“I sit there and play princesses with my daughter, and I never told her anything about a princess, ever. Whereas I go to my brother’s house, and he’s got two boys…I walk in the front door, and I instantly get punched in the nuts.”

Celebs flock to Healthy Child, Healthy World – “Healthy House”

After 16 years dedicated to protecting children’s environmental health, the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition re-launched this month as Healthy Child, Healthy World with an event designed to highlight the simple and easy steps parents and caregivers can take to make homes safer for children.

To celebrate the launch they created a real-life HealtheHouse at the Leed® Platinum Rated Home of LivingHomes® CEO Steve Glenn. Health conscious celebs like Jenna Elfman, Amy Brenneman, Laura Dern, Kelly Rutherford, Sasha Alexander and Marla Sokoloff walked through the house and learned about cutting-edge developments in healthier lifestyle alternatives. Hosts for the included Anna Getty, Dr. Harvey Karp and Christopher Gavigan, CEO/Executive Director of Healthy Child.

From low VOC paints to water saving fixtures and recycled flooring, the house was an inspiration to all. Everyone present commented on the cool loft like vibe and great décor. It actually made “being green” look easy. Especially after talking to reps from several kid friendly green companies. Some of the products highlighted at the event:

ONE Coconut water – enjoyed by Jenna Elfman – this beverage boasts more nutrients than Gatorade and is the perfect drink for children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.

Born Free Bottles – made from safer plastic that will not leach toxic chemicals into your child’s milk.

Naturepedic – PVC-free mattresses made from organic and safer materials.

Nuiwater – healthy beverages for your kids, delivered right to your door.

G-Diapers – a cloth diaper "hybrid" system that has biodegradeable disposable inserts that are flushable, and compostible.

Beyond Learning – Fun and thought stimulating games for kids that use environmentally friendly inks and paper.

Plum Organics – Organic, fresh, healthy baby food available at select markets.
