"My baby self weaned despite me trying to keep up the nursing! I find it so refreshing to hear Gwen talk about how hard she works to lose weight and keep herself in top shape. She looks great and has a beautiful family."

“I sit there and play princesses with my daughter, and I never told her anything about a princess, ever. Whereas I go to my brother’s house, and he’s got two boys…I walk in the front door, and I instantly get punched in the nuts.”

Nancy O’Dell hopes to keep lines of communication open with her kids

When it comes to parenting, Nancy O’Dell says she needs to look no further than her own mom and dad for an example of how to do it right.  In a new interview with ModernMom.com, Nancy singled out the way her parents made her feel as if she could always tell them anything as the most important lesson she’d like to impart to her 11-week-old daughter Ashby, as well as step-sons Tyler, 12, and Carson, 8, with husband Keith Zubchevich.

I honestly feel that’s why I never got into any trouble at a young age…I want to teach my children the art of communicating as well — asking questions, talking about their feelings instead of acting out…There was never a moment in my life when I ever felt [my parents] weren’t there for me. I always felt tremendous love from them. I wish they could write a book on parenting because I would study every chapter!

Calling Ashby her "greatest achievement," Nancy said she also believes creating an environment of unconditional love is important for a child’s developing sense of self-esteem.

I also want them to feel so much love. I want to teach them security — to always known that their parents will be there for them no matter what. That makes for more confident individuals, now and as they grow up.

Nancy is gearing up to host the red carpet arrivals at the Emmy Awards in a little over one week, and credits jogging and breastfeeding for her return to pre-baby form.  As her maternity leave ends the Access Hollywood host says that despite the glamour surrounding her job, her motto remains "always put your family first."

Trust me, your boss will respect you more for it and that’s a good thing at work. Also, you will feel better about yourself and that makes for a better employee. Someone who feels guilty because they know their priorities are mixed up won’t be at their most efficient.
