Pregnancy next up for Kelly Preston
John Travolta and
Kelly Preston have made
no secret about the fact that they would like to give
Jett, 15, and
Ella Bleu, 7, a younger sibling. The 44-year-old actress, currently shooting
Old Dogs with her husband and daughter, now hints that would definitely be their next joint production.
I thought I would get pregnant when Ella was about 4. Then I wanted to work a little bit more, and all of a sudden she’s 7. I’m not pregnant now, but I don’t have another movie project [lined up]; that’s all I’ll say.
And if and when Kelly does get pregnant, expect her to embrace it completely.
I love everything about it. You’re treated like a princess and your husband pampers you every minute!
As for the present, Kelly says she’s having "the best time" working with John and Ella.
It’s the perfect summer: going to work and laughing as a family.

She’s 44 years old. The chances of conceiving a child at her age even with IVF (at even the best centers) is only around 8% at most.
She’ll probably have to use a donor egg with those odds unless she gets really lucky.
Also, I’ve heard that doing IVF treatments in your 40’s could put you at risk for breast, ovarian or even lung cancer. My father’s a researcher and he says that some new studies are finding this as a possible link.

How can she be so breezy about getting pregnant at her age?? I’m not saying it’s not possible, but she makes no mention of the fact that it may not happen. She’s being all coy about it, like it’s a done deal. Are they planning on adopting? That’s the only sure thing at her age.
Pregnancy doesn’t always happen easily/at all for women ten years younger than she is. Is this some kind of Hollywood mentality that they all think they have superhuman ovaries? I remember when Madonna was 47 and mentioned something about having fertility problems…um…it’s called PERI-MENOPAUSE!
I hope Kelly can get pregnant naturally or with fertility treatments (with or w/o donor eggs). I can understand the desire for her to want kids at her age and I wish women had a longer fertility term. I only get annoyed at these statements because it really does make the average woman think she has until 50 to try for a baby. At least Marcia Cross has the decency to be honest and not give women false hope about a natural conception in your mid-40’s. Sorry for the rant – just a pet peeve of mine!
August 24th, 2007 at 2:13 am
If this is true, Kelly will be 62-years-old at her child’s high school graduation…the same age my grandmother was at mine.
Plus, a newborn, a 7-year-old, and a teenager? Just typing that made me exhausted.
August 24th, 2007 at 2:19 am
WOW again with the age factors. Who knows she could be pretty fertile. Not all women who are over 40 need help. Sure it’s harder but not all of them need help. Why are people so negative. Big deal your daddy is a researcher but guess what even they can get it wrong.
August 24th, 2007 at 2:28 am
I don’t think so. Women did get pregnant at their 40s back when contraception wasn’t avaliable. Me thinks you have studied it a bit too much. 8%? Haha you can’t use that, no 2 women are the same. Besides Kelly is wealthy and I think she has been taking as good care of herself as possible over the years, so her body is probably still in good enough shape to have a baby. I say good luck to her and may she have a healthy child. I am more worried if that child will suffer the same faith < --- as his/her brother. *sigh*

that is true abuot her age but i think that family should just get bigger and beautiful! jett is a lovely lad, ella is a little star and kelly is so sweet …as for john… i wont comment but im happy that they’re gonna have another

I have an aunt that conceived her only girl at age 45 naturally on the first try so it is possible! I just wanted to say though…not all husbands embrace their wife’s pregnancy. My ex was a jerk throughout both of mine, called me a whale and was a no show for ultrasounds and doctors appointments. And, he sure didn’t “pamper” me or treat me like a princess!
That said, I hope she is successful.

Kate, you took the (most) of the words right out of my mouth. I just don’t get it with actresses that that would put their bodies and unborn babies at risk by waiting, waiting, waiting due to career CHOICES. This has become a REAL pet peeve to me. On another note, Ella looks so big in that pic. She sure is John’s girl!

