Featured Review: DIRT Candles: Soy candles that smell awesome!

Dirt_candlesI’m a sucker for a smelly candle.  My husband always teases me aboutwhat I’m baking because our apartment frequently smells of vanilla-ydesserts.  Until recently, I was a major fan of Yankee Candle Companybut then I discovered DIRT Candles. They are not only deliciously scented but makes me feel a little betterabout burning them because they are made of biodegradable soybean waxand natural scents.

Made from organically grown American soybeans, essential oils, packaged in recycled glass and paper, with a portion of profitsbenefiting charities, the 10 ounce candles which come in 20 differentscents burn without soot, are biodegradable and have a cotton wick. They come packaged in a recycled paper box, which makes for a greatgift presentation.

The sophisticated scents are derived from essential oils, organicingredients, and naturally blended fragrances. These are candles withcomplexity, not just one-note simple scents. In fact, there areanywhere from 30-100 notes in each candle, similar to quality perfume.I wish you could smell these candles through the screen because theyare so damn delicious.  I’m burning Gingerbread Man now and it smells amazing.  The scent is sweet but not cloying and not artificial at all.

Since I’m a sucker for dessert scents, I sampled these seven scents, but the other 13 scents will be sure to please:
Chop Shop – spicy cinnamon bark combines with nuances of nutmeg, swirled with fresh green tea and creamy soymilk
Gingerbread Man – a sweet scent of oven-baked cinnamon and ginger with drops of golden butter reminiscent of a favorite holiday cookie
Stop, Drop and Roll – baked fresh ground cinnamon leaf, a hint of snappy ginger and toasted sugar
Smart Aleck – this fruity-green herbal blend, contains notes of red fruits, blackcurrants, peaches, tagetes and davana essential oils, vanilla andcaramel
Old Faithful – a thick, rich, creamy sweet vanilla
Catch 22 – a complex blend of spices, patchouli, sandalwood, spice and fresh spanish moss
Piggyback Ride – the sparkling notes of pomegranate are riding on botanical sage andtropical ferns with a touch of bergamot essential oil

Celebrity moms who received DIRT Candles in a Mother’s Day gift basket include the usual A-listers: AngelinaJolie, Reese Withersoon, Marcia Cross, Jennifer Garner, Gwen Stefani,Brooke Shields, Kelly Ripa, Leah Remini, and Faith Hill. At a recent gifting suite, celebrity dad Greg Grunberg picked up some candles as well.

I’ll have to give these a try! I’m a sucker for candles also and love the backing and home scents also. I’ve been a die hard “Gold Canyon Candle” fan for years now, we’ll have to see how they compare. Thanks for the recommendation!
