Update: Ne-Yo raising ex-girlfriend’s son
Update: Added backstory and entire quote.
Originally posted June 8th: SingerNe-Yo, 27, who has made no secret of how much he enjoys fatherhood, revealshis son Chimere, 20 months, is not biologically his child.Determined for Chimere to have a father in his life, the R&B starvolunteered to raise ex-girlfriend Jessica White’s son ashis own after Chimere’s biological father split.
Now the thing is, I think in this day and age, everybody knows thatblood does not make a father. He’s known no other father but me sincethe day he was born, and though I did not make him, I am his father andhe is my son, and that’s what it is.
Ne-Yo, who was not planning to disclose this information, broke the news during an interview in an attempt to stop a blackmail situation.
There’s something that I need to clear up. Apparently, very soon, there’s going to be some nasty comments beingmade about my son, and my relationship to my son…Basically, somebody’s going to…say that I’m lying about having ason, because he’s not biologically mine. I want to put this out there now before you hear about it.

It’s nice to see a man being a daddy! That baby boy is very lucky to have such a devoted Daddy. DNA doesn’t make you a mommy or a daddy…love and committment does!

Oh wow, that’s so wonderful to hear, especially from someone so young! He could teach some men out there a thing or two. I totally agree with you Melody, love and commitment makes you a father, not a teaspoon full of DNA. Kudos to Ne-yo!

Way to step up and be a stunning example of fatherhood! Happy Fathers’ Day, Ne-Yo – you earned your title!

Righteous dude! Hurrah! Warms my heart when I hear about men loving babies and stepping up to be a dad in a child’s life.

I dont believe it because i always believed that chimere was ne-yo’s son and i don’t believe that chimere is not his but if it is true then i love you more ne-yo for sticking by chimere and i love your music and you ur genuine and honest and a great father. and to jessesca ur a great mother and friend to me love ya. myspace.com/jessecawhite… happy late mothers day and happy fathers day!!

If only they made more guys with his mindset. I know there are others out there like him, and some are fathers and featured on here, but there’s seriously a shortage of men who’d do what he did.

Now THAT’S a man.

Wow! It’s so impressive to see a man stepping up like that. He is a REAL man and that kid is so lucky to have him as a dad rather than the bio-daddy.
June 8th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
WOW. That’s a true hero. And the fact that he’s not even still together with Chimere’s mommy makes it even better. Ne-Yo is not biologically bound to this boy, nor legally or even socially. So many celebrtity fathers complaining about child support, and here’s a man raising a boy who’s not even his, and after he split with the boy’s mom. She could have easily taken her son and raised him on her own, but Ne-Yo did an amazing thing. HERE’S A FATHER FIGURE TO LOOK UP TO.

Wow, I believe Eddie Murphy would do well to take a page from this young man’s book!!
June 9th, 2007 at 2:45 am
Wow…I love his music and now I love him! That is what beyond a real man. Good to see someone of our generation being such a fantastic role model.

What an amazing man! Some men could learn from this man. He’s raising a child who isn’t his and he’s not with the mother anymore! Inspiring.
June 9th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
That is a REAL man!
DNA is not everything and children need two parents (whether they live together or not).
Also, when men or women begin a relationship with someone who has a child, they need to remember that, even if the relationship with the parent ends, they need to respect and maintain the close relationship they formed with the child (assuming one was formed)
Kudos also to his mother for realizing her son needs his daddy even after they broke up.

Okay it’s not as if I didn’t love Ne-Yo already…but when I read this I swear my heart stopped… How rare and honorable this is of him to raise another man’s child… my stepfather has raised me since I was three and I can honestly say that Ne-Yo has already made an inprint in Chimere’s life that will chnage the course of his future…without him that baby boy’s life could have went a completely different route… I am so much more glad to be a huge fan of this talented singer(both of his CD’s are my absolute faves and are GREAT) and songwriter and honorable role model/MAN!!!!

I so agree with all of you. at a time when so many celeb shout “DNA test” when their girlfriend or ex is pregnant, it’s wonderful to see a man who’s understood what fatherhood is all about.

I love stories like this. What a great father and role model.
June 10th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Yes! He totally gets it. Love to hear these stories.

Good for him to stand up for himself. That baby has a father and that is him. It is insane how people reach celebrity status and the little weasles come out to collect money from these stories.