It’s possible to get pregnant in your forties NATURALLY, my grandmother gave birth to my Uncle when she was 43, way back when. Those statistics aren’t 100% correct, because most people in their forties are trying to AVOID getting pregnant and the statistics are based on them.Children are a blessing, no matter what how old you are. I say go for it Kelly, and Good Luck!
August 24th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Hey, my own mom was 43 when she had me, and she didn’t use any donor or anything, she wasn’t even trying to get pregnant. lol they already had 8 other kids. And she’ll be 61 when I graduate this spring and I have no problem with that, she’s getting older but that doesn’t mean she’s not a good mom.
August 24th, 2007 at 8:28 am
I’m the same age as Kelly but I would have had all my children before 44/45 — who cares about the acting career — and have the kids while I’m still able. She has enough money, so it’s not like she had to work before she tried to have a third child. I read somewhere last week on the cover of a tabloid in the store I think, that she wants twins, but I don’t know how true that is.
August 24th, 2007 at 8:33 am
Fertility is an iffy thing. Yes, your statistic is correct, but that also leaves room for uber-fertile people, like my high school english teacher who got pregnant at age 48 with her third child. Her other 2 children were 26 and 24. She and her husband thought that because of her age she was in the “safe zone” for not using BC once in a while and they were pleaseantly surprised.
Yes, it’s possible, but it is SUH-HO much harder on your body. Why don’t they just adopt? There are so many kids who need a loving family, and they certainly have the means. They’d still have the delight of rearing a child without the exhaustion of a later in life pregnancy. Just my opinion.
August 24th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Although I have always been a big fan of John’s, this recent talk of another pregnancy and child by him and Kelly, reeks of jumping on the celeb baby wagon to me. And, they could adopt. If they had really, sincerely wanted a bigger family, they could have done it years ago. ‘Afraid I question the motives here..hope it would all go well, though.

