"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

Halle Berry talks cravings and clothes

Tags: News, Quotes

Halleberry If you’re miserably entrenched in your first trimester of pregnancy, don’t look to Halle Berry to commiserate with.  The Things We Lost In The Fire star, currently 4-months along with her first child, is experiencing all the ailments typical of women who are newly pregnant — not that she’s complaining.

There is nothing bad about it. The morning sickness and the vomiting and the hot sweats. Nothing’s been bad about it. I’ve loved every second of it.

As for cravings, Halle said her food preferences — including a recent hankering for "hot and spicy pepperoncini" — change daily.  That said, the 41-year-old actress added that she tries "to listen to my body and not overdo it so I don’t become too big."  Since "big" is definitely in her future, however, Halle says she has a fashion plan in place.

I think I feel like I’m such a slave to fashion. It’s a hard concept for me to fathom that I’m going to have to wear maternity clothes.  Everything is up here [empire waist] and shift-y, so I think I can work it out in normal clothes with normal designers in their collections until the eighth or ninth month, then I might have to break down and do maternity.

The baby will also be the first for Halle’s boyfriend, 31-year-old Gabriel Aubry — and from the sound of it, it will not be their last.

My age dictates it.  I need to be ready for more. … Not three, but two would be nice.

I wonder why she’s so averse to maternity clothes. I think they can be stylish – but then again, I’m no Halle Berry. :)

  2. BostonMom Says:

I am very happy for her and think she has a great attitude. BUT I do find that public comments like this from celebrities are what makes it so much harder for the average pregnant woman. Seriously, I don’t think that anyone “loves every second” of being pregnant. There are ups and downs, both physically and emotionally. Reading celeb quotes like this just makes women feel like there must be something wrong with them because they are not loving every minute of the process — for example, not loving throwing up every morning, not loving worrying about the baby’s health, etc. The same goes for celebs who talk about their babies and say that every minute with them is wonderful, bliss, etc. I am a mom of one, soon to be two, and most of my mom friends agree with these notions. It would be refreshing for some celebs to open up about the fact that pregnancy and motherhood can be tough.

Also, I think Halle should lighten up about maternity clothes! If she were truly embracing the process, fitting into designer clothes would be the farthest thing from her mind. She might be in for a big shock when she realizes she can’t wear designer clothes through her 9th month!

This never gets mentioned, but doesn’t Halle have an adopted daughter? I never hear anything about? Actually…I just looked it up on IMDB and it says she adopted he ex, Eric Benét’s daughter India. I wonder if she is still in her life? I also read that Halle has type 1 diabetes…which can be dangerous for an expectant mother…I hope she’ll be ok!

Sarah’s note: I don’t believe Halle ever formally adopted her. I’m not sure what the situation is now.

She seems so happy, good for her.

  5. Daisy Kay Says:

I am so, so happy for this couple, especially Halle. This is going to be a precious baby.

  6. Romie Says:

Why should Halle take responsibilty for all the average pregnant women out there? The woman should be able to express herself freely on her pregnancy.
She has wanted a baby for a long time so If she says she is enjoying being pregnant and everything that comes with it, then she is. I’m sure she’ll work out the maternity clothes issue.
I wish her a happy pregnany till the end.

  7. M Says:

Oh, I don’t think that Halle is trying to paint all of pregnancy as rosy, BostonMom. I mean, I understand what you’re saying, but I think she’s just sooooo excited about finally being pregnant that she’s just trying to explain that. Like, she is so thankful to be pregnant that she’s just decided not to be bothered about the morning sickness and such right now. I’m sure there are lots of non-celebs who have felt that too. :-)

  8. Renee Says:

Good for her! I don’t blame her for being a tad bit worried about maternity wear. For every piece that looks great, the rest look like tents .I’m not shocked someone complain about her not being upset about morning sickness…people get mad at celebs for complaining about the not so great things about being pregnant…but then complain if they don’t complain about it…I wish people would make up their minds.

