Johnny Depp speaks out about daughter’s illness

Tags: Dads, Ha ha, News, Quotes

Words can’t describe the fear that gripped Johnny Depp last spring when his 8-year-old daughter Lily-Rose fell ill with a mystery illness, reportedly an E. coli infection, Johnny recently told Entertainment Weekly

To say it was the darkest moment, that’s nothing. It doesn’t come close to describing it. Words are so small.

Fortunately, Lily-Rose — who was 7 at the time — has completely recovered with "no lasting" effects from the illness according to Johnny.

Now every single millisecond is a mini-celebration, man. Every time we get to breathe in and exhale is a huge victory. She pulled through beautifully, perfectly.

Lily-Rose and her brother Jack, 5, delight in watching their dad on the big screen, even if he doesn’t enjoy it himself.  In fact, Johnny has never seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

After Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, [my family] went to see it. I hadn’t seen it. I was waiting at home, and they came back. And my daughter came up and went,  ‘You’re really weird.’ And I knew then, ‘Okay. I’m okay. I’m all right.’

That his character of Captain Jack Sparrow in the film series Pirates of the Caribbean has been memorialized at Disneyland also makes Johnny self-conscious.

The idea of my character being put into the ride forever and ever, and that my grandchildren will go there and see that — that’ll spin you out. That was a hard one to deal with.

Lily-Rose and Jack are the children of Johnny and his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis

  1. Amanda Says:

I love Johnny Depp. He seems so normal and down to earth in all his interviews.

  2. Mercedes Says:

I wanted to say the same thing as Amanda. He just seems such a cool guy. So cool that some people classify him as weird. I think it’s just weird to find someone like him in the self-absorbed Hollywood world.

  3. Heather Says:

I too love Johnny Depp. I think it’s so great he’s such a doting dad; you can tell his kids are his world. And he’s one of the most talented actors ever, I’m really surprised he’s never won an Oscar.

  4. Stef Says:

In regards to the linked article:

I had a friend who got e coli this past summer–got it from the lettuce on his Taco Bell burrito.

Needless to say, I’ve yet to pluck up the courage to eat there.

  5. Natasha Says:

Does anyone have any quotes of him talking about his son? He seems to always be talking about his daughter but never just Jack.

  6. Victoria Says:

I agree with Amanda; He’s such a real, genuine person, apart from all the other Hollywood smucks we hear about. I think it’s great that in all of his interviews it’s so hard to tell that he’s a celebrity. Great actor, my favorite along with Heath Ledger. <33

  7. Joan Says:

I would realy love to meet Johnny. He is a very sex man in the world even if he don’t show any skin.
