Nancy Grace welcomes twins John David and Lucy Elizabeth
CNN anchorwoman and lawyer Nancy Grace, 48, and her husband David Linch welcomed their first children, boy/girl twins, on Sunday, November 4th. Son John David, who was named for his father David and John the Revelator, weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce, and daughter Lucy Elizabeth, who was named for Nancy’s mother Elizabeth and her grandmother Lucy, weighed 2 pounds, 15 ounces. The babies were born by c-section, with John delivered first at 1:54 pm, and Lucy close behind at 1:55 pm. Dad David told People,
The babies are doing fine. She’s long and lean, and he’s long and not as lean. Our little girl is doing just as well as her brother despite her weight –- and mom is doing great.
The twins, who were due in this month according to what Nancy has said on her show (although media outlets report differently), were delivered early due to Nancy developing a pulmonary edema during her pregnancy. Pulmonary edema causes fluid to build or swelling in the lungs. Nancy’s rep released the following statement,
Her physician determined it would be best for Nancy, and for the twins, to deliver them [on Sunday]. Lucy Elizabeth, John David, and their proud parents are now resting comfortably. The babies will be in the hospital for awhile, and Nancy should be leaving the hospital in a few days.
Nancy announced the pregnancy in June, and the sexes of the babies in September.

Aww… I hope that all goes well with the babies. That’s a pretty big discrepancy in weights I hope that both babies are healthy and are able to come home soon.

From their weights I think there may have been more going on. He was quite big for being 30 weeks and she was small.

For being two months early those are actually pretty nice weights for preemie twins!! But I can’t believe the difference from the boy’s weight to the girl’s weight!My twin nephews were born 3 months premature and both weighed a little over 1 lb. I hope the twins and Nancy are doing well! Congrats to the family!

I’m a little confused … June post indicated she was due in January 2008 ; September post, it was 8 November 2007 (”in 2 months”) … Anyway congratulations and love the traditional names !!

Candice, I thought the same thing. My husband was a twin, but they didn’t know it until he was born (it was the early 60s). He was a wopping 10 pounds, but the other baby, who was still born, was very small.

They’re called discordant twins. Twin-to-twin transfusion occurs only in twins sharing a placenta (identical twins). Discordant twins are not uncommon, though there is a large difference between these twins, and could be one of a number of reasons why the twins were born early. Quite frequently, after 30 weeks obstetricians will electively deliver the twins to better care for the smaller twin, who could be adversely affected by continuing the pregnancy.
Congratulations to the new mommy and daddy! I’m sure they’ll be bringing home both their healthy babies in a month or so.

In many cases the smaller twin actually fairs better than the larger twin because it is used to having to “fight” in utero for nutrition and such.

Congrats to Nancy and her hubby!! I had a premature baby in May. He weighed 4lbs 1 oz but he was fine. He was one month early. John would have being a huge baby boy but Lucy will be ok. My son weighed 15 lbs at 41/2 mths. Nancy will soon need help to carry Lucy around. All the best!!

Congratulations Nancy and David! I’m 58 & would still be having babies if I could! I hope you really enjoy your twins! I am also a twin. My twin brother is 6′5 and I am 5′4! He was born 12 minutes before I was. We are extremely close and really have the twin connection. I really hope your twins have the same connection. Most twins I see are usually the same sex. Being a boy and girl is unique! I feel lucky and proud to have a twin brother! A day doesn’t go by that we don’t talk on the phone! Good luck and I hope you really enjoy your babies! I am so glad they are doing well. It is always tough to deliver early. Young or old! I lost twin girls at 6 mo. Due to a placenta abruption. Sad but, we went on to have a great baby boy a couple of years later. Sadder yet. God said his work here was finished and took him in a car accident 3 years ago. He loved little children and I am sure he watches over them all when he is not jumping his bike or skate boarding. TJ would have been 20 this month. Take care Nancy…you did it! KC

I’am very proud for nancy and husband if you have faith in god all thing are possible. Iam 35years old and married for the second time whith two other kids,16,14 god blessed me and my new husband with a baby girl.summer faith on july 1,2007 a day after my mother’s birthday who pass away in 1992. I wanted her name to be special.mark and I met in summer of july 2006,married in janury of 2007mark has four other kids .19′16′15′13. So I guess what Iam trying to say is thank god for all of your childern know matter how old you are. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY

congrats Nancy and John. I myself am the proud mother of fraternal twins, born a minute apart as well. Erika and Enrique were born 2-2-04. Erika weighed 6 pounds and Enrique weighed 3 pounds 4 ounces. My little fella was hospitalized the first 3 weeks of his precious life and my erika was well enoug to leave after 3 days. Our God watched over my Enrique and was on his way home after he reached 5 pounds. They will be 4 yrs old in February and already to start school in 2008. I cant believe how time has passed we are inseperable. Nancy enjoy every minute, they grow like weeds, I find it amazing how they sneeze, hiccup and well… you know what i mean, a second apart. Its amazing. God Bless and always take time for yourself, no one else will!!!Hold tight its definiteley a journey!!LOL

Nancy, I to had blood clots. You need to watch for anything that doesn’t seem right with your body in the next few years. I had blood clots that appeared later. We had no idea what caused them. I was glad I had a doctor that told me to watch my body. It was years before it happened again. It appeared in my leg. There all different kinds of blood thinner and they work. I’m proof of that. My prayers are with you and David and your beautiful babies. Take care of yourself and rest while you can. We miss you. Shirley

I heard Nancy just got to come home and her twins should be home by Christmas. Hope it’s soon. With the birth of your children you will feel a love you never knew existed before. Best Wishes to them and the babies. Premature births can be a lot to deal with but its amazing the medical advances they have made. I am wondering if the baby girl had IUGR. My son (28weeks) was smaller than his brother and sister not by that much but enough where he had a harder time. Eventually the gap closes and he looks the same and his siblings. He can pack away the food too! Hope Nancy hangs in there…things will settle soon and they really grow once they get home!!! She is blessed with the husband and family she wanted!
