Michael Chiklis happy to be doing kid-friendly work
Michael Chiklis lamented recently one of the few downsides to playing Vic Mackey, the corrupt cop on the critically acclaimed television series The Shield. According to Michael, the show is so violent his children — Odessa, 8 and Autumn, 13 — are forbidden from viewing. That’s just one reason the award-winning actor says he was so excited to participate in the Fantastic Four film series, in which he portrays ‘The Thing.’
I think it’s going to do great, because I don’t care if you’re 8, 18 or 80, it’s a thrill ride, visually stunning, a good story and just right for the early summer. It’s a pleasure to do a movie that my kids can actually see. My kids think the name of my TV show is ‘The Shield, Get Out!’ because we don’t let them watch it.
Despite that rule, Michael’s daughter Autumn plays his daughter on The Shield; Although it seems contradictory at first blush, Michael says Autumn is only allowed to view the scenes in which she is a part.
The Shield is grossly inappropriate for someone her age. At some point she’ll get to see it, but with me and at a time when I think she can process it. And that’ll be longer than the average person because there’s the added thing of having to see her father in that context.

i LOVE the shield…however, i do not think his daughter would have gotten that role had she not been his daughter…she is not that great of an actress at all:(

LOVE the Shield, however, i strongly doubt that his daughter would have been cast, if not for the fact that she is, his daughter.
she is one of the worst ‘child’ actors i have ever seen.

Sounds like a great dad to me — too many folks want to be their kid’s friend, not their parent. I’ve always like Michael and like him even more now.
