Reader Mail: Elisabeth
We love getting reader mail (especially when it’s positive). Here’s one email I received from CBB Reader Elisabeth from Ontario, Canada, when I emailed her to let her know she won one of the 25 Bugaboo cupholders we are giving away.
LOVE CBB – it is my one and only escape from being a stay at home mom. I say it is my drug of choice. When I get mad at the hubby or the kids, he says, "Go do your CBB thing and calm down."
What does your husband think about your CBB hobby/addiction?

My fianceé hates it! lol He thinks I’m going to starting angling to have a baby as soon as we get married in August.
I do want kids sooner than later but I don’t want to be going back to school pregnant!

My Hubby thinks it’s great, he say’s it’s my little bit of therapy.

Hubby thinks it’s funny. Until one day I told him someone was expecting, and he says, “Noooo Waaaay!” He then caught himself and asked why in the world was he excited to hear such news, hahahaha… And I have to agree with Elizabeth, that this is a great escape from everything else when you are a SAHM! Keeps me sane and having fun, just gotta love CBB!! Oh yeah, and I’ve also met a great friend on here, my daughter’s favorite playdate!

My husband always “catches” me reading CBB and says, with a smile, “Any celebrities have babies today?” When I tell him I’m going on the computer, he says, “Catching up on your Celebrity Baby Blog?” He thinks it’s funny. (I’m glad, because I’m on here ALL the time!)

I’m a closet reader. My husband doesn’t know (and wouldn’t care)although I do catch him reading my US Weekly and People. He has his poker games and I have my CBB.

My husband thinks it’s funny and my sister loves it because I keep her updated on celebrity babies and their parents! And it’s a great escape whether you’re a working OR stay at home mom!

My fiance thinks it’s hysterical that I’m so addicted to this site. My (male) boss at work also thinks it’s funny that he always catches me on it, even if it does get me in a bit of trouble.
And Danielle, my kudos to you – this is a fantastic, well-maintained site that aims to provide a neutral point of view, and allows readers to make their own calls, which I love. It’s always interesting to hear other moms’ opinions on babies and motherhood!
Plus, who can resist a tiny bit of celebrity gossip thrown in?
June 14th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Lol. Whenever my husband sees me on the computer, he asks, “Looking at famous babies?”
Sometimes I’m not, but most of the time I am. He thinks it’s funny and sneaks a peek over my shoulder if it’s a celebrity he’s interested in.
I love the site, and I’ve gotten my sister hooked on it too (she, liking all things British, likes the celebs across the pond).
My boss also thinks it’s funny and likes to “show off” my celeb baby knowledge to others around the office. He says if he were ever on a game show, he would use me as his celebrity baby phone-a-friend.

My hubby really doesn’t mind it. I am always feeding him celebrity baby gossip, lol. Sometimes you feature actors he likes so I always love keeping him up to date on his favorites (Will Ferrell for example). THANK YOU!

I just wonder why it is that we care so much about celebrities and their kids? Maybe we should also question our obsession! LOL

My husband watches the news in the morning and he will try to give me the *breaking news* on the newest celebrity birth. I will say “I know I read it on celebrity baby blog last night.” I love this site and want to thank Danielle and all the others for this great site!

This is so hilarious!!! I too often get “caught” reading CBB. When we come home after a trip or a long outing, I always run to the computer to catch up, and my husband teases me a little. “Have to find out what the celebrity babies are up to?” And yet, I too have caught him reading it. He claims it is because I left the computer open to the sight, but he scrolls down all on his own!! LOL!!

I don’t have a husband yet, but to reply J.M.’s comment, as of me, I just like watching people, especially children. We also do it on the street, but I think it’s quite disturbing when they look back. So that’s what celebs are made for, for us to feel free watching them, and they only get mad at the paparazzi, not us. Althougt, it does give you a fake picture of life, because only a few per cents of the human beings are so rich and famous. But they don’t work harder then ourselves-and they always say it’s a lot of fun-, but the difference is that they get a huge amount of money for that, and we usually don’t, because most people spend more money on enjoyable things-that celebrities create- than useful ones-that we work on generally-. So as it’s said “In every plus there’s a minus”, their minus is to be pictured all the time-but they also have enough money and people to be photo-op ready in every second-, and I think we all know the plus side.

I joke that it’s my secret shame and my husband plays along. He pretends he’s shocked when he catches me, like I’ve been viewing porn. “Honey, it’s only 9am, couldn’t you wait till after dark!”
On a more serious note, he thinks CBB probably drives my desire to have a baby. I say it’s the other way round and my desire to have a baby drives me to CBB.
I love that it’s a site with the philosophy “do no harm”. Too many other celeb sites leave me with a sleazy dirty feeling. I like that there are limits and you treat the celebs and their kids respectfully.

HAHA! Great question, Danielle! Well, Joe (my b/f) thinks its a little odd that I enjoy gettin update on pregnant celebs and celebrity babies. However, he does sometimes check out a few of the posts on celebrities he’s interested (if I have my laptop on the couch next to him!). For example, we both love Penn & Teller, so he was rather happy to read the direct interview conducted between you and Penn that was posted yesterday. I pondered onto CBB toward the end of 2004 and have been an avid reader now for almost 3 years! Though I hardly ever post so you would never have known. I am a fulltime student getting my masters in social work, so this is my great escape!
p.s. Danielle if you have the same ideology as Penn Gillette, we should be friends!
Sarah’s note: I’m getting my MSW too! Starting my second year.

I was recently at a baby shower and one of the games was Guess the Celebrity Baby. There were 12 pictures and I was still done before everyone else got their lists, babys names and (the non-necessary) parents! The grandmother of the mother-to-be looked over and pointed saying, “I’m on her team. We win.”
I just smiled and thanked CBB for my prize; a beautiful spa package!
