Celebrating Celebrity Baby Birthdays – Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt
Some of the world referred to her as the "golden child." Two of the world’s most beautiful people came together as a family with two children. Later the couple welcomed their third child; an absolutely gorgeous baby girl. The world welcomed the much anticipated child of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt on May 27th, 2006. Shiloh was CBB’s number one baby of 2006!
Name: Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt
Birthday: May 27th, 2006
Famous for: Being the first biological child of Brad Pitt and girlfriend Angelina Jolie.
Name meaning: The first name, which is traditionally masculine, is pronounced SHY-low, and is of Hebrew origin. There seem to be many meanings for the name, ranging from "his gift" and "he who is to be sent," to "peaceful." Shiloh is also the site of a crucial battle in the American Civil War. The middle name is believed to be inspired by famous architect Jean Nouvel – a favorite of Brad’s. The family calls her ‘Shi.’
Siblings: Shiloh was welcomed by Maddox Chivan, now 5 1/2, and Zahara Marley, now 2. The family recently welcomed another son into their family, Pax Thien, 3 1/2.
Birth story: Shiloh was born in the evening by c-section, due to breech positioning. Brad and Angelina knew of the potential issue with the birth before the delivery, and flew Angelina’s OB, Dr. Jason Rothbart, in to perform the surgery.
Shiloh was born in Namibia, meaning that she has a dual passportwith the US, a connection to another country and her sister’s birthplace.
I was so happy to have Shilohin Africa, that we could do that and for her to have a Namibianpassport. She has that connection to another country and to hersister’s part of the world. I think that ties them together a little.

Much scrutiny seems to have constantly surrounded Angelina and her love of adoption, leading people to question her affection for Shiloh. However, this month the news of Shiloh being planned came directly from her mother’s mouth.
Before I met Brad, I always said I was happy never to have a child biologically. He told me he hadn’t given up on that thought. Then, a few months after Z came home, I saw Brad with her and Mad, and I realized how much he loved them, and a biological child would not in any way be a threat. So I said, ‘I want to try.’
After having Shiloh, and hence a baby that looked like her parents, Angelina decided that perhaps it was important for Mad to have a brother who was originally from the same place as him.
Something changed for me with Shiloh. We had Mad and Z, and neither looked like Mommy or Daddy. Then suddenly somebody in the house looks like Mommy and Daddy. It became clear to us that it might be important to have somebody around who is similar to the other children so they have a connection. Mad’s been very excited that his brother is from Asia.
In a much scrutinized interview with UK Elle, Angelina talked about adoption versus biological. And remember the "blob" comment suggested by the interviewer?!
I think I feel so much more for Madd and Zee because they’re survivors, they came through so much. In some way they’re strangers because they had this life before me. Shiloh seemed so privileged from the moment she was born, I have less inclination to feel for her. I have the do the opposite from what I expected! I met my other kids when they were six months; they came with a personality. A newborn really is this…blob [the interviewer suggests]…! But now she’s starting to have a personality. The three of them are very funny together, very loud and in each other’s faces. She’s grown up with Zee screaming in her face in the morning! But, yes I’m conscious that I have to make sure I don’t ignore her needs, just because I think the others are more vulnerable.

I love this little girl she’s just adorable and I can’t get enough of this family. I can’t stand all the controversy surrounding them because in my opinion they are truly genuine and seem to really love each other.

YAY for Shiloh!! I love, love, love this girl. She looks like a porcelain doll with pouty lips. When she was born Maddox said, “She’s beautiful,” and he was so right! Smart boy. She’s a year old now and has no idea how incredibly influential she’s been. She’s a baby fashion icon, and she’s responsible for a turning point/change of plans in the building of the Jolie-Pitt family. Like Angie said, “Suddenly there was someone in the house who looked like Mommy and Daddy.” (Though does she not see how much Zahara looks like her??) If it wasn’t for her, they might not have adopted a kid from Vietnam. Pax owes her.
As for who she resembles, it’s the same with Suri Cruise: at certain angles, she looks just like her dad, and at other angles she looks just like her mom. But in the above photos I can definitely see the resemblance between her and Brad. They even have the same hairstyle!
I’m pretty sure she has Angelina’s brow, though. I think time will tell. Whoever she looks like, she’s going to be one gorgeous woman.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since she was born-I remember it like it was yesterday. In that time, she has undoubtedly grown into the most beautiful celebrity baby. I just want to pinch those cheeks. Happy birthday babe!

