Having a child keeps Colin Meloy grounded
Rocker Colin Meloy, 32, frontman of the Decemberists, and his longtime girlfriend, artist Carson Ellis, welcomed son Henry, now 17 months, as the indie band was beginning its upward climb into the music world.
When asked if being a dad to Hank, as they call him, ‘gets in the way of being a rock star,’ Colin replies,
If anything, I think it all makes a little more sense with him around. It keeps me grounded.

sigh – i love this band so much. i think my baby will probably (hopefully?) be born knowing the lyrics to most of their songs

Meghan, it’s so funny you should say that. The first time I felt my son kick, I was listening to “The Sporting Life.” I jokingly said, “Kick if you’re a boy.” And he kicked.
