Mariska Hargitay reads to children in N.Y.
Law and Order actress Mariska Hargitay, 43, took time out to treat children to a story during the New York Times‘ Great Children’s Read literary celebration in the Big Apple this weekend.
The New York Times partnered with children’s librarians from the three public library systems of New York City—Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Library—to establish the list of New York’s Top 20 All-Time Favorite Children’s Books. Celebrities from film, TV and Broadway read from the 20 books on the list live at the Great Children’s Read. Mariska read Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and Ruby Lu, Empress of Everything written by Lenore Look and illustrated by Anne Wilsdorf.
Mariska and husband, actor Peter Hermann, 40, are parents to son August Miklos Friedrich, 15 months.

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?”, “Jamberry”, “Hippos Go Berserk”, “Moo, Baa, La La La”, “Barnyard Dance” and “Silly Sally” are all VERY popular right now with my 18 month old. She also still adores Goodnight Moon which her Daddy has been reading to her since she was in utero…

When I was a child, I enjoyed anything written by Dr. Seuss, from “Cat in the Hat” to “Go Dog Go” to the classic “Green Eggs and Ham”. I remember my mom taking me and my sisters to the library and I’d always be so excited to bring one of his stories home with me. Now that I am a mommy myself (my kids are ages 10 and 6), I am thrilled to see that my kids have the same love of reading that I had as a child, and they even love the same Dr. Seuss books that I did!

It must be Goodnight Moon. We are at the point that my 2 yr old and 3 1/2 yr old help me read the story because they know what comes next. I have even tried to trick them by skipping a page and they know that something is not right and they call me on it! They absolutely love this book!

‘Possum Magic’ by Mem Fox, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak, any of the beautiful Graeme Base books like ‘Animalia’ or ‘The Waterhole’ and ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ by an author I can’t recall LOL.

my 4 year old daughter loves any version of cinderella. other favorites are kevin henkes’ “lilly” series, ian falconer’s “olivia” series, and jane o’connor’s “fancy nancy” series. these are stories about young feisty girls- my daughter can relate!
of course right now we’re reading lots of halloween books.