It seems there are two Kates posting, so I guess I’ll go by Kate2 to cut down on the confusion.
I don’t understand why so many people say that the celebs should be more honest about fertility issues so they don’t “give false hope or send the wrong message to other women.” It’s not the responsibility of the celebrities to send us the right message, or give us hope, or give us medical advice. It is the responsibility of the public to seek out medical advice from their doctors and other credible sources and not look to celebrities for medical information. Blindly believing something just because a celebrity does it is the kind of behavoir I would expect from children, not from grown women.
August 24th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Have they addressed Jett’s rumored autism diagnosis?
August 24th, 2007 at 10:57 am
She could could be one of those woman that is very fertile, actually doctors will say when women are in their around menopause stage and think they are in the clear, sometimes they get pregnant. My grandmother’s sister gave birth to her 4th child at 43, and she had no problems getting pregnant. My mom’s friend had 4 kids and wasn’t planning anymore, and surprise at 44, had her 5th child. And a lady at my gym was 43 and had a 21 yr old and 18yr old, and found herself pregnant with her 3rd baby. Than you have women that can be 32 and have problems getting pregnant, it’s not all about age, sometimes some people have more problems than others getting and staying pregnant. If they have anther baby congrats to them, although Kelly will be 45 in 2 months and by the time she gets pregnant, she will be close to 46, a bit too old for me, but to each is own. If I was her I would have tired at least 2-3 yrs ago if I knew I wanted a 3rd child, but best of luck to them.
August 24th, 2007 at 10:59 am
Well….if persistant rumours are to be believed then the baby will be more than likely be conceived via IVF. Probably any other way rather than the old fashioned way. John has his life and Kelly has hers (allegedly).
Also, the baby talks starts up again every time the John is gay/bisexual rumours circulate.
August 24th, 2007 at 11:22 am
I don’t see a problem at all about Kelly getting pregnant again, even though she’s in her forties. Just because someone is having a baby at a later age doesn’t mean that they WILL go through complications like some people say. Not saying that there won’t be complications because it can still happen, but still, I think it’s still fine to have a baby at a later age. Nadia Comaneci, and Marcia Cross had their children at a late age and they were fine. Nancy Grace is almost 49 years old and she’s expecting twins this winter, and so far she’s doing well. Even Adriana Iliecsu didn’t have any issues with her pregnancy and she gave birth to her daughter at age 66!! So what’s the problem about Kelly getting pregnant? I don’t see anything wrong with it, and if she does add one more addition to her family, it would be wonderful.
August 24th, 2007 at 11:36 am
They just don’t stop talking about it! We’ve been hearing this for months. Great, have a baby already!
August 24th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
Kate 2
It’s not the responsibility of celebrities to teach us about fertility, but you cannot deny that they have an influence on the general population–from what we wear, to our hair and how we view our bodies. even a quasi-celebrity like Alexis Stewart said she was influenced by all the famous people having babies in their 40’s and thought she had all the time in the world to wait, because of this.
I just think it’s irresponsible advertising. I don’t care who gets pregnant when, but Kelly is obviously giving out interviews regarding having a baby and I find the self-delusion or obscuring the truth about fertility offensive. Why can’t she just go about her business and get pregnant and when she has an announcement she can make it? She doesn’t have a movie out right now, so the only reason we’re even hearing from her right now is because she wants attention.
Also, I understand she loves acting, but I honestly cannot remember one film she’s made since Jerry McGuire. It’s not like her career is so red-hot she couldn’t have taken a year off to have another baby if she really wanted to. It’s just so odd.
August 24th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
“As for the present, Kelly says she’s having “the best time” working with John and Ella”
All I can say is poor Jett… That poor kid! I’m sure they love their child, but when religious “beliefs” get in the way of talking about your family, especially when you could help other families, well it just makes me sad.
August 24th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Nicolie, a newborn, a 7 yr old, and a teenager?? Whats wrong with that??? I have an 18 yr old daughter and a 17 yr old autistic and mentally challenged son and we would LOVE to have another. I am 38. My aunt’s boys were all grown, the youngest being about 20 when she had her much wanted daughter finally at 45. I don’t see anything wrong with it! The only thing is the possible fertility issues, but ya never know, Kelly may just wind up being really lucky!
August 24th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
I don’t really care one way or another if John and Kelly did have another child. Her children are gorgeous so why not.
However with that being said I still think the whole “have another baby to get our prince” statement has already made me come to my conclusion that they want a “normal” child and not a son with a “disorder.”
I think another child is just trying to fill the void in their lives. And do they understand that if she gets pregnant naturally that the risk of autism and other deformities increase drastically? Do they want to risk that knowing what they already have and don’t seem to be okay with as it is? I mean my mom’s friend was 43 and got pregnant naturally with her “new” 54 year old husband but when she went for testing she was told the baby would be down syndrome. She decided to still have her child and thankfully she wasn’t downs but she was born w/ autism. She took a risk and now today, with no regrets, she’s still trying to manage being an older mom with a husband who no longer in the picture and an autistic daughter. Granted if Kelly and John did have a child that was born with some birth defect they would be able to take care of it. But it’s a risk to put yourself and this child through. Sometimes people just don’t think so much before they leap.
August 24th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
i didn’t know they had a 15 year old….
August 24th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
I wonder if the chances are different if you’ve already had children.
