Halle Berry’s pregnancy cravings
During her Things We Lost in the Fire press junket, Halle Berry spoke to The Insider’s Lara Spencer. She shared with Lara that she has been experiencing cravings for salty things, especially pepperoncinis, which are mild and sweet Italian peppers that have a slight heat. They are commonly pickled and used in salads, sandwiches, antipasto, and as a garnish, but Halle seems to enjoy them solo.
She told Lara,
I just eat them out of the jar and then drink the juice!
About.com’s Pregnancy Guide Robin Elise Weiss tells us that the most common cravings among pregnant women are for sweet, salty, spicy, and bitter foods. Craving non-food items, also known as pica, is also common, though not healthy- women have been known to eat dirt, cigarette ashes, laundry starch, etc. and is usually a sign that your body is deficient in some crucial nutrients. If you crave these items, consult your doctor! Robin also told me that my pregnancy craving of ice was a form of pica and that I probably had a folic acid or iron deficiency.

Frozen peaches! Never eaten a frozen fruit in my life and I went through a 100 bags (at least!) while pregnant. Haven’t had one since! Back on the fresh stuff – very weird! Though I too craved spicy … jalapenos and red peppers were another staple.

Pepperoncinis are those hot peppers that are in the box in every Papa Johns pizza…
I like em stuffed with soft cheese, like Laughing Cow…
When I found out I was pregnant I had been dieting for 10 yrs. and the first thing I did was run out to Mickey Dees and get 2 Quarter Pounders w/cheese, Huge Fries, and a Vanilla Shake.
I craved chinese food, Ben and Jerrys, Eggs and Milk…
For newly Pregnant Women?
Please dont “eat for two”…
My Ob/Gyn nor my mom, nor anyone else told me anything about what to or not to eat during my pregnancy. I was obese well after my son was born and flabby beyond repair!
Find a good book on Pregnancy Nutrition and follow it…

French fries!!!

I had pica terribly with my 2nd pregnancy (now a mom of 3 boys). I ate ice like it was going out of style and even would lick clay — there was a time, too where I would stick my head in the laundry detergent box and inhale the smell of Tide because I craved it so bad, uck! lol Luckily I got over my embarrassment, told my doctor and he put me on iron supplements which cured me of my weird behavior, LOL

My biggest craving with my daughter was chicken paprikash. I could have eaten it for breakfast, lunch dinner-heated or unheated didn’t matter.
October 8th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Fresh fruit salad, chicken legs(drumsticks), and cheese with my twins. The cheese craving was bad, I would walk to the store, about a 1/2 mile, to buy slices or cubes of cheese and have them eaten by the time I got home. Then would go back later and do it again. I was eating cheese constantly! And the fruit salad HAD to be from the Deli or it wasn’t worth it eat.
Coca-cola, fried eggs on toast, and burgers with my youngest.
All 3 pregnancies(one lost)I craved the cream of broccoli soup from Denny’s in the first two trimesters and cheese enchiladas from Chevy’s in the first trimester.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
I craved mac and cheese with A1 sauce. And I also had to have a bowl of frosted flakes with a sliced banana almost every night before bed.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Orange sherbert. Not ice cream mind you, it had to be orange sherbert. Don’t know why. But I had to have it at least once a day when I was pregnant with my first (girl). It lasted throughout the pregnancy and stopped right after. With my second pregnancy (boy) it was spicy food…Mexican, Thai, Indian… didn’t matter as log as long as it was spicy. Very weird.

My husband is Hungarian and I loved the fresh sandwich rolls with butter and a spicy, not sweet fresh paprika pepper (like a bell pepper)with the spicy paprika salami piled high and it was SO spicy that my lips were on fire. I also could eat cabbage rolls until I popped….needless to say, my oldest likes all of her grandmothers food!
October 8th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
I craved breakfast foods: pancakes, scrambled eggs, grits, oj, sausage. My pancakes had to have gooey, yucky cherries on it. I would get physically ill every time I ate eggs and oj, but I wanted them almost everyday.
I also craved french fries and Taco Bell…something I had never eaten before I got pregnant.
Spaghetti, although like the eggs and oj, it made me sick. I did not give in to that craving. Steaks and baked potatoes also made me sick, but I always wanted them.
I also could not get enough of jalapenos. I would eat them by themselves, on nachos, by themselves, on hamburgers, by themselves.
I really wanted black licorice, especially after I found out I shouldn’t have it because it could cause contractions. As soon as my second was born, I sent my hubby to the store to buy me licorice. I ate the whole pack in about 5 minutes.
I didn’t overindulge during either of my pregnancies. I ate in moderation and tried to eat as healty as I could. I gained 26 pounds with my first and 23 pounds with my second.
October 8th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
I craved ORANGES something fierce with my first. Oranges for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And for snacks too. I would easily eat 3 a day. I would eat 4 clementines in one sitting.
For my second, I craved Mexican food.
October 8th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
With my daughter I was sick from 5 weeks until the day I had her and the only thing that tasted good was watermelon and popsicles. With my son I felt better and I craved Qdoba chicken burritos with lime rice and black beans like daily….. mmmmm
October 8th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
I’ve been craving Now and Later candies lately.
I also had a wierd craving for mint and chip ice cream, which I hadn’t had in about 10 years!
My healthier cravings include yogurt, fruit, and cheese.

