rules and then each agency can add on additional rules for THAT AGENCY. There are, in fact, agencies that work specifically with people with health problems, some that won’t, some that work only with married couples, some that work only with religious couples, etc. It varies from agency to agency.

I have to ask a question: Why is it that, whenever a celebrity adopts, people always say one of the following two things about her (or them):
1. She/they were allowed to adopt only because of their celebrity status
2. She/they were allowed to adopt illegally and/or quicker than normal because of her/their celebrity status?
And if it’s not one of those two, then it’s “She/they adopted as a publicity stunt”. Why, oh, why must people be so judgemental? Instead of constantly bashing celebs for adopting, why can’t we just be happy for them that they are either finally moms/parents or that they have a beautiful new addition to their family (like in the case of Brad and Angelina, who already had three kids when they adopted Pax)? All of that said, since Sheryl is in remission, I don’t see why she wouldn’t be allowed to adopt as long as her doctor gave her the okay.

good for sheryl crow . big fan always read in articles she wanted a little one and so happy to see that her dream of hers that came true . she will be a great mother to that little boy after eveything she has been through she deserves that unbelievable happiness a child brings
May 12th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
I can’t believe some of the comments that have been posted. How dare someone say that an adoption is a publicity stunt! I am 100% sure that her adoptiong agency thoroughly screened her and made sure she was healthy enough to mother a child. Stating ‘publicity” as why you want to adopt a child surely wouldn’t fly with any agency!!
She has mentioned many times as to her desire to be a mother, biologically or not. Leave her, and other adoptive parents, alone!
May 13th, 2007 at 8:12 am
I think 45 is the ideal age to, when you haven’t had the opportunity in your life to concieve and bear a child, seriously consider adoption. She isn’t likely to be able to bear a biological child after this time, and if it is one’s desire to be a parent, waiting any longer is not a good idea. Congratulations to Sheryl and her new son, born in time for Mother’s Day. I know she will be a wonderful mother and I applaud her for adopting a child from the U.S. There are children here too, who need a family.

Children EVERYWHERE need a family.

Sheryl donated the money from the sale of the photos of her baby to WFP. I would do the same thing if I was being stalked by photographers to get the “First pictures” to sale for their own profit. I work for the World Food Program (http://www.wfp.org) and I think what she is doing is great. She should be congratulated for donating to WFP. More people die of hunger related causes than HIV aids, malaria and tuberculosis combined! The World Food Program is currently feeding over 20 million children each year however thousands more still die from hunger every single day. We need more help like this from everyone to help save the 850 Million people food insecure in the world…
