Dylan and Carys Douglas are spoiled – by their grandparents
Catherine Zeta-Jones may not want to spoil her kids, but that won’t stop her parents from doing so. The No Reservations star tells David Letterman on The Late Show that when it comes to grandma and grandpa, Dylan, 6, and Carys, 4, can get whatever they want.
My kids have been with my parents in Wales [this summer], getting spoiled. They love it. Me and Michael [Douglas] are not allowed to go there because they get spoiled rotten and it takes me three weeks to try to get them back to normal.
Besides multiple visits to Wales, Catherine, 37, makes sure her kids know about their mom’s heritage by teaching them Welsh.
I try to instill the Welsh in the kids. They don’t speak fluent Welsh, but they know ‘Jingle Bells’ in Welsh. And they know their bellybutton is called a ‘boogal.’
However, not everyone knows that.
If I’m late coming home from work, I call them and say, ‘When you’re asleep, mama is going to come in and kiss your boogal.’ They say, ‘Oh no, mama, not the boogal! Not the boogal!’ Sometimes I speak it on the phone in front of people and I think I’m gonna be arrested – kissing their boogals while they’re sleeping.

That’s pretty funny, lol. My dad’s family immigrated from Wales so I’m trying really hard to learn the language. It isn’t easy!

Does anyone know how to pronounce Carys? I’m just curious.
Sarah’s note: Care-iss.

I am Welsh myself and Live only a few miles from where her parents live. I think its great that the children are learning welsh, once you pick up a few words the rest comes easily.
Well done! Keep the Welsh Lingo. Going!

Technically in Welsh, the name Carys would be pronounced “Cuh-reese.” But I think she pronounces it the more Americanized/English way which is Care-iss.

I can appreciate the lovely image of family that this couple projects. It is impossible, however, to forget that this woman smoked while 8 months pregnant with her daughter; she was able to suppress almost all websites from publishing the photographs. So the fact remains that Catherine Zeta-Jones was undeniably less interested in her baby’s health than she should have been while pregnant.

Cute story, and her kids are adorable.

Reply to Ash- ‘Carys’ isn’t pronounced ‘Cuh-reese’ (least not where I’m from!), it’s really just as it looks: Ka-riss.
In an American accent it would, as Sarah said, sound more like Care-iss, although I hope Catherine herself doesn’t pronounce it that way… I know she’s virtually lost her accent, but I do hope she still pronounces Welsh names/words properly.

By the way, does anyone know if Catherine is actually fluent in Welsh? (I’ve read opposing answers.) I presume not as she’s from Swansea (not many people speak fluently in the South), and because her accent would probably still be a lot thicker otherwise… But am merely curious!
