Celine Dion and son Rene-Charles in Hello!
Celine Dion gave Canadian HELLO! magazine an interview about her Las Vegas show A New Day coming to an end on December 15th after five years and her family life, including six year old son Rene-Charles and her husband Rene Angelil.
She told the magazine,
Before him, my vocal chords ruled my life. All I had was my voice, and Ihung onto it.
So, what’s up next for Celine?
I’ll dolittle tours with little shows… and maybe have a second child. My mother had me at 41; I’m sure I could do the same.
She has also just launched a new fragrance with Avon- Spring in Paris. The scent of the Eau de Toilette Spray is described as "a fresh white floral bouquet capturing all the charm of the world’smost romantic city with sparkling clementine, fresh pink muguet andsoft, sensuous musk." I tried it and it’s not bad- usually I can’t stand Avon perfumes (and having worked there for 4 years, I’ve tried a lot of them!) but Spring in Paris is actually subtle and kind of sophisticated. The magazine hits Canadian newsstands on Thursday, May 31st.
(P.S. Yes, Rene-Charles IS a boy and yes, his hair IS long.)

i love boys with long hair! he´s handsome but he´s just not looking like celine. how old is she now?
May 30th, 2007 at 10:50 am
What a beautiful boy! And his hair is so long! I don’t know, usually I’m not a big fan of boys with such long hair but I think it really suits him. He looks stunning. I really hope Celine and Rene’s dream of having another child will become reality – they deserve it.

Her son needs a haircut, I thought it was a girl.
Long hair can suit boys but his hairstyle is totally feminine.

People mention kate hudson’s son has long hair, this is way longer lol. Way too long for a 6yr old little boy IMO.
May 30th, 2007 at 11:12 am
I realize Rene-Charles is a little boy but at first glance I literally thought it was a girl. Yeah i’m on board with everyone else, he does need a hair cut or styled different.. He does have gorgeous blue eyes though..

she was with her son last week on a french magazine too, she said “René-Charles lives like her, waiting her until midnight for bed time, doesn’t go to school but his nanny is teaching him classes and he’s playing poker with his dad”. Her husband said he would like his wife to cut René-Charles’s hair
May 30th, 2007 at 11:34 am
i don´t think he needs a haircut as long as he feels comfortable; he´s a sweet little boy!
May 30th, 2007 at 11:34 am
She was asked about his hair in an interview and she said that she’d love to cut it, but he’s the one who doesn’t want a haircut.
Those curls are still his babycurls!
And ya…it’s getting to the point of being TOO long…he’d look good with a Presley Gerber cut!

I’m sorry but he don’t looks like a boy, the hair is very feminine, the shirt has a feminine style too.
I don’t have anything against long hair, earrings for men, jewels etc etc etc, but I think long feminine hair for boys is not too appropriate.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
When I first saw that picture I said “She doesn’t have a daughter….”. LOL. That hair is WAY to long for a little boy.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
You all do realize your conceptions of gender are complete stereotypes, right? I mean in reality it’s just a societal construct. Why should “all” boys have shorter hair and “all” girls have longer hair? I find it hilarious that people feel the need to differentiate themselves using benchmarks set by other people. Like when women put those little barrettes in their female baby’s “hair”? LOLOLOLOL. It cracks me up every time I see one.

My husband’s growing his mid length hair out, and its jewish tradition to not cut boys hair till they’re 3, so our son, when we have one, will surely have long hair, but I think my husband would pitch a fit if it got THAT long. My hair’s not even that long!
May 30th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Minus the hair, I think he is the spitting image of his father! I hope their 2nd round of IVF works out.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
“I don’t have anything against long hair, earrings for men, jewels etc etc etc, but I think long feminine hair for boys is not too appropriate.”
Appropriate for whom or what??
May 30th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
For me this kind of hair is not common to see in boys. His hairstyle is not appropriate for his sex.
That’s ok if you see this hair as a normal thing, for me it is not. I would not like to listen somebody said that my son looks like a girl.
I know several hairdressers that arrange those “long hair” for boys, and they surely give a masculine air. not this.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
I think Rene’s hair is just fine. He obviously prefers it this way or it would have been cut. There are more important things going on in the world for us to comment on and chastize than a little boy’s haircut. Give me a break!

I just can’t understand why people still act shocked by long hair on males. I mean, the sixties were forty years ago. We’re now looking at the third generation of men/boys with the option to grow their hair long. I’m willing to bet that most of you guys are children of parents from the hippy generation and grew up with big hair bands. Why are you acting all scandalized now? Been to a junior high lately? Anythings better than those mushroom cuts with the rat tails, which a good portion of your own partners had at some point.
And Christina, ya, I know. And those scrunchie/choking hazard head bands.

I think there’s a fine line between a boy having long hair, and a boy starting to look like a girl. Stereotypes or not, that hair is too long for him. I think he’d be cuter with short hair. Even if they’d cut it just a few inches, it’d be so much better than this hair.
I , too, at first glance thought it was a girl. I had to start reading before I realized it was a boy.
May 30th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
Shmoo – LOL on the headbands. Those are ALMOST worse.
“Too long for him” “he’d be cuter” “it’d be so much better”
I wish you’d all start posting pictures of your children so we could critique the way they look. It’s only fair.
May 30th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
I agree with Rachael. That hair is just too long for a little boy.
May 30th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
My first thought when I saw that pic was who is the little girl. I am not a fan of boy w/ long hair that’s just me…however for some reason I have to say Presley Gerber’s hair doesn’t both me bc it’s cut with the style that males have today. Rene’s hair is just long like a girls with no style (same w/ Ryders new bob). Rene Charles has a feminine look to him so the hair doesn’t look attractive (and once again that’s my personal opinion).
Nonetheless they look happy.