I craved jalapenos like crazy with my last pregnancy. Id eat them on everything, out the jar, you name it. I never liked them before, now I love them!! funny how that works. I also craved peaches…out the can.
With my first I craved tuna and crakers alot. But mostly taco bell…. what is it with Taco Bell and being pregnant?? all three of my pregnancies I craved that like crazy!! That is the only time I ever eat that stuff. Ive heard that with alot of other women too, too funny! With my second child, I craved fast food like crazy. I went in phases with foods with all three kids tho. One day it was vegies, next fruit, next day fast food, or peppers of any sort etc… I still crave jalapeno peppers and Im not longer having any more babies, lol.

October 8th, 2007 at 10:31 pm

October 9th, 2007 at 12:39 am
I had three things that I craved. One was: bullet pops another was: milk with crushed saltine crackers and the last one was: mashed potatoes. I always took my vitamins and ate very healthy for the most part.

those are not peperoncini….
and they are red and not that big. I don’t think Halle (or anybody!) will be able to eat peperoncini solo…and then drink the juice, you can go on fire!
Peperoncini are HOT peppers, not sweet peppers
October 9th, 2007 at 4:54 am
Halle will proudly tell us about her hemmoroids and various other personal pregnancy issues later in the pregnancy.
She’s doing just what my pregnant pal is doing with her pregnancy. The very day she found out she was pregnant she turned into uber mom to be with exaggerating various issues women have during pregnancy.
Congrats to both for having babies, but relax already and just enjoy having a baby.

I craved watermelon and parma ham with my first pregnancy, not together though. The watermelon had to be very cold, cut into chunks and eaten with a fork. I felt very sick for most of that pregnancy, I think the sweet watery taste of the melon helped ease it a bit. With the parma ham it was the salty cured taste I wanted, and I also craved the slightly salty taste of sparkling mineral water in the later stages.
I didn’t want to drink it or anything, but with my second child I adored the smell of petrol and exhaust fumes, but the smell of boiling pasta made me want to heave. I also enjoyed dairy products like yoghurt, milk, icecream a lot more, and cucumber was a favourite but i didn’t really crave them with the same intensity as my first pregnancy. I did have a mild iron deficiency with my second pregnancy which was corrected through my diet.

I’m 8 months right now, and craving peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. They are SO good, too!
Vanessa, your comment cracked me up!

I’m 6 weeks into my first pregnancy, and when I’m not bent over the porcelin god, I cannot get enough Quarter Pounders from McDonald’s.. I gag at the thought of eating one and can barely stomach eating it, but it’s all I seem to want to eat!
And for a midnight snack, I’ve discovered the pure delight of dunking dill pickles into a class of milk (just like cookies and milk!)
October 9th, 2007 at 8:35 am
Sil they ARE Peperoncini, definitely.
Look, see:
https://www.giulianopeppers.com/cart/product.php?productid=16143

Ive never seen a Peperoncini in RED…

With my first pregnancy I craved Dairy Queen blizzards…especially the Mud Pie ones. I had my husband going out at all hours buying those for me. Just the concoction of chocolate, oreos and mocha made me over the moon. My ice cream cravings got to be so bad that he ended up buying me an electric ice cream maker. Also Chinese food. General Tso’s chicken. Our fridge was packed tight full of little white take out boxes for the last six months of my pregnancy. With my second pregnancy I had to have Taco Bell. Nacho Bell Grandes. With extra sour cream guacamole. I ate them like crazy. Talk about heartburn!
October 9th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I craved sunflower seeds, I always bought the biggest bag and ate them all day long everyday, and also ice. My daughter was born with a sunflower seed shaped birthmark on her back.
October 9th, 2007 at 11:45 am
I craved baloney sandwiches on white bread… ew I also had to have wasabi peas constantly

October 9th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
I had to chew ice! I had the urge once to eat chalk!
October 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I love these conversations about food cravings. They are universal and just plain fun. First pregnancy.. banana popsicles. Second pregnancy- alka seltzer (which my dr. quickly made me stop due to the massive salt intake) watermelon, and the best of all, i couln’t get enough of the smell of Pine-Sol. I washed every surface imaginable down constantly w/ the stuff, my dr. said “as long as you don’t injest it”, which i never did, nor did i desire to. Last pregnancy- Bacon, lettuce, tomatoe sandwiches.
October 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Me… I’m sure you’ve already researched the science of cravings…lol. i so want to just reach out and help you. hehe. you poor thing feeling sick before, during, AND after. so before injesting those yummy yet lethal QP’s, check out what’s actually in them…. that’s what your body needs… maybe you can get that chemical satisfaction from something or somethingS else. Altho, a QP is amazing when eating…. I laffed when i read this, i so relate. it is so funny and universal, your thinking “what is wrong with me?”… so funny and yet real. ok, maybe I NEED a QP now. Wait a minute, I’M NOT PREG.

Preesi:
“Ive never seen a Peperoncini in RED…
PeperoncinO are red, but PeperoncinI are green”
Peperoncini is the plural word for Peperoncino….so you have 1 peperoncino, 2 peperoncini
maybe in english you know those words different, but since they are italian words….
For the color, you are right, the most common here are red but there are also green…and maybe yellow, but I haven’t seen them yet
But they are not that big as in the pictures, look this info in wikipedia, there’s a pic of the peperoncini we know in italy, which are the real ones

I craved mango sorbet and pickled okra (together!) during my first pregnancy.
The second pregnancy was pineapple in the first trimester and boiled/steamed shrimp in the third.

I can remember it clearly. My cravings went in stages I craved pop eyes mashed potatoes with cajun gravy my whole pregnancy. Then there was the yopliat lemon custard and boston creme pie yougurt. and get this i know its gross now but the chocolate sugar free jello pudding with dill pickles dip in it, that was the greatest thing to me.