I have no idea if this bears out statistically, but it seems like if you’ve already had children, your body might be more able to get pregnant easier at an older age than if you were trying for the first time.
As for keeping in shape, I don’t think ovaries work like that : )
August 24th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Just to be perfectly clear… it’s not that she’s OLDER, but if she wants to use her own eggs (and hasn’t frozen any) the RISKS are so much greater. I don’t care if she’s 50 years old and wants to have another baby, that doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. J.M. please tell me she did NOT ACTUALLY make that comment about the “little prince”. If that is true….*shakes head*
August 24th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
PSB: I think the irresponsiblity lies with the people who chose to LET the celebrities influence how they live or what they believe.
I don’t base any part of my life on what celebrities are doing. And if someone choses to let them influence how they live then it’s their own fault for being so easily influenced, not the fault of the celebrity.
August 24th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Campbell, Kelly didn’t make that comment, John did if I remember correctly. And yes that comment made me speechless, I couldn’t believe a parent could say that.
And Mousie I didn’t mean ovaries, but the body.
August 24th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Kate, you are absolutely right. I am not arguing about that – if people want to make uninformed decisions about pregnancy, it’s their own problem.
I just think that a person in the spotlight needs to have some sort of integrity when they make statements like this. They didn’t ask to be role models, but they are – a moral individual wields that power to bring attention to issues (the way Marcia Cross talked about donor eggs – w/out ever confirming what she herself did). Nobody is obligated to tell the truth, but I have no respect for celebs who do not – unless they are private individuals who are not commenting on their tries to conceive at all.
Just tell the truth or keep it to yourself. I feel the same way about plastic surgery – either don’t comment or say you had a face lift. Telling everybody within ear reach that you age well without help is kind of annoying.
It’s similar to the whole Nancy Grace debate – the educated few who have read up on fertility know that she must have used some help at her age, but I’m still annoyed that she is choosing to allow the majority of the world to think she got pregnant naturally. For somebody, especially in Nancy Grace’s position as a pundit and news source, it’s very disingenuous.
I’m sure people will disagree with me, but that’s what makes the world interesting
August 25th, 2007 at 9:21 am
personally, I like when celebs are open about their fertility issues(as in Kelly Coffey and Marcia Cross), BUT I do not think they HAVE TO BE! It is a personal decision and its really nobody’s business in the end. I identify with anyone going through infertility or miscarriages and celebs being open about it is refreshing, but we shouldn’t expect them to be if they choose to keep it private. That is their perogative.
August 25th, 2007 at 11:28 am
PSB: I know that children often look to celebrities as role models. But I would expect better than that from adults. Adults should have a strong enough sense of self that they can form their own view of life and the world without having to look to a celebrity as an example. I don’t think it’s fair to expect the celebrities to censor themselves in order to accomodate the members of the public who don’t have a strong enough sense of self to form their own opinions about things.
I also think it’s unfair to expect the celebs to censor themselves about certain topics when the rest of us are free to express whatever we want to without someone saying “You don’t have a right to say that because you’re setting a bad example.” I think celebrities deserve the same freedom. Afterall, here we all are on a public blog stating our opinions for all the world to read and none of us are having to censor ourselves because we “might set a bad example for someone else.” We’re free to spout off any opinions/thoughts we want to on here (respectfully of course) even if our opinions have no basis on fact, even if our comments are filled with bad advice, and even if we make statements about what worked for us that wouldn’t work for other people. And it’s up to each individual who reads the comments to decide whether they want to take that advice or believe that person’s opinions. I don’t sit around and worry if my comments are going to send someone else “the wrong message” and I doubt that the other people who post on here do either. So how can we expect more of others than we do of ourselves? It doesn’t seem fair to me.
August 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
It really shocks me how open they are about this, Regardless of age I don’t think I would be so open about this because it isn’t a given. And being older it is very less likely. Its her right but I just don’t understand telling the whole world about something so personal.
August 25th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
If she is trying to get pregnant why should she mention all the things that are going against her…. Why does she need all that negative energy?!! Goodness, you should always hope for the best and try to maintain a positive attitude towards everything! It’s not irresponsible at all! What’s irresponsible is to base YOUR life on a celebrity; that’s just ridiculous!! Yes, clothes and things of that sort are influenced by celebrities but you should not be making REAL LIFE ALTERING decisions base on a celebrities’ influence.
August 25th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
**Have they addressed Jett’s rumored autism diagnosis?**
Bears repeating.
I guess this is how they plan to “address” it. By attempting to have a “normal” son.
Yet at Kelly’s advanced age, she had better proceed with caution. The chance of her having a child with a genetic defect is much greater now than it was when she was younger.
It’s as if Jett doesn’t really exist. We caught a glimpse of him recently. But thats about it. They just tuck him away as if he doesn’t exist. Very sad.
August 26th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
is it possible they are so confident because they harvested her eggs affter Ella was born?
After all, she said she was originally planning to get pg 3 yrs ago… the way she makes it sound is that it’s like scheduling an appt…. like she knows it won’t be hard.
if she harvested her eggs and her uterus is in good health, that would explain it.