  9. Crystal Says:

She looks even more gorgeous than usual with that baby bump! I can not wait to see this baby…I think it’s going to be beautiful!

  10. Betsy Says:

I wish Halle all the best in her pregnancy but I would be SOO surprised if she were able to wear designer clothes that were not maternity up until her 8th and 9th month. I am pretty small and I can remember in the beginning of my pregnancy holding a pair of maternity pants that my friend loaned me saying I will never be big enough to fit into these….and lo and behold around month 7 I started wearing them and they fit (this was after being in maternity jeans since month 5…)

She just doesn’t know – but isn’t that some of the fun and excitement of pregnancy?

  11. gianna Says:

Renee this is like the third thread, I have agreed with you, once again lol. People need to not take every word a celebrity says to heart. Feel and do what you want during your pregnancy, but if someone says they don’t like maternity clothes, so what. She is right with the way style is now, especially if your a thin woman to begin with and gain a healthy amount of weight, I know plenty of small ladies that wore their regular shirts/dress styles, just a bigger size of course. Halle is 41 and has wanted kids for many years, maybe even if she does feel tired or sick on certain days, it’s still a blessing to her because she is so grateful to be having a child. So that might be why she is talking about how she is loving this experience, maybe she is so overjoyed she doesn’t feel the need to complain about anything.

  12. Campbell Says:

i think Halle is expressing her absolute gratitude for being pregnant in a cute and honest way…. wish i could’ve worn designer duds *sigh*…. she’s earned it, so however she wishes to create her experience, good for her…. coz i don’t care who you are, somethings we all gotta go thru w/ pregnancy! lol… she looks lovely as usual, ‘cept not diggin the sweater, but the dress is great.

  13. J Says:

No worries Bostonmom, regarding Halle’s morning sickness and such I have a feeling she was less than thrilled being hunched over a toilet bowl. Now that that part has passed, it’s easy to forget how crappy one can feel while being nauseous.

Regarding the maternity clothes, maybe she hasn’t looked at all the new styles out there for new moms-to-be. She’s probably had a “helpful” mother or one day mother in law telling her all about the old styles. Some of those older styles make me wanna go for regular clothes as long as I can while pregnant..lol

  14. Jay Says:

Congrats to Halle. I agree with those who feel Halle has a right to express how she feels about HER pregnancy. It’s no secret that she has wanted a baby for such a long time and now that its happened she is enjoying every minute of it including morning sickness. At the end of the day, Halle knows what a blessing it is to have a child and she probably doesn’t see the need to complain about morning sickness. And as far as maternity clothes…big deal. Not everyone wants to wear maternity clothes…its HER choice if she doesn’t want to and she doesn’t have to like maternity clothes. Anyhoo, I’m happy for her and wish her a healthy pregnancy!!! Can’t wait to find out what she has.

  15. aaronisagirl Says:

I can say that, for me, any feeling I had that was temporarily uncomfortable during pregnancy was immediately canceled out by how grateful I was for being pregnant. I think that people choose to bitch about pregnancy far too frequently. It’s a totally amazing experience! I also think that you kind of set yourself up for feeling worse or having more physical problems if you dwell on things like morning sickness, etc. As with anything else body-wise, your attitude plays a big part in your physical wellbeing.
I have three kids now, (the most recent born on October 3rd, weighing in at 10 lbs 5 and half ounces), and I can honestly say that even at the end of my pregnancy last week, it wasn’t the physical stuff that bothered me as much as my own anxiety and impatience in getting to finally see him! I have always looked at pregnancy as a miraculous experience I am blessed to be able to participate in! Also, as someone who has been through a broken pelvis, two broken arms, a broken hand, shattered pelvis, etc. in a car accident, I can tell you that the average irritations of pregnancy are really small potatoes comparatively to what lots of people deal with every day of their lives. It’s a very, very small window of your life that so many really beautiful things happen in, I can see why she’s enjoying every minute!
