"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Barack Obama’s young daughter is not a Paris Hilton fan

Tags: Dads

During an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show, 2008 presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama discussed how his nine-year old daughter, Malia, keeps up with news. Apparently the well-informed child doesn’t approve of Paris Hilton; Barack said Malia doesn’t care to stay at Hilton hotels when they travel because of the socialite’s bad reputation. Malia often asks during check in:

This isn’t a Hilton hotel, is it?

Barack, 46, and wife Michelle, 43, strive to give their children, Malia and her sister, Sasha, 6, strong role models.

Parents have to realize, kids want limits, they want structure. They don’t want you to be their best friend. They want you to be the parent. If we had more parenting, then the kinds of influences we see on television don’t matter.

Barack quickly admitted Michelle is the disciplinarian.

They know that no one has it more together than their mom.

    Good for Malia. :)

And I do agree with him on the better parenting comment. Then of course, it might be moot if the parents are busy trying to ride coattails and make a name for themselves, forsaking their own child who might need them to be that mother or father to them. Or, the children are so far gone that they don’t want help from them. And I won’t name names…

  2. KRM Says:

I think it’s terrific that they’re aiming to give their children positive role models, and I know how trendy it is to bash Paris, but that comment just sounds more than a little judgemental. I really doubt that at nine years old, she fully understands what a bad reputation means. But hey, not my kids so whatever. Lovely family, great guy, love it when candidates talk about their families.

  3. Malia Says:

Just to let everyone know… That Malia means Mary in Hawaiian.

so it’s funny that Ohbama daughter has that name…

but anyways.. good for his daughter.

  4. Mousie Says:

Maybe they should let her know that the Hiltons don’t own the hotels anymore, so they don’t need to discriminate : )

  5. J-Lin Says:

Malia – Barack spent most of his youth in Hawaii. I believe his grandfather still lives there. I guess he’s paying homage to his home. I like it.

  6. sinclair Says:

what’s funny about his daughter having the name Malia?

  7. terri Says:

Well, the Hiltons aren’t totally detached from the hotels either.
