Keri Russell says River is becoming ‘more manageable’
When asked recently how life is going with her 4 1/2-month-old son River, Keri Russell refreshingly replied — with a laugh — "it’s going." As all moms know, the first few months of first-time motherhood are tough, but as River enters the ‘promised land’ of 3 to 4-months often talked about by pediatricians as a time when babies begin to sleep more and cry less, the actress is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
He is just over three months and I feel there has been a shift and a cloud lifted, I mean we always liked him, but I think it’s a little easier. He is more manageable now.
Her honest take on motherhood carries over to her honest portrayal of pregnancy in the film Waitress. The former Felicity actress discovered she was pregnant shortly after filming for the movie had ended, and said she "loved" how Waitress "wasn’t precious about motherhood and pregnancy because somewhere women have been told it has to be beautiful and rosy and it’s anything but." Added Keri,
So I really felt that. Plus it was funny and really sad when it needed to be sad, but also beautiful.
River is the first child for Keri and her husband Shane Deary.

Did you find that your baby became more "manageable" at a certain point?
Note from Danielle: We know that Keri is breastfeeding and I know from personal experience and anecdotally from my favorite La Leche League leader Liz that breastfeeding gets SO much easier around the three month mark so maybe that’s part of why she says a cloud has been lifted. I also think as new parents, you kind of get into a groove or rhythm after a few months plus the baby needs to feed less often and starts sleeping longer periods throughout the night.

Right on, Keri! Finally, a celebrity admitting what all (or, at least most) moms know is true. It is a refreshing and welcome change from the “every moment is bliss” that we hear from most celebs. The first three months are hard!

It’s refreshing to hear a celeb admit that pregnancy is not all glamorous and great. I’ve been learning that one the hard way, because no one ever bothered to tell me how hard it really is!

i totally agree with keri. i loooove my 81/2 month but those early months were the hardest. i realized that before i had the baby i was totally selfish and motherhood is the least selfish thing to do it you do it right. now i wouldn’t change anything for the world but this by far so far is going to be an age to cherish!

It’s called the “fourth trimester” for a reason! Those first three months are so difficult. My little one had awful colic, which made it even worse. Funny how you can love and hate motherhood all at the time time in the beginning.

Wow,
I’m actually suprised by her comments, if I remember correctly she was pictured out and about a couple weeks after giving birth, looking very together. For me thats above and beyond ‘managing’ her new baby, but maybe her expectations were even more so.

Funny how Angelina’s “blob” comment drew such critisism….

“We always like him…”
I had a good chuckle at that. It’s gotta be tough, having a baby and loving but at the same time getting frustrated with various sleeping patterns.