I think he is gorgeous! Love the long hair! I’m not fan of long hair in men, but he’s just stunning! Beautiful blue eyes! Don’t change anything!

First of all I think he looks cute.. and thats a very nice picture of a proud momma with her son… 2nd who are we to say what is or isn’t appropriate. We are not his parents. Celine and Renee are raising their child as they see fit. If little Renee wants to have his hair long then so be it… Having his hair long is not harmful in anyway… As children and adults we all go through different phases of expressing ourself, maybe this is just his way of doing that… I personally don’t see anything wrong with wanting to express your personality or who you are as long as you’re not hurting yourself or others by your action, and clearly in this case he is not.

I don´t care about the long hair. But I think it is a little strange that René lives like Celine (interview in french magazine posted by cassopolis: “René-Charles waits for her until midnight for bed time, doesn’t go to school but his nanny is teaching him classes and he’s playing poker with his dad”) To me it sounds like they are keeping him to themselves and away from the “real world”. If it really is that way, would´nt it also mean that he has only little contact to kids his age? It think this is unhealthy for a 6-year-old child.

ITA, J.M. Longer hair on boys can look good IF it’s cut into a specific style. Presley Gerber’s cut is cute because it’s cut into a shag, which looks stylish and still masculine. This hair is just ugly, imo. It has no style and looks like female hair.
And if people don’t want to see others debating hairstyles, etc. of celebrity children, why are you visiting a blog that posts photos and lets viewers critique what they see?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:11 am
I do think the hair looks it bit odd, and he DOES look like a girl. But the way he wants his hair is really no ones elses business and doesn’t hurt anyone, so who cares!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:47 am
Is it true that Celine Dion hopes to have her son’s twin embryo implanted into her next? I heard she might have said this on Oprah, but I’m not sure if it was a joke.
May 31st, 2007 at 1:45 pm
If it’s true that he really doesn’t go to school but his “nanny teaches him things” and that he waits up for celine and plays poker that this behavior is odd for a 6 year old. But then again some celebs happen to be odd so it’s only natural!
I would hope at six if he’s not in school he’d atleast be properly educated by a tutor not just a nanny (unless she’s certified to teach him). But he lives in Vegas I can’t see him interacting with many other children. Let’s hope he does get somewhat of a normal childhood not sheltered away from the world.

I prefer chin length long hair on boys or at the longest shoulder length..his hair is a bit too long for my taste but he still is such a cute boy.
May 31st, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Good Lord, has it really been six years?! I remember watching a Céline Dion special on VH1 once, where she was talking about how much she and Rene wanted a child. Then I was really pleased for them when I found out she was pregnant… and now he’s a beautiful boy of six! I usually do not advocate long hair on little boys, but it does seem to suit him, it certainly comes from his mother! Although I think he looks so much like his father feature-wise.
June 2nd, 2007 at 4:11 pm
If he went to school, then he’d probably want to get his hair cut like the big boys.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
To Christine,
It may be “gender stereotypes” guiding some of the comments, but the visual reality is that he looks like a girl. It is not the “style” or the length of the hair, but the overall visual effect.
Furthermore, this could create confusion in his socialization with other children, who may confuse him with being a girl. Stereotypes may be just that…stereotypes, but reality is reality.
It seems that many parents, in their determination to wish their children young for as long as possible, often overlook the kind of coddling that is quite obvious going on here between Rene-Charles’ and his Mom and Dad. So many star’s say that they want their children to lead “normal” lives and then spoil their children with an abnormal amount of attention (or in many cases, absence), all in the guize of “nurturing their child’s creativity”, but more often having to do with the fact that they are an only child and the parents are compensating “big time”. This is unhealthy and seems to be “the deal”, as Rene’s Dad plays a hand of poker with him.

I think that Rene-Charles and Celine Dion both look great. More power to you Celine for keeping you sons hair long. KEEP IT Liz

I do not like long hair on boys….mainly because they don’t take proper care of it. He, however, has someone to attend to every need, I would imagine.
Perhaps, he already feels feminine tendencies, and that is why he doesn’t want a haircut.
It sounds as though he has no rules or restrictions in his life. How nice for him. Hope he never has to live in the real world…..he would never know how to cope. I don’t call any of this good parenting. Ah, but the rich and famous can do whatever they want, and call it good.

Celine’s son is absolutely gorgeuos. Undoubtedly girls will fall madly in love with him. His hair is PERFECT with its gold brown color and curled locks. He is SO beautiful especially with his gorgeuos blue eyes. Also his nose is so cute and adorable. Girls will definetely want to marry him and hold his precious body in their arms. If this is the way he looks now, wait until he is a teenager. By then he will be the most beautiful boy in the universe. Celine did a great job. KEEP HIM THAT WAY AND MAKE TONS MORE LIKE HIM! He is SO beautiful!
