Kevin James can’t spread the love, rags on Sesame Street
When Kevin James found out he and his wife Steffiana De La Cruz wereexpecting a second child, Shea Joelle, now 4 weeks, he, like mostparents, questioned whether he’d be able to love her as much as hisfirst child, Sienna-Marie, 21 months. The actor jokes with Conan O’Brien onLate Night that he was surprised at his reaction.
I had [Sienna] and you think this is the only child you’regonna love and the fact that you’re having another one, you don’t thinkyou’ll be able to love it as much. But they say you adjust and it’samazing how you love your kids equally. And it’s not true. I don’t carefor the second one as much. I wanna feel the love. I can’t fake itanymore either. I don’t know what to do. Don’t feel bad – we’re gonnahave another baby, so this one has another to play with. I’m sensitiveto it.
As he mentioned on Letterman, becoming a parent the secondtime is not as intense as the first. Kevin, 42, kept a close watch onnurses whenever they came by to pick up Sienna, but such was not thecase with Shea.
You kinda slack off a little bit. The nurse comes in, youdon’t care. Literally a janitor stopped by and was like, ‘I’m justgonna take the kid.’ I’m like, ‘Sure, go ahead. Clean her up. Justbring her back when you’re done. That’ll be fine. No problem at all.’
Having two kids now has made their household even more messyand hectic, forcing Steffiana to draft a new house rule, much to Kevin’sdisdain.
It is a little crazy because she’s starting to makerules with the two kids that they’re going to be crawling around thehouse and stuff and she made a rule of – and this kind of annoyed me -no shoes around the house. It’s so annoying because she makes meenforce the rule too. ‘Oh, look at the movers. Can you ask ‘em to taketheir shoes off?’ And these guys are big guys and they’re moving stuff. And you know what, you make the rule, so you enforce the damn thing.
In between asking guests to take off their shoes, Kevin spends much ofhis time watching Sesame Street with his kids. And while he loves theshow – he’s recently shot an episode – the I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry star does have one chiefcomplaint.
They repeat a lot and that really pisses me offbecause I’m just waiting for new episodes of Sesame Street to come out. It’s like The Sopranos – C’mon! Turn it over! Do something! Then yousee one and you’re excited and you think it’s gonna be a new one andyou’re like, ‘Near and far again! That’s what it is – near and far! Isaw this 100 times.’ I loved it the first time, but c’mon, keep megoing here.

I have to agree with him about the Sesame Street repeats. I LOVE Sesame Street–I think it’s one of the only children’s shows that’s made to be equally entertaining for parents and kids–but I hate that it seems like they show the same 15-20 episodes all year long on a daily basis. While I don’t mind a few repeats, I wish they’d mix it up some and use their older stuff. The show’s been on for forty years—-they’re bound to have a large enough catalog of episodes to have a better mix of repeats.

I hope everyone realizes Kevin’s comments about his second child are satirical. No one is serious on Conan’s show. After all, it’s the home of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
Sarah’s note: We hope people realize that too! That would be funny if someone thought he was serious. I’m going to add a ‘jokes’ in there just in case.

I still see episodes of Sesame Street that I remember from when I was 2.

I for one can tell that he’s joking, but I’m surprised that nobody has jumped down his throat for those comments, whereas everyone jumped down Angelina Jolie’s throat for calling Shiloh a blob. My “double standard” radar is starting to pick up something here…..

He reminds me of my dad! My dad is such a jokester and is always really funny about us kids. I was his second and he always jokes that I was like this whiney little kid and he didnt even really like me till I was older…we are super close and actually I am closest to him and so I always crack up at his sarcasm since I inherited it but I think its all in good fun to poke fun at having a second child. Men are different then women I think where they love their kids but dont always get right into it like women do. Not all men of course but I have heard alot of men just say they loved their babies but didn’t really get into the fun of it till they were walking and talking. I dont know I am rambling but I think men like that are funny and think his kids are going to have a good time growing up like I did with my dad. My dad also has two girls so I wonder when the little one will get the jokes about him wanting a boy, thats the big one with my dad. He always joked he wanted a boy but the cute part was he would always tell me in all seriousness Bren I really am glad you are a girl. Aw this is making me sentimental lol

The only thing that annoys me more than Sesame Street repeats is repeats of The Wonder Pets. There is so much you can take of watching the same thing over and over! I’m trying to get Anya interested in other shows just so we can vary it.
Right now she’s into The Signing Times DVDs (which she calls “play play” because of the theme song) and I recorded Shrek on our DVR the other day, but if I have to watch the Wonder Pets rescue the baby panda one more time I’m going to lose it!

LOL…Danielle. You are too funny. For me its the save the tree episode…ARG!!!!!!! Why dont they just make some new ones already. Miss G is so in love with Ruby and Max on Nick jr and her all time FAVORITE movie is Shrek. Anya should fall in love with it. But Sesame Street…not so much here. Never have cared for it.
