Introducing Gable Ness Nealon

Kevinnealon284_cbbWeeds and former SNL star Kevin Nealon, 53, and his wife Susan Yeagley, 36, introduce their son Gable Ness, 7 months, in this week’s issue of People.

Click below for the photos and interview highlights, including the origins of Gable’s name, Kevin’s prior adoption plans, and what Susan says is ‘the best secret out there.’

Coming together for the kids: Discussing children is how Kevin gauged his interest in Susan when they first met. The usually playful comedian becomes serious when relating the story.

[We were having our makeup done for a pilot we taped in 2002.]I had been thinking loosely about adopting a child one day if I wassingle much longer. You don’t hear much about single men adopting, andI was wondering aloud what the deal was. Maybe subconsciously, I wasputting feelers out to see if she was interested.

Obviously, she was.

On pregnancy weight: Susan reveals I gained 28 lbs, he gained 30‘ during the pregnancy. Kevin explains, ‘It was maybe 60 percent sympathy, 30 percent stress, 8 percent nerves, and 2 percent hunger. And I’m still gaining.’

On becoming a first-time father at age 53: I always knew that I was meant to be a father. [Before], the time was never right, and the person was never right. Now that I am one, all the pieces are coming together. It feels really right.

If I were younger, I would feel like I needed to be at the comedy club or out with friends. Now, at 9 o’clock on Saturday night, I want to go to bed.

On baby Nealon’s name: ‘We saw a poster at Kinko’s of Clark Gable.’

Not always so funny: Susan sighs, ‘Having a baby with a comedian husband is an experience.‘ But she confides, ‘Marrying a man [17 years older] is the best secret out there. He’s been around; he’s seen a lot. He’s committed to marriage and parenting, and it’s a blast.’

Hands-on dad: Although Kevin has joked about totally handing off Gable to daycare and nannies, Susan says just the opposite is true. ‘Kevin is a completely hands-on dad. It’s incredible. He does diapers, he gets up. I feel so lucky.’

Future plans: If Gable wants to follow his namesake and act, he can, says Susan. ‘Our job is to find out what he’s passionate about and push him toward that.’ ‘And then ride his coattails!,’ Kevin chimes in.

I met kevin, Susan and there beautiful son Gable today in Sydney(Australia)at the Zoo. My daughter gave him endless hugs and kisses and found him as adorable as I did.