Forgot to say something: I never understood why some people think the Elle interview is polemic.
The dictionary gives us this definition for the phrasal verb “to feel for”: to experience sympathy and sadness for someone because they are suffering.
Of course Angie would experience sadness for an orphaned baby (Zee) whom she adopted when the little girl was so sick and malnutritioned that her survival was questionable. Don’t you remember Z spent her first days in America in a hospital fighting for her life?
And also for orphaned Maddox, who had been living in an orphanage since his birth in a country ridden by poverty and disease.
With Shihoh she only experienced joy and happiness, never sadness. So obvious. Why do some of you read her words as less love for her biological daughter when things are so clear and natural? How can you ever think that she loves Shiloh, a baby she made with her man, a baby she carried for 9 months and breastfed for 5, a baby that she took care from birth, a baby who remembers her of Brad, less than her other kids because she never felt sorry for this beautiful, wanted, deeply loved and admired girl?

Reading all the comments here and on JJ, i’m reminded of the fairytale: Sleeping Beauty. (LOL) Remember in that story, all the good witches of the kingdom were invited to the little princess’ first birthday so they could give her their blessing. Then in comes the wicked witch who had not been invited to the party and who was so angry that she uttered an evil wish for the baby. However, the good witches were able to nullify that evil wish etc. etc. etc.
So all you folks upthread wishing baby Shi such good wishes, youre all good cyber aunts.
Here’s hoping that no bad witch will come ruin the party.

BJ-Thanks for sharing that with us! I noticed two interesting things about that site. The first was that they pronuced two of Shiloh’s names (Shiloh and Jolie), wrong in the video. They pronuced Shiloh as “She-low” (as it says in this post, the correct prounication is “Shy-low”), and Jolie as “Jolly”. I’m pretty sure it’s actually pronuced “Joe-ly”. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting. The other thing I noticed was that, in the list of facts about Shiloh, they got Maddox’s age wrong. They claim he is 6, but he is really 5 1/2, isn’t he? Does anyone happen to know when his b-day is. I am curious because I know at least the birth months of all of his siblings (Z was born in January, Shi in May, and Pax in November), but I cannot remember his for some reason!

Shiloh has striking lips, eyes, and skin. She’s a combo of Brad and Angelina, who are obviously both blessed genetically! She’s very feminine looking and she’s obviously going to be a very attractive woman.

To the commenters who said that they hope Shi never reads the Elle UK interview….relax! I am sure that, if she ever does read it (and I am guessing she probably will eventually), it will be when she is an adult. At that point, she will be old enough to relieze what Mags pointed out: that Angie obviously meant that she felt sadness and sympathy for Mad and Z. because they both got off to a rocky start in life, and Z nearly died right after Angie adopted her. I am sure that Shi will not be bothered a bit. If anything else, I am sure that she will ask her mom what she meant when she made that comment, and Angie will explain it to her.

Shiloh is beautiful, nice mixture of both Angelina and Brad. Shiloh, Suri, and Dannielynn are the prettiest celebrity girl babies IMO. I hope as Shiloh gets older now we see more pics of her, because she is one of the prettiest celebrity babies, she looks like a gerber baby.

I get what Angie meant… newborns are like blobs in that they just lay there… they don’t sit up, they don’t crawl… they can’t yet.
They also don’t smile, they dont’ show much in the way of personality, though they will show their temperment.
And when you see her specify that she is meaning she tends to thin of Mad and Zee as being more vulnerable, what she means is she feels more for them in that she feels that they are more likely to feel jealous, that they weren’t lucky enough to know her from before they were born, that kind of thing.
Shiloh is priveleged that she will never know living in an orphanage or poverty.

A newborn baby is essentially an eating, sleeping, pooping machine. It’s also an adorable entity so we look past the poop and fall in love with what produced it. At about two months old you can see them developing little personalities and turning into people. Why so big a flap was made about that “blob” comment — which, by the way, came from the interviewer, not from Angelina — I will never understand.
