Green Edition Orbit Baby Bassinet/Pram Coming This Fall
Orbit Baby is coming out with an eco-friendly green edition of their Bassinet/Pram this fall. This bassinet/pram’s fabric is made of all natural fibers without chemical treatments, a organic cotton interior (that is so soft for baby), and an attractive wool exterior. It is also 100% PVC free and the packaging is made from 100% recycled materials. The matching cargo pod (their version of an underneath basket) is made of the same all natural fibers. It slides in and out easily and is perfect for grabbing, when you stash your stroller on a plane or in a place where you can’t get to it quickly. They will also be donating a portion of the proceeds to The Nature Conservatory.
Orbit Baby has designed their Stroller System to reduce the amount of gear you need. The infant car seat and bassinet/prams can be taken inside and fit onto the rocker base (so you won’t need a separate bassinet or rocker). They will also be coming out with a toddler car seat (they already have a toddler stroller seat). The infant car seat base will be compatible with the toddler car seat.
If you already own a Orbit System or are considering buying one, their new rain shield is 100% PVC free (the first we’ve seen on on the market). It doesn’t have that awful chemical smell and is much better for your baby. No, it’s not as clear as your typical rain shield, but to give up PVC, I can deal with that. The company also says "We are committed to being the first baby gear company to rid our supply chain of PVC, chrome-plating, and oil based packaging inks, along with deletions of reductions in a host of other bad-for-us, and bad-for-our-world, chemicals and materials."
Orbit Baby is also introducing a product recycling program, so if you can’t give (or sell) your outgrown Orbit Baby product away, the company will recycle it for you. Very smart idea, and as of press time, I have only heard about one other stroller company that does that. For more information on how Orbit Baby is going green, click here.
Also, later this fall, Orbit Baby will also be introducing a limited edition Paul Smith designed fabric for their Orbit Bassinet Cradle with Cargo Pod. The gorgeous maroon, green and cream striped bassinet will be a hit with the VIPs. Owner Joseph Hei also told me that Orbit Baby will also be coming out with a toddler car seat to fit into their car seat base later in the year.
Even just this week, several celebs were spotting with their babies in Orbit Baby Car seats/Travel Systems. Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott were seen in NYC with baby Liam in his Orbit Baby Travel System - click the TMZ Video link. Marcia Cross and husband Tom Mahoney were seen out at a park with twins Eden and Savannah – see the Orbit Baby Travel System in the background of the first photo.

I just received my orbit ‘green’ bassinet – and I post this as a warning!!!! The mattress pad that comes with this bassinet is made of polyether and a bund of other synthetic foams. The mattress is a nasty toxic smelling pad that is covered with organic cotton. Shame on Orbit for marketing their bassinet as green and organic. They simply added an organic cotton cover and charged $450 more. DO NOT BE FOOLED – this is NOT an organic product. I am going to return mine because the mattress smells awful and actuall gave me a headache when I sniffed it up close!
