   My daughter is 3 1/2 and would be scared to death to see Pirates of the Caribbean…I think 3 or 4 is definitely too young to see a movie like this…

   ditto Spiff. When my husband and I went to the DMC movie last year there were alot of to young to be there kids including two kids 6 and under in front of us who were with their parents and had to leave because the movie was too much for them. I knew they would be screaming and crying because POC does have some intense scenes for younger viewers. I was right they had to be taken out of the theater because they were so frightened. Bad idea. At that age they have a hard time telling the difference between what is real and what is fantasy. I think Lauren Holly is a great mom though Im not saying she made a parenting mistake who knows maybe her son enjoyed the movie. As a mom of two young children I think it is important to view a movie before your child sees it, at least when they are very young. That way you can decide for yourself if your child can handle it or not. I know my 3 year old wouldn’t be able to handle this movie

   I have a 3 1/2 year old and I wouldn’t take him to see that movie. He’s just too young. Hopefully she was just bringing him for the dress up, glitzy, Hollywood part and didn’t actually stay to see the movie. I’d like to believe that, anyway! When we went to see Pirates 2, there was a mom there with children who were young and scared so not every mom has great common sense!

   I agree with all of you. I took my cousin’s two girls (then 8 and 6 1/2) to see Curse of the Black Pearl when it first came out despite my worries that it was too mature for them (the trailer did NOT look kid-friendly, which shocked me since it’s a Disney movie). Nontheless, we decided to give it a try. The 8-year-old covered her eyes when the pirates first invaded land burning everything, and when Elizabeth is attacked by the ghost pirates on the boat I turned to the 6 1/2-year-old, knowing how she would be reacting, and asked her, “Do you want to leave?” She turned to me and nodded her head emphatically. The 8-year-old had no objections, so we ended up leaving.
   I know every kid is different, but come on-it’s rated PG-13 for Pete’s sake! Why someone would take a 3 or 4-year-old to a movie like that is beyond me. They simply aren’t mature enough to sit and enjoy the movie the way older kids and adults are. I was surprised to see photos of Natalie Maines’s 6-year-old and Kobe Bryant’s 4-year-old at the premiere as well. It’s possible they took them just to party, but I highly doubt it.

   I agree with all the above and am very surprised that so many celebrities bring their young children to these premieres. Pirates is not appropriate for children under 10 and even then it’s probably still questionable. I think people are so eager to grow their children up quickly and consequently expose thenm to things which they may not be mature enough to understand and handle.

   Why is it that people are always quick to say how others should be raising their children? I watched horror films when I was much younger and I turned out fine. Perhaps their children know that it’s make believe considering their parents do work in the industry. I would imagine celebrity kids have a much easier time believing that what they see on screen is a created fantasy (especially since their parents tend to take them on set).

   It has nothing to do with wanting them to grow up quickly. It’s a film for goodness sakes. If a kid isn’t mature enough to handle it, I’m sure their parents wouldn’t MAKE them sit there and watch. Some of the kids might have already seen the films previous to this one and could handle it which is why their parents have taken them to the premiere.

   On e’s live on the red carpet special they interviewed lauren and said it was her 4 year old son. This is just to specify.

   100% agree. I saw Child’s Play 2 when I was around that age because it was my dad’s favourite movie. I’m too chicken to watch it now but funnily enough I remembered loving it then. It’s Pirates Of The Caribbean, not Cannibal Holocaust, for God’s sake. If the parents think it’s fine, the kids think it’s fine, why should you worry about it? Seriously.

   Does it matter that any of her children are bio siblings? They are all siblings now. Why single anyone out or try to make it better by mentioning that?

   It’s not trying to ‘make it better’ — it’s a quote from Lauren in the article that’s linked.
